Thanks! It will be very useful come October....
i went to kos town and loved it. its very cosmopolitan and bar street rules.
we went to karademena for the day and hated it. it was like three streets. not very big compared to kos town. you would be cheaper going to blackpool for a holiday than karademena because its the same.
if you want culture but lots of fun than pick kos town.
I have eventuallly found an online version of the paper map of kos Town here: http://www.kosinfo.gr/map.asp?id=1, each section can be enlarged.
It is still rather limiting, regards finding places etc , but better than none.
Cheers

the best bit about Kos town is just getting lost and walking around, i say throw away your map and get walking. I found some of the most amazing things in Kos town while totally and utterly lost, and I got back ok in the end
Hi jh4x, thanks for the link..I took a look at it but well probably also do as sallybear suggests and just walk round anyway! Did the same in Rhodes Town....I know I am fairly close to the action but not stayed or explored where I will be staying in October the last time I went, just know it's close to the new Marina.
basically in Kos Town just get your bearings towards the water, once you have them you can get lost, find your way back to the waterfront and you can walk along to the bars and shops ets, people are exceptionally friendly and helpful in Kos so just get lost its the best, if you like fish by the way let me know theres a fantastic place but you could blink and miss it if you like freshly grilled sardines with tomatoes and fresh red onions and nice wine let me know ill scan in a piccie of the place you can find ti from that no problem
Hi sallybear, nope, we aren't fish lovers unfortunately, well I love prawns but that's about it!!!! I'm sure I had a lovely meal in Kos on the Lambi side and it was right on the beach, think it may have been an Italian restaurant but that's about it as far as I remember...I'll have fun trying to find it again I'm sure but like you say that's half the fun!
Enjoy Kos town and Kos, it is a wonderful island with some of the friendliest people I've ever met.
Andy.
you must visit the castle the views are great, also the shopping is great, sallybear was right once you determine where the sea is you cant get lost, also lookout for the royal yaught in the harbour as they regualy visit the island, hireing cycles was the best mode of transport and at £2 a day for a decent mounting bike was a bargain, and if you get a puncture just ask anyone in a shop or bar to ring the number on the bike and they come to you while you have a well earned break.happy holidaying.
just a link for anybody wanting some info on Kos this is a forum i went on often to look up about my holiday
Ver handy..will keep looking at it after July....need to keep mydslef updated for Poland holiday first!
Thanks for all your advice. We decided in the end that it could well be too hot in July. Ah well, maybe next June we'll make it to Greece
My daughters & i took my 5 yr old grandson to Kefalos in Kos last August. We loved it so much, I went back in September/October with my friend.
Hi cpm. Where have you decided to holiday this year? We have taken our boy to Greece since he was 6 months old (he's 10 now) and have never really found the weather a problem (plenty of drinks, shade, suntan cream etc). We have been in August for the last few years due to school holidays and it is hot and more expensive, so if you can get away with going out of school holidays I would. Never been to Kos but would recommend somewhere like Kefalonia for your first visit to Greece - it's beautiful. If you want any info on Kefalonia just ask and I'm sure there will be loads of threads on Kefalonia on this site. Gail
My vote is kardamena. We stayed at KoolPool apts and that was fab. Nice all round place plenty for u guys and loads of single women too id bet. Kos Town was nice but if its a lads holiday I would plump for Kardamena.
We are going to the Alice Springs hotel/apt in Kos Town next month (July 2005), has anyone been?
It's our first time to Kos so any suggestion on beaches, bars , restaurants and places to visit, also is the day trip to Turkey worth while.

Ferry to Rhodes was a good trip. Left at around 10-10.30am and took about 2 hrs 45 mins each way. This means you get nearly 5 hours in Rhodes before the boat leaves at 6pm. Cost about 35 Euros each (return) and was a nice trip. Ferry was very comfortable with nice food, TV rooms, portable DVD's etc. May be a lot busier when you go, I went end of May.
Its a very good site
