Hi Deham,
I'm worried now!
Just read your post and checked our booking. We booked in Feb this year for next March with First Choice and the luggage allowance states 25kg.
Will check on line and if it's different I will be a bit upset and contacting them.
Thanks for the warning.

I've emailed them so I will update you when (or if! ) :que I get a reply.
According to my booking invoice the tel. no. for customer services is 0871 200 7799.

I noticed this mistake when I searched on the F.C. website a few months ago. It stated 25kgs for Star Class and only 23kgs for Star Class Premier. As I had previously travelled with them in Star Class Premier I knew the 23kgs was correct, but I thought I would email them to check their luggage allowances. They replied they had an error on their website and Star Class was only 20kgs with 5 kgs hand luggage. The website was corrected shortly afterwards.

not to be awful to you all, but think your self lucky,(granted our tickets havent arived yet, there may be a cange) but we have been told we can only take 15kg and 5kg hand,luggage....this is with first choice..

The allowance is definitely 20kg + 5kg hand baggage for standard fare.If you have excess they charge you per kilo.
We flew with them a few weeks ago.

If you go onto the F.C. website and select a hotel you are given the option to reduce your luggage to 15 kgs for a £20 reduction in the holiday, otherwise you have 20 kgs. I feel that for £20 reduction, it isn't worth it as we quite often bring back loads of presents and 15 kgs just isn't enough of an allowance.

Got our FC flight tickets yesterday. It states 20kg

I am pretty sure Thomsons allowance is 25kg (inc hand luggage) First Choice is 20kg (inc hand luggage) although F/C did say you can increase your allowance for a ridiculous fee per kg.....Keith

but on the first choice web site it states this...

The baggage allowance on board our airline for checked-in luggage is 20kg (44lbs) for each person.
If you are going on a Skytours or saver holiday the allowance is 15kg (33Ibs).
For Premier and Premium holidays the allowance is 23kg (50.6Ibs).
No single item of luggage may exceed 23kg (50.6Ibs).
hope it helps... :)

I had a great big dispute with First Choice re their baggage allowance. I first flagged this up in August on this website. When I queried with FC that my original booking had stated 25kg, then when I upgraded to premier my confirmation stated 30kg and not the 23kg which now showed on my online booking page, they implied that I was lying!

It took from August until mid-October for FC to admit they had changed the rules, although at the time of writing to them their T&C backed up my position. They have now agreed to honour the 30kg with 5kg each hand luggage but we cannot put more than 23kg in each bag.

I have been issued with a letter confirming the extra luggage allowance.

Be prepared for around 6-8 weeks before you receive any form of confirmation re your correspondence and best of luck with it.

we are booked with First Choice and I thought it was 20kg + 5 kg hand luggage, have looked on all the holiday gumph and can't find the allowance anywhere. Am glad this thread was put on here, am i right in saying the above and we are in the normal class didn't pay for premier. :que

Generally the luggage allowance is 20kg plus 5kg hand luggage which equates to 25kg IN TOTAL.
Read the fine print!
Last year I went Olympic with Monarch Premium and got 30kg plus 5kg hand luggage.
This year I was unable to get Monarch Premium, even booking in October for Jan/feb.
I was offered 15kg and had to pay to get the "expected" 20kg. I have since found out that Monarch DO NOT allow any Charitable luggage allowance , although Firstchoice/Thomas Cook/Thomsons/Airtours etc do as long as it is a registered British Charity.
It Ironic that they will do you for luggage been overweight.. but no-one as yet has said sorry you are 50Kg overweight.

If you have any written documentation stating your luggage allowance, then by Law the holiday companies have to comply. I am sure somewhere in the Credit Consumer act or whatever, that if a company publishes a price that later turns out to be incorrect, then they are still legally bound to fufill that price, even though it may be incorrect.
Someone I worked with followed this law through and got lots of things at silly prices because they had been published incorrect on the companies websites.
Its just like the free flight debacle many years ago, If a company publishes it then they have to honour it.

If in doubt go to WATCHDOG. Check Internet forums and you will find out that they will have to honour your original booking.

I see that Firstchoice used to offer 30kg for premium, but now its only 23kg. Hardly worth the upgrade money.

That's just it Lisa, I did read the fine print, even after they called me a liar and it backed me up. I copied the 'fine print' along with all of my documentation, and they have had to honour the baggage allowance which was sold.

Part of the sales 'spill' to the upgrade was that you were allowed 30kg HOLD luggage. Previous to our upgrading we had booked in November 07 for this Christmas, at the time of booking our hold luggage was quoted as 25kg. FC at no time contacted us to inform us of the change in hold luggage allowance, it was only because I had looked at my booking on line that I noticed. When ours had been taken down from 30kg to 23kg, my parents, who travel with us without the upgrade, still read 25kg - so at that point in time I was paying for the upgrade and getting a lower hold luggage allowance!

Anyhow, for me it has worked out fine as they have agreed to honour the original booking, and most probably we won't need that amount of luggage - but it was the principle. I would advise Denham to follow this through, if they have changed the allowance then they should have the decency to inform their customers and offer a discount due to that fact.

Hi Miccie, thanks for your help. As you have said with first choice bookings online it has allways stated 20kg allowance , which has allways been 20kgs hold luggage + 5kg hand baggage, or 30kg, again as hold luggage + 5kgs hand baggage. If is their error they should honour the allowance stated on your confirmation. Glad you won, as its the principle. :cheers When you get your tickets will it state 30kgs, is this why they have sent you a letter of proof. Also did you phone them to chase the matter up, or did you wait for them to write back to you. :cheers Denham
