Kos town I would think would be ideal both for the beach and the bars, but you do not have to book accomodation in advance just buy the flight ticket. That way you can use the greek ferry system to island hop to say Nissyros, Kalymnos, Patmos etc. ( the greek ferries are much cheaper than excursion boats! ).

You can easily travel around Kos using the bus service which is fairly comprehensive, any place you fancy just look for rooms for rent/small hotel places that are in all the resorts and islands.

ATM
There are 2 ATm's in Kefalos. 1 in the village and one at the other end of the resort to where you are staying.
You are best to take too much rather than depend on the ATM's in Kefalos.

Your hotel is well situated to everything.....

Just returned from Kos and did the Turkey Tuesday trip on market day.We paid 25 euros for two on the Themis one of many boats that due the crossing.Paid 1 euro to enter Turkey. The market is a bit of a let down just a big shed selling fake tracksuits, tee shirts sweat shirts etc.More enjoyable is the walk around the town.
Kokalakis havnt stayed there but its right on the beach, the swimming pool is placed out the front as apposed to the rear,in an elevated position.

Just returned had a brill time weather warm high 70s, but have had a stiff breeze the last couple of days, which didnt help the scrub fire that broke out early Thursday morning above Kardemena. Will do a fuller report.BJ

Beejay, I am off to Kos for the first time in 2 weeks. Do you have any pointers you could give me, or any dos or donts? TIA Was the weather OK?

Dobbo - As others have said Kokalakis is really ideally located being right in the centre of the resort. Also understand that they have had a recent refurbishment.

:wave Hi there, are there shops in Kos where you can buy english ciggies or are you best getting them at the airport on the way home (can you get them at the airport?) What kind of prices are they? Hope someone can help

Plenty of shops to get ciggies in Kos. All the supermarkets sell them, prices run from €25 to €27 depending on what brand you are looking for.
Prices at the airport are generally the same as in the resorts.

Andy.

As stated above you can buy them in all the supermarkets and at the air port. Try also some of the alcohol shop as they were doing deals if you purchased in excess of 1000, but they will charge if you use plastic, so pay by cash or cheque.

when we went to turkey this year we bought 2 x 1 litre bottles of smirnoff blue label (the strong good stuff) vodka for £20.. basically cos the local vodka isnt that great (in turkey and greece). This price for smirnoff from the airport was much cheaper than the price for smirnoff in resort (and that wasnt even the blue labell stuff).

Whilst i have been to other greek islands before i havent been to Kos and i was wondering if anyone who has could tell me if it would be a good idea to get this deal from the airport again or is the branded vodka much cheaper in Kos?! :D

Turkey is outside the EC so duty free can apply.

On Kos the price for Vodka either cheap or international brand is pretty much the same at the airport as in the supermarket. This goes for other drinks and cigarettes.

Kind Regards

cheers stu but i realise about the EU situation.. the deal that i got was for if you were travelling to the EU or outside it so i will still be able to get it if i want it when i go to greece

Ok But I wll say again the price for Vodka at Kos airport is pretty much the same as in Kos supermarkets.
