wellforst of all congrats your going to a lovely place, ill be there myself in less than four weeks. Where r u staying? Anyway since the change i wouldnt worry about any price icnreases in my opinion some things have even gone down. I certainly wouldnt worry about prices going up, not in kefalos anyway ive been there twice since euros and found no differences for the worst.

Sure you will have a great time in Kefalos - we have been going now for seven years and love the place, always go around Sept - October time when it is peaceful but still fantastic weather. The beaches just outside of the resort are lovely - you can get a water taxi from the front harbour road in Kef which will take you to the better beaches such as Markos, Magic, Sunny and Paradise (busy). Nothing wrong with the beaches themselves in Kefalos, just personal preference to go a bit further affield.
Price wise - not a great deal of change, things tended to get rounded off to nearest Euro (usually upwards!!) but Kefalos tavernas do not tend to rip you off so you should be fine
Enjoy your stay - we go 15th Sept - not that I am counting you understand!!! If you want any further information you can PM me and I will answer where I can

Hi again Sandie, when are you going? Crysoula has a lvoelypool I had a swim there last time i was there and the staff at the pool eatery/bar were lovely and friendly.

As for transport, go to:

http://www.hippocrates.gr/index_main.htm

if you click on transportation down the left had menu it takes you to a small drop down menu in the top right of the screen, click this and select LOCAL BUS and it takes you to a full timetable of the bus services serving Kefalos and everywhere else. these times have not changed in a few years and its only about 2 euros to kos town.

hope u have a nice time, we take off at 9pm from Manchester so i reckon thats......
3 weeks, 1 day, 23 hours and 37 minutes till take off hahahah (over excited)

Thanks Sallybear for the info, just had a quick look at that website and the public transport seemed ok pretty standard for most islands of that size. We are flying out on Wednesday morning btw so not long now :D

Price are still OK in Kefalos.
Chrysoula has a lovely pool not too sure about the rooms, but having stayed in most rooms in Kefalos they are all basically the same, just in different location. These are situated at the begining of Kefalos but not too far to walk into the main area...

Enjoy your stay, this will be our 17th visit and we fly out on Wednesday and I'm just as excited now as I was on our first vist.

I have been to Kefalos twice now and will be going in 23,700 minutes or just over two weeks (!!). I went on loads of day trips etc when I went to Kefalonia but have never been to any in Kos, not arranged ones that is. I take the bus to Kos town and the water taxi to paradise but was wondering about trips to Kalymnos, or Greek Nights or something like that. I found the web site of the tour place near the harbour once but have lost it now. I was thinking of going up to Zia for the sunset taverna thing but it's on the Sunday and thats our first night really so don't want to go anywhere.

Any advice appreciated[/i]

id just go on spec and shop around for the best deal. Local ppl gerally cheaper than reps and know more about the places they're taking you!
:D

yeah ive never been one to buy from reps, not that theres anything wrong but mostly because I feel if i am staying somewhere its almost more polite to use the local excursion facilities.

I really wanted to go horse riding with my daughter who is a very experienced rider but they will only lead her round on a pony as she is not 8 years old, its a shame because they offer a lovely choice of 1,2, or 3 hour treks. Maybe next year when shes 7 i can persuade them.

The place you are thinking of is Asklipios Tours. http://www.asklipiostours.com

We have used them on a number of occasions and always found them helpful and cheaper than the reps. They cover trips to Kalymnos, Nissyros, Turkey, Kos by Night, Kos by Day, Sunset in Zia, Greek Night and even a Hydrofoil trip over to Rhodes. I don't have up to date prices, but June of last year they were as follows;
Kalymnos Monday 25 Euro.

Rhodes Monday 45 euro.

Greek Night Sunday 25 Euro.

Turkey Tuesday & Friday 35 Euro + 9 Euro port tax.

Sunset in Zia Wednesday 10 Euro.

Kos by Night Friday 10 Euro.

Kos Town (day time) Tues. Thurs. & Friday 7 Euro.

Nissyros Tues. Thurs. Friday & Sat. 16 Euro + 7 Euro for bus to the volcano.

Water Park Sunday 20 Euro.

Pop along and speak to Joyce, but have look at the web sight as they were offering a 10% discount for booking on-line via e-mail.
Say hi to Joyce from me if you see her.
Hope this helps.

Andy.

I am intending to go to Kos town at the end of September. Can anyone recommend any apartments that are about a 15-20 minute from the town centre?

You could try Kallys, they are about 5 minutes from the harbour side. We had a great holiday last October, well worth the money.

Myself and a friend are hoping to go to the island of Kos in early October. We would ideally like the beach within walking distance, as bars shops and restaurants too. Kos Town seems to get a good write up, so have decided there though havn't booked anything yet. I would like to hire a car to see the rest of the island, but I am unfortunately not old enough to hire a car, my friend, however is, but is very reluctant about it. Can anyone give him reassurance that its really not that bad, and is the only way we will get to see the island.

Neither of us have ever been to Greece or it's islands. Does anyone have any advice for us?

What is Kos Town like?
Any reccomended day trips?

Hi susie1984 and welcome to HT!

As neither of you have been to Greece or the Greek Islands before you may find some of the information in the "sticky" topic at the top of this forum "Greece Insider Guide" of interest.

Hi, been to Kos Town a few years back.Enjoyed it very much.Stayed on one of the main roads coming into the resort centre itself. Can't remember the name but was a bit grotty, a 2 star property! That's why I tend to find and book 3 stars and above in the Greek islands and so far that's worked well after staying in Kos Town.I also try and read up on potential hotels/apartments in sites like this one and also http://www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk
Kos Town is very good for nightlife, it has a a couple of Bar streets and they do fill up your glasses.I was the most drunk I've ever been here so watch those measures!
Kos Town is close to both Psalidi and Lambi, both have good beaches.Kos Town has a fair few ruins both inside the town and on the Asclepion Hill, alledgedly the site of the first ever hospital....the views are great from the top, a bus will get you there.
You can go across to Turkey for the day and visit Bodrum.
You'll have a great time!

Kos Town is full of Bars, Restaurants, shops. If youre idea of a night out is a lesiurely meal ( standards vary as does the price ) and a few drinks then Kos Town will be fine. I was there last month if you want peace and quiet during your meal you would need to look at restaurants in the Old Town or down on the beach towards Psalidi. Most of the restaurants are on the road which with the amount of cars and Scooters wizzing past hardly makes it peaceful.

Bar Street is lively but smaller than you might imagine ( certainly wouldnt put it in the catergory of Magalluf or San Antonio Ibiza ), there are also some popular beach bars over in the Lambi area.

With regards to driving a car abroad. Anywhere abroad for the first time is nerve wracking. Kos Town with the scooters and bikes and junctions will also be a bit daunting the first time, but once out of town it becomes much easier and getting to the other resorts and round the island is very easy. My advice do it because you get to see so much more when you drive abroad just take it nice and slowly at first and dont worry about impatient people behind you, slow down at all junctions until you get used to rights of way etc. Once you have driven for 10-15 minutes the confidence comes and you quickly get used to driving on the other side.

As I say I have just come back from Kos Town ( stayed up towards Psalidi ) so any questions do ask.

Kind Regards
Stewart

wondering if anyone could give me some information on a nice place to stay near Kardamena, looking to go away with a couple of mates in late sept and we want somewhere that is nice and lively with plenty of bars...but at the end of the day we're not 18 and dont want some club 18-30 hotel where you are woken up by a bucket of water being hurled over your head!!

by the way.. susie.. i went to Bodrum/gumbet this year in the summer and id definatly advise a trip over there or even to go and stay there becuase its a great place :D

Hi Stewart, I have been waiting on you coming back to give a report on your holiday. I am off to Psalidi on 29th September, staying in The Panorama Hotel'. Can you give a quick report on your weather, any trips you took, what you did and any do's and don'ts and recommendation. Thanks in advance.
