Good morning everyone

I am trying to get an update on Lykia World in Olu Deniz as we are flting there on Friday for 2 x weeks - This will be our 3rd year but we usually visit in May/June and wondered about the following;

> Temperature
> How busy it will be for things like restaurant tables and a lounger by the pool/sea.
> Entertainiment

These are the main things as there will be 5 x children and 5 x adults and we may have been spoiled before by going slightly earlier - As an example in the residence the foyer and bar were not even open or were deserted when we went.

One last thing is that we are arriving at around 1am on the 26th and were considering a private transfer rather than the coach as the children wil be tired - I am told a guy call Hamish McTurk is reliable does anyone know him?

Many thanks for any advice.

Hi,

there is already a LYKIA WORLD forum where you will be able to find most of your answers there,

however, i'm just back from lykia and yes the bar in residence foyer is closed as most use the pool side bar or the village, at the time you arrive at lykia everything will be closed. breakfast is at 7.30am lunch at 12.30 and evening meal is at 7pm.

you may have trouble getting sun loungers for your group as everyone will be on holiday ie - germans / russians and english !!

I used Hamish mcturk he is great and have booked him for next year - your better off phoning him it will cost abouth £1.00 you will need to tell him the following - flight number / time of arrival in dalaman / name of aircraft carrier / and number of people in your party - he will then give you a price

anything else you need to know please pm me by 9pm tonight and i will help but look on the lykia forum for more detail that i have place there.

have a good time

Thanks Gregg

That is most helpful - We have been to Lykia before and this is our 3rd visit in as many years, my concerns are that the experience this year will not be as good as before.

I have read a number of very negative comments and am concerned that we will be dissapointed.

Mainly because of the crowding and i am told that certain Nationalities are very rude - I will try Hamish McTurk to arrange our travel.

Many thanks.

i came back on the 14 july and it was my 4th visit, a few changes but not many - buy your own drink at duty free in dalaman airport as you arrive - i tell you it will save you lots in resort - pour it into a little water bottle and take with you for the eveniong drinking - i save over £140 just on the 2 of us !!

You say you usually go in May/ June. If by this you mean the half-term week, then I think you will find it just the same level of 'busyness' as it was full at half-term this year, so presumably can't get any more crowded! If you went outside of half-term, then yes, it will be busier than you are used to and you will need to get to the Marina at or before opening time if you want a table there. Other restaurants no problem.

Hı to anyone comıng out soon. Lykıa ıs as good as many of the revıews say. The grounds gardens and landscapıng are beautıful and you can normally fınd somewhere nıce to sunbathe even ıf you are late rısers lıke us. Although ıt does often mean draggıng three sunbeds and an odd one to a new place so we can all be together. The only place we havent been successful ın gettıng beds ıs the maın vıllage pool and the resıdence pool ıs rather jam packed for us (sardınes come to mınd lol) although we managed ıt once wıth DH gettıng up at 8am to put down towels but dıdnt feel ıt was worth the effort.

The real star of the show (apart from the vıews) ıs the food. It really ıs excellent. How they manage to maıntaın such hıgh standards when caterıng for such vast amounts of people ıs beyond me. I have never seen such superb dısplays of such thıngs as fısh ın my lıfe. One evenıng they seemed to be cuttıng steaks off a fıve foot long tuna fısh ! To all ıntents and purposes the place ıs AI as apart from about 5.30pm to 7pm you have access to food and drınk all day. Albeıt that the drınk ıs just wıne beer and soft drınks (quıte ımpressed that ıts coca cola sprıte etc and not a cheepo substıtute) thıs ıs fıne for us and unless you are really ınto your spırıts most could manage for a fortnıght.

We are just havıng a late breakfast and an early dınner and mıssıng lunch as ıt ıs so hot we dont want to eat ın the mıddle of the day. We just purchase a sprıte from one of the pool or beach bars to keep our sugar levels up & a couple of lıtres of bottled water to keep us hydrated.

Met another famıly who also booked last May for July 08 wıth Aırtours & got the same great deal we dıd. She had done some ınvestıgatıng & apparently at the tıme Aırtours alledgedly had a problem wıth theır bookıng system not addıng on certaın supplements & that ıs why a few who booked early got such great deals. Her famıly had vısıted ın 2005 and paıd 4K for exactly the same room she had got for 2.7K thıs tıme round so she was well pleased.

Havent been too ımpressed wıth the evenıng entertaınment ın the ampıtheatre so come ınto Olu Denız a few nıghts by cab. Although for those wıth younger kıds they all seem to be havıng a great tıme and the chıldrens paradıse swımmıng pool ıs very popular wıth the those of about twelve and under durıng the day. Its nıce to sunbathe under trees and on grass for a change.

Dont thınk I wıll be able to get on-lıne agaın to answer any questıons but wıll do a full revıew some tıme ın the future.

Have a brıllıant holıday anyone comıng out soon. Im sure you wıll love ıt.

Hiya

Glad I checked back on here am back to work tomorrow and unlikely to be able to spend a lot of time on-line from now with work and personal stuff.

Unfortunately for us the room wasn't really great. There was absolutely nothing wrong with it at all and I think we actually got what we booked ie a family room for two adults and two children with balcony. It was spotlessly clean and large but it did consist of one double bed for the adults and a smallish double sofa bed for the two children.

As mine are mixed sex teenagers this caused us problems, which I wont go into how we resolved but it certainly wasn't ideal.

I did not understand how they allocated rooms as I spoke to a couple who had one 13 year old boy and they were in a room that had a seperate annex and would have been better for us. She also booked with the 'airtours glitch' so I dont think it was a price thing. I think it's more a luck of the draw thing, ie what they have available when you check in.

I felt I had no grounds for complaint as I got what I booked and there were people who had paid 4k for the same room. We just got on with it really, I suppose it serves me right for being so cheap LOL, if I went back I would have to bite the bullet and get two rooms (and a mortgage :D )

The thing that did bother me (nothing to do with Lykia) was that when we got off the plane at Dalaman and reported to the TC rep they had absolutely no record of our booking at all. Not what you want to hear at one in the morning, 9 hours after leaving home, and knowing you are a further two hours from your hotel. :que

I virtually forced my way on to the coach, good job I am assertive, I just refused to budge.

There was no way I was going to organise a private taxi transfer at that time of the day and at my own expense. They blamed the merger :rofl Other people we spoke with booked at the same time as us with Airtours, same flight, same party composition and they were on the reps list. DH laughingly said to them how many more things are you gong to blame on 'the merger' ? It's just crass incompetence really.

Sorry about my Turkey typing in my first post. I am no good with their keyboards.

HTH's a bit. :cheers

so apart from the room problem what did you think of lykia chris , was it better ,worse or as expected ?
ive never found another hotel that lives up to lykia, as hard as i try, letoonia is a close second, but the ADR we have just been to comes no where near due to mainly the standard of food being a problem with the ADR, after lykias wonderful food its hard to find a hotel to beat it !! :que

be interesting to know what other hotels are on par with lykia from someone that has been to lykia and another of similar standard ,scenery, location etc

ellie-meg - I think that is the problem with going to Lykia World, it does spoil you for anywhere else! One just keeps making unfavourable comparisons!

I was very impressed with it Karen. :tup I have stayed in a few decent hotels although they were not Full Board and not in Turkey. One was the Ta Cenc and on Gozo and very beautiful another was the Registry Resort in Naples on the Gulf Coast of Florida, both of these were 5*. I also stayed in a 4* disney hotel the Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando. Plus I stayed at the Mark Warner Ocean Club in praia de Luz (the one where Maddie was taken from :( ). It was at least as good as all of these and in many ways better.

I also loved the Club Belcekic Beach in Olu Deniz and prefered its location to Lykia, the BB had great food, but Lykias was even better. The pools and grounds at Lykia leave the BB wanting.

The thing that amazed me was how well disguised the largeness of the place is. I think its the way they have done the landscaping and the fact that the grounds are undulating so it doesn't seem too crowded.

I also don't think I have been somewhere that you get the choice of sunbathing on a beach round a pool or on grassy areas under trees. It is the sort of place that warrents two holidays as even on the last day you are discovering new parts of it.

I think for choice I would rather go in June but thats a no no with kids the ages of mine. It was getting busier every day. DH didnt like bathing round the pools, with lots of hotels it would be that or nothing, with Lykia you seem to have so many options. We found the main Club resturant too Frantic, but liked to eat in the Residence. The Marina resturant was also great, we never had problems getting a table, but were plagued by wasps (think they are getting into the wasp season over there) so gave up on it.

The staff were lovely as well. It certainly spoils you for other places. :)

I will do a review, but am up to my eyes in it here. lol

i agree it has spoilt me for other places and i always compare, especially the food. we also liked the residence restaurant, chris did you try any of the speciality restaurants.

the thing with lykia we loved was where ever you were on the complex and what ever direction you stood the scenery was fab, from the sea ,mountains to the lovely gardens, that alone takes some beating as most other hotels you have 1 or 2 nice sides and other sides not so nice like main roads etc

30 of us went to lykia and everyone was impressed , even a couple that didnt like turkey when the went last time and werent looking forward to it loved it ,think that says it all lol

I have to agree that Lykia is in a stunning setting and the food is out of this world but I do think all of the rooms need updating/refurbishing they definitely don't do the resort any favours as you expect the rooms to be 5 star as well, we experienced 3 different types of room (actually 4 as we managed to see in residence suite) while we were there and none of them IMO came up to 4 or 5 star. If I had paid what they want for the residence suite i would've been very upset as well as annoyed as the room we saw had very tattered furniture. Though the rooms are clean they are very basic, the furnishings looking tired. We also had probs with the maids never leaving enough towels for the 5 of us sharing (often no bath towels at all, I was always ringing reception to ask for towels even in our 2nd week when it was much quieter).

The price to go to Lykia has shot up for next year and I just don't think it warrants this. I think Lykia may become a victim of it's own success :(
