Hey all - We only take my son's beach towel, for id when all you can see are the hotel's blue towels! The sunbed situation wasn't bad at all when we went in June. We don't get up early on holiday and hubs refuses to get up at the crack of dawn to get a sunbed, but we always managed to get a couple together, or sometimes moved a couple together, any time of the day. We only usually get two sunbeds for the four of us as the kids are mostly in and out of the pool, but I can't really expect my daughter to share one this year (not at 5ft 9!). I think it was a bit more difficult to get parasols last year, but there was a heatwave and even I needed to sit in the shade.

darreng - The kids clubs are really good - there's a lot of info on them a couple of pages back on this thread. As fas I heard (and remember), all the entertainers had good English (I think a couple of them were English!).

I didn't get to see all of Children's Paradise (not round the big slides anyway ;) ) - there are lots of separate pools with slides, and some pools that run into eachother with slides or waterfalls, rope bridges, a little sandy beach area and pool with slides and toys for the tinies, mini footie pitch and park/play area with swings slides etc.

Lucky macjohnson going on Friday - Have a great hol and let us know what you thought of it when you get back! :cheers

Hi i'm absolutely furious, I have e mailed Lykia a couple of times over the last couple of weeks to confirm our room type and request a top floor, as I havn't receved any reply I have decided to ring Lykia and the lady I spoke to there has told me we have the catergory 4 family room with one bathroom when we should have the interconnecting family rooms with two bathrooms. Some of you may remember my on going battle with the many phone calls back and forth to the tour op to try and get this confirmed then how relieved I was to be told by the TO that we had the family room with 2 bathrooms and it was a 'unit 6' which we presumed to be a cat 6 room so we were well happy with this, now I am more annoyed to think we have paid the extra for the larger interconnecting rooms with the 2 bathrooms (approx £400 more) and are going to end up with the cheaper family room. The lady at Lykia said there is nothing they can do to change this as they are completely fully booked, she kept on repeating "we are full". I have got straight on the phone to XL our Tour op and I am waiting for them to ring me back when they have sorted it out, but basically I can't see what they can do to change the room type now if lykia are full the 2 weeks we are there.

ellie-meg and bridd you may well remember that I have always felt from the very day we booked this that they would mess up with the room type as XL just never seemed to have a clue when i rang them about this. I understand the room will prob be fine for us but the point is we paid £400 MORE than we should have and the fact that part was paid in tesco vouchers dosn't help matters regarding getting a refund from them either...I'm sooooo mad right now

Oh dear, I wish the tour operators would get this sorted. They never seem to know what they are selling. The connecting village family rooms are category 5. It's only the sea view version of these that are cat 6. The cat 4, which it sounds like you have been allocated are quite pricey, so you may have the correct one. Please don't let this spoil your holiday. Cat 4 rooms are very nice and they are quite spacious.

Hi bridd yes it is a cat 4 room which Lykia have def allocated us. I am still waiting for XL to ring me back (I have rang back since to chase them up but they are still waiting for their accommodation dept to sort it out) if Lykia are full then i can't see how they can "sort it out".

Anyway, could you tell me if the beds for kids in the cat4 rooms are very big? On my little map they look like sofas and our 12yr old is tall (5'5")

Unless they have changed them, there are proper beds for four and a fifth can sleep on the sofa, but I think it would need to be a child.

have you actually got written proof they have allocated the wrong room to you and you paid £400 for interconnecting rooms with 2 bathrooms because if you have then surely they should refund you this £400 back. maybe having a chat with ros might help. if its in black and white on your invoice then you might be ok to get some refund or get the room sorted correctly.

we were in cat 4 room and had 1 giant king size bed and 2 small sofa beds in a separate room that were l shaped, then down some steps in our room was a bed settee

Well the only proof we have is our invoice that says "interconnecting family room", no proof of prices, the prices were on the XL web site when we booked it last Sept and I can't even check that now as XL are not showing Lykia anymore as it is fully booked. They did do 2 types of family room though and we chose the dearer one as we were told it would have the interconnecting door and 2 baths, just all verbal really.

I have had the girl from XL ring me back but only to say their accommodation dept are waiting to hear from Lykia?? and they will sort it out, I did ask how they could give us another room when they are full but she said they get different allocations, does anyone know what this means as she has totally lost me I still can't see how they can change us to a room they don't have available? If they can't "sort it out" I will def be asking for a refund of the difference but somehow I think this will be an awful long battle.....glad XL have pulled out of tesco deals so I can't be tempted to book with them again :rage

as far as im aware each TO gets a certain amount of each room type to sell and maybe some only have a few choices and not all the room types, i know that the dreaded garden rooms are not available with most TO but i sure cosmos have them but not 100% and lykia keep some for direct bookings, so xl should have this interconnecting room allocated for you and if you have the word interconnecting on your invoice then thats what you should get and if you arrive and dont get that then you must get the xl rep to sort that out. hopefully its a mistake with the lykia lady you spoke to and when you get there the correct room will have been allocated to you

Yes i hope it's a mistake too and our invoice def says "interconnecting family room", but the Lykia lady def said we have a cat 4 room and she went on to describe it (one bath, one main door etc) when I tried to explain that we should have the interconnecting room she just kept repeating "we are full". Oh, I haven't a clue with all this room malarky, getting fed up with it all now, just wish we were there :( Thanks for your advice all the same ellie and bridd. I will let you all know what happens

In Lykia World's own brochure the descriptions are as follows:
cat 4 - Village family room - recommended for families with 2 children under the age of 12
cat 5 & 6 - Village connected rooms - recommended for families with 2 children over the age of 12

Nowhere does it describe cat 4 as a connecting room although there are definately 2 rooms involved.

Just thought I would let you know my situation with the family room fiasco, XL have rang me again today, they have heard back from Lykia and basically just confirmed what I had already told them, that we have been booked into a cat 4 family room and Lykia are so fully booked that there is no way they can change our room to the interconnecting. So next thing XL tell me is that that are going to listen to our original booking call to try and confirm that we paid more money for the interconnecting rooms!! Can you believe that? It's obvious that they have no idea what room choices they are selling nor why they charge the extra for some rooms.

I think I have a fair idea what has happened, when we originally booked our invoice didn't say interconnecting, only that we had a 'family room' so i rang them (XL) back a few times before they actually got around to sending me an invoice with 'interconnecting' on it, now I reckon they have sent the same information off to Lykia saying we had booked a 'family room' so by Lykia standards they have given us what they thought we should have, if XL had sent the info to Lykia saying we had booked 'interconnecting rooms' then I am sure Lykia would have put us in this room type. All very frustrating, this is exactly what I was afraid would happen. Now it will be a long battle with XL I am sure to get the difference in room type refunded to us.

Can I just ask, does the bathroom in this cat 4 room have the 2 shower heads? Just so we can stick 2 of the kids in at the same time as i can imagine it being a bit of a rush now us all wanting to use the bathroom at the same time. Also is there plenty of wardrobe/storage space in this room type? And last but not least, is the balcony very big? (Now that we will only have the one and not two) Thanks
Reply
in our cat 4 room we had a separate toilet with a large walk in shower there was a normal power shower then a button if you pressed water would come out further along the ceiling as a few times i pressed it in error and got my hair soaked grr. the wardrobe area is huge and again is a walk in wardrobe with loads of space and shelves. our balcony was average size but we were on the ground floor so quite often sat on the grass infront of the apt.

good luck with sorting this out and im sure if you have got the interconnecting room on the invoice then they must admit to their error and refund the difference

Hi folks

Can anyone remember if the beer is efes or tuborg please ?

Doe ;)

They change it from time to time. It's been Efes but last time I was there it was Tuborg. You need to find someone who has been this year.

I think it was Tuborg last year

Hi again, Just an update on our room situation, XL (TO) have said they are going to reimburse us the difference in room price (No one has contacted us about this though, we have had to make countless phone calls to them ourselves this week) and the guy dealing with it is off until next Wed so we can't find out any more details until he is back, typical as we go away on Fri. At least it sounds promising :)

Twinketoes. I know you're upset but we stayed in a Cat 4 last year and they are brilliant - loads of room, my husband slept on one of the beds in the other room as it was cooler than the main bedroom and he didn't complain.

I think you will have a brilliant time there. You will have plenty of room on the balcony too.
