We found our room was never cleaned until 3pm most days so we stayed out until after that time and found it most inconvenient to return desperate for a shower and not having any towels!!! How much longer could we be patient for??? They obviously had the towels ready as when we rang for them they always turned up soon after. No one explained anything to us about a problem with the laundry.

You must have been lucky mehmeh to have such a fab room as the 3 we saw in the residence were def 'tired', can you remember your room number out of interest as we did notice that a few on the ground floor next to the adult pool were empty of furniture as if in preperation for a face lift (floor 1 I think) Our room was on floor 2 as was the suite we looked in, these were in the seperate (sort of) lower block next to the adult pool (don't know how else to describe it!) We had to walk along floor 5 to access another lift to take us down to floor 2 so perhaps the 'main' block has been refurbished already?

Hi all,

we didnt get our room service in the residence till 3pm every day but on departure day when we had to be out by midday they where knocking on the door at 9am - so i told them we'll take our time just like they did all week and we'll be out at midday like it states !!
while we where there all rooms by the residence adult pool were empty but on the last day a family did move in - i think the room numbers were 101 - 105 on that level

i think its fairly normal in turkey as most hotels i have stayed in havent cleaned the rooms til the afternoon. we have just stayed at the ADR and that was the same 2-4 pm the rooms were generally cleaned on our floor, to be honest this didnt bother me. we had a lovely room in lykias village , it wasnt shabby in the least, lovely room with sea views

hi all

we are going back to lw for our fifth time this september 8th for 2 weeks (cant wait) but we have never been this time of year before can anyone tell me will it still be quite busy. will there be any other brits then or just full of germans and russians.

cheers

Twinkletoes - sorry can't remember room nos, but were on 6th floor and we paid for partial sea-views. I seem to remember you were 're-housed', so, as the place was full, they could probably only offer you rooms that were really out of use and therefore their worst!

They probably thought people would not be having showers until just before dinner, so there was no rush to supply bath towels! But I agree it was an irritation. Don't think it is normally like that though. They were just having problems.

The question of what time housekeeping does one's room is a problem everywhere. My children had a standing joke about it every holiday when they were small.

Dazman- we went to LW on 6th September a couple of years back and the weather was perfect. It was around 30 degrees during the day but got a bit cooler at night so we didn't need the aircon then and we slept well withe all the windows open. It wasn't nearly as busy as July/August.
When we stay in the Residence we normally have the same rooms and they get "done" around lunchtime. It depends where you are as they seem to start at one end of the corridor and work their way towards the other (sea) end.

Yes Bridd, I think it depends on where housekeeping begin as every morning on our way to breakfast we would pass the maid on floor 5 and this was around 9.30 to 10 ish, she got to know us as we always said good morning, she was always well 'into' her work whereas on our floor there was no one to be seen!

mehmeh, I think you're prob right that we got what was left as the room style we had was nothing like any of the descriptions in the brochure for rooms in the residence, my husband actually said he wondered if they kept that room just for probs when people need to be moved and the hotel is full, it was idealy situated for a family, one main front door but with 2 seperate bedrooms both with doors and a huge bathroom also with a door and lots of cupboards to put clothes also with a door that closed to make it like a dressing room (much bigger than the village cat 4 rooms and more private as all doors closed!!), the only thing that let it down was the 'oldness' of it, the carpets looked worn and as I said the fridge, units, bathroom etc looked very tired/well used, the cat 4 village room was def alot newer looking but we were moved because of the prob with flying ants..ugh! So as there were alot of empty rooms on the floor below us then maybe there is a possibility that they are refurbishing. As you were on floor 6 then you would be in the main hotel block so possibly these have already been refurbed! :)

It seems silly, but even after spending a fortnight at Lykia I still dont really know what category of room we stayed in. We were in Lymra, Room231 which was the block nearest to the Village Reception. It had a balcony with lovely side-sea views.

I had mixed feelings about it, on the one hand the room had definately recently been refurbished as the walls etc looked freshy painted and the toilet, tiles seemed new & as it was a family room they probably get a lot of wear and tear. I also felt that it was quite large. However the warbrode space was inadequate for 2 adults 2 teens for a fortnight, but then so are many hotels. Toiletries were never replaced during the fortnight & due to weight restrictions I only took limited amounts of shower gel etc. I suppose I could have kept asking for more but it seemed like too much hassle so we eeked out what we had.

I would definately have prefered a door to the shower/washbasin room, we used to get in to the shower cubicle and then drop our clothes (normally only wearing a cossie though) out over the top LOL. Like they do in American sitcoms, because of the enormous mirror opposite in the passageway. But for a family with younger kids this wouldnt be a problem.

We had no problems with getting the room serviced though, maid was there everyday between 9 and 10 am and was very thourough. I would have liked clean sheets and towels more often though. Seemed to be every third or fourth day for towels & it may well have been once a week for the sheets. Ive definately had more often than this in other 4*'s.

These were not world shattering issues for us though and in no way spoilt anything or would put me off of going back again.

We had towels changed every day. You need to put them on the floor if you want them replaced. If you hang them up they assume you are happy to reuse them. To get the shower gel or shampoo replaced you need to take the empty container out of it's holder and they will leave you a new one. Not much use to you now but you might go back one day.
I think you would have been in a category 2 or 3.
3 is the same as 2 but with a sea view. This was the type we stayed in the 1st time we went to LW and we found it cramped. In their brochure they say it sleeps 3 but there were 4 of us. We opted for the Residence after that holiday as we like a bit more space.

Hi Bridd

I think if we went back we would go for two rooms in the Residence which would obvioulsy cost a lot more, but I guess a way round it would be to go for 10 days instead of a fortnight as we have now been once so that would suit us anyway.

We were OK in the room for space, but it would have been better for a couple with one child. it was in excellent decorative order, I really have no complaints at all and thought it was a great place to holiday.

LOL to leaving the towels on the floor. That thought actually crossed my mind one day as I was busy picking them up from the floor where my kids left them, refolding them and putting them back on the rail (I'm a bit OCD). Trouble is the first time you go somewhere you dont really know the systems and I didn't see a notice about towel changing like some hotels have.

None of the above were big issues for us and in a way I wouldn't want water wasted on towels that were still fine to use. Great towels, all white a fluffy. We also never had any problems getting 4 clean pool towels all the time, I could have saved space in the suitcase really, but took four with as we went to the lagoon a couple of times.

Having just returned from the best holiday we have ever had I can't believe the number of petty complaints people post on this site.

Get over it!

should re-brand this forum asap as "gossip column".

We try very hard not to dwell on minor issue like towels, shower gel, when the room was last decorated etc bloody etc we just spend 2 weeks having as good a time as possible - and it was very good indeed.

Anyone want updates will post something over the weekend - however the Tuborg and red / white wine has affected some memory functions!

Yours

Victor.

I assume you mean me as I am the only one to mention these few minor points.

Posts like yours are one of the reasons I have stopped posting on this site.

If you could be bothered to read properly you will see I have reapeated endlessly that these were not problems for us. It's a testament to how good Lykia is that these were just a few items I felt worth mentioning as they may help others.

I was just trying to give helpful feedback on various things I found.

This meant other helpful posters like Bridd could assist others by pointing out that I could have had towels changed daily if I put them on the floor, which I didnt know.

Now everyone who reads this thread will know this ! So it may help someone.

We also felt that Lykia was one of the best hotels we have ever been to.

Did you bother to put up a review ? or would you rather spend your time knocking other posters ?

Oh and the feedback on the Tuborg, DH reported it to be watered down rubbish and couldn't wait to get into Olu to have a pint of Effes. LOL.

look on lw web site for more info on the new changes it all there

Dazman - it is free just to go in the hamman. My husband says it wasn't very hot and was a bit disappointing therefore.

Hi all - Just back from our third visit, noticed quite a few changes - mostly for the better. Will post a review when I've caught up on a few other things (eg washing!), but would like to say we all still loved it and we'd still all like to go again!

Haven't read through last couple of pages thread yet but a quick answer re: chinese - wow what a transformation! We tried it just for lunch last year and wasn't that impressed cos it was a bit dark in there but now is lovely light and modern refurb and called the Blue Buddha with a really nice outside terrace too. Cost 7 Euro for adults and 3.50 euro for kids, advertised as "asian" but is in fact chinese food! We specifically chose the night to go based on there being crispy duck and pancakes on the menu, but shouldn't have bothered because the pancakes were tiny and approx one duck breast between 4 of us!! Having said that it was still worth it as the rest of the set menu was lovely.

anice

ps. i'm thinking the 35 euros is a misprint on the leaflet thingy

Hi anice,

glad you had a great time, i thought it was a bit pricey 35 euros !!! :rofl

i like lw as you will always have a great time and the staff do that little bit extra too when they get to know you, I have already booked for next year - hope to see some of you there !!!

it would be great if there was a holiday truths week and we were all able to meet up - what a time we'd all have :cheers

Hi all, just checking that it is ok for men to wear smart shorts in the restaurants, including the speciality ones.

Many thanks.
