I don't know if I am allowed to post this here but here goes. Did anyone see the programme on ITV on Sunday evening with Shane Ritchie and Pauline Collins. I think it was called "Things we did on Holiday".
It all took place in Malta and although i could recognise the locations of most of the action, I wonder if anyone could hazard a guess as to where the villa the family were staying in was situated.
I think I spotted one mistake in continuity. The family were visiting the shrine at T'a Pinu on Gozo and a Malta bus (ie orange livery instead of grey/red) went past. Am I sad or what???
I don't know whether the programme will do much to increase the tourist trade to Malta as there was a section about criminal activity and in the end on of the family floats out to sea to die!!!
Yes I watched it too. A great opportunity miised by 'Brand Malta' to have advertisements of Malta during the break
Well spotted! We also noticed that there was a yellow Maltese bus on Gozo and their buses are actually grey and red as you indicated. We are therefore as sad as you so you're not on your own!!
I also thought that this programme didn't do Malta any favours and in fact I felt with the violent scenes, especially at the festa, it could possibly put folks off going there. Mind you I guess they have to spice these productions up so as not to make them too drab and boring to watch!
As all of us Maltaphiles know only too well Malta's the happiest place on Earth and I hope there are plans to have future 'nicer' programmes screened in these Islands because we really enjoyed doing 'background spotting',

Hi all I think we must be sad aswell, although we didn't watch it through we recorded it and spotted the bus.
I read (and enjoyed) the book a few years ago, so I was quite excited to see this - until I watched it, that is All the best bits were gone from the book, and some of the storyline was changed, leaving a very poor story, although I thought Pauline Collins et al did a sterling job portraying their characters. Didn't do Malta any favours, either.
Also noticed Coastline Hotel in the background at one point.
On the theme of Malta buses. Parts of the film Munich (about the terror attack at the Olympics in 72) were filmed in Malta. Bugibba seafront was used as middle eastern sea front although those who know could still recognise the place and lo and behold in the background is an orange malta bus!!!
I'm getting worried cause I think Maltese buses are mainly yellow not orange although I think some do have a bit of orange colouring down the side. We also spotted the flags outside The Coastline in one scene. We stayed there in August,

i also spotted the coastline and only watched the prog to spot familiar places but a lot of the time it seemed to be filmed in open countryside. as for a missed opportunty for encouraging tourists to visit, one of the reasons i love Malta is because it is relatively unspoilt by the brit/yob tourist like spain suffers from, can you imagine if Malta became overrun by topless beerbellied union jack wearing foulmouthed yobbish drunken brits? oh god no! best keep it a beautiful unspoilt secret between us malta lovers eh?
just like to say that if anybody wishes to see very short videos of malta, i filmed plenty whilst holidaying there and set it to music, visit youtube.com and search for petegoldinamerc then look at my videos. i would post a link but i dont think its allowed. if you like what you see then spread the word, if you dont like it, tell me. either way i would apreciate comments.
Excellent bit of footage and I reckon I scored 10/10 for recognising the places! I also agree with keeping the yob culture out of Malta - I don't think these type feel at home there anyway, and generally one visit is about all they can put up with, I'm glad to say.
Back to the program - I certainly agree with folks who said it was a missed opportunity to 'sell' Malta as a holiday destination and as Pete said even during the filming much of it was done with countryside scenes, which could have been anywhere though I reckon even some of those places were familiar to me. What really gets to me is that although the actors used are brilliant, they seemed to emulate the typical knotted hankerchief brigade and I'd hate people thinking that's me on hols in Malta, since I'm far too posh to be like that!!

Hi Trev, by heck it's good to see you back mate. I to am very posh, in fact before meeting me Mrs Sliema2 had never tried HP sauce on her traditinal sunday roast and neither had she been treated to an all you can eat for 5 quid indian sunday buffet, and she had most certainly never spent an evening in the vault of my local supping best bitter and playing darts, oh yes I think have introduced her to true culture .
also agree with keeping the yob culture out of Malta - I don't think these type feel at home there anyway
if we wanted to holiday amongst those low life types we would go to spain or even worse blackpool mega yuk

My humblest apologies, and sorry if I have offended anyone out there with my comments agreeing with others about yob culture.

Kath at Admin, how I agree with you certain people on this Malta site it is just their opinion that counts and anybody who disagrees are verbally insulted everybody has a right to an opinion be it good or bad but do not expect everybody to agree with you, and lets face it the site is for your options and experience you speak your mind without trying to influence other people about where to holiday, up express your experience but so many Malta lovers take regretable remarrks personnally this site is not for that.
I certainly don't intend to be to be rude to anybody particularly and all I ever do is voice my honest opinions. for better or for worse. I also like to be a bit tongue in cheek about what I say but I also like to give good sound advice from my experiences of holidaying so many times in these magnificent Islands, so that whenever I can give a valid opinion, folks going on hols to Malta get first hand info on what to expect, hopefully don't waste time or money and have a really wonderful time!
In my opinion I think this thread is getting off topic now,
