Hi Tippi - will email you properly later I promise. Becky will be okay with camera in hand luggage - the only restriction Palma were imposing was the bottled drinks and liquid toiletries from what I could see. This was the first time tho' that I had witnessed and experienced the removal of shoes if you beeped going thru' the detector.

They weren't measuring hand luggage that I could see tho' we'd taken the precaution of packing all our backpacks and taking just one smaller bag (big enough to fit camera, camcorder, mobile fone and the Gameboys in).

I think from what I have seen and read that BAA took things way too far and their restrictions were purely a knee jerk reaction with no thought to common sense - I have no doubt that fellow terrorists would have been sat at home having the laugh of their life seeing how everything literally ground to a halt - I bet they loved every minute of it all.

Anyway, perhaps this is not a subject for discussion on a 'fun' thread so I'll shut up. :zip I would double check with her airline as the Majorca Daily Bulletin said there were no restrictions from Palma but individual airlines could impose their own restrictions.

I know what you mean about the rocks in Sa Coma - when I did with James in 2002 I honestly thought we would be crushed to death as sea was choppy and boat was all over the place. It's good from a disability point of view as well - we saw a little boy being wheeled down in his wheelchair to watch to boat leave which would have been impossible a few years ago.

Martin - So I was right about Banco March then! Hmmmmmm! They said they spoke English but not fluently - a bit scary like, have never known anything remotely off going on in either resort tho' noticed this year that more supermarkets have CCTV - Paulas on the front have about 6 portable TV's opposite the till each showing a different part of the shop. Not that shoplifting can be compared to an armed robbery of course!

If anyone goes past the Donkey's Rest - please stop and give Milo a pat on the head and a belly rub from us all - it's a Dalmation before anyone thinks I've been a bit over-familiar with the bar owner!

Oh more replies since I started my last post...

Lou - I swear to God my washing just seems to be breeding and as lots of it was new for the holiday I haven't a clue where the hell I'm going to put it all now it's time to put it somewhere!

There was no carousel  A bit disappointed as I reckon it would have been great tho' I'd have had a hell of a job getting the kids off it. We had to make do with Bike Man and the spray painter chappy at the harbour.

Cheers is still Cheers with Kev at the helm and I reckon he'll be there till he drops!

CBG - Not long for you then! Hotel Temi looks nice but I think the sheer volume of German guests would put me off. We did the Sol Y Mar which were a nice size and balcony was massive but be warned all barring one 1 bed apt is situated in the annexe which face Martin's apartment building and don't see much sun during course of the day.

Meant to add - anyone going to Alcudia - especially lakes area please take good quality mossie repellant with you!

I can't even begin to describe the mess of some peeps on our flight home - they'd literally been eaten alive and the bites were almost like boils - huge, some infected and I should imagine itchy doesn't even cover it! Legs, arms, backs and torsos - seems nowhere was sacred to the little blighters.

I know I was unfortunate enough to get 3 bites from a horse fly (my skin still isn't back to normal at bite areas) which were as itchy as hell but the bites some peeps had were something else and I bet they were driven half daft with the urge to scratch their skin off!

I'd recommend everyone, moreso if you are prone to bites to get some good quality repellant to put on yourselves and get the plug in killers for your rooms.

Don't want to put anyone off going if you've booked but forwarned is for-armed I guess.

hope not too many mossies in Santa Ponsa ? I have a bit of a reaction to mozzie bites so take lots of mozzies wipes and plug in for room and air con set to chill and anti hist tabs just in case. Also have same bother if get stung by jelly fish so I'm a bit paranoid about all biting or stinging creatures. Doesn't spoil my hols just means medicine bag heavy enough to give a hernia !!!!!

Hi CBG. We were in Santa Ponsa, mid May this year, the only probs with mozzies, we had ,was near Mc Donalds, they were some work going on near there and just near the hotel Hesperia, also beware if you go up too the well known square, but you should be ok if you go prepared, Iam sure you will enjoy Santa Ponsa, as we did. If I can help with any other info, please feel free to ask... John at the Boro.... :D :D

Been reading the discussions for a while and now as I only have 25 sleeps left thought it time to join in!

Very true regarding mozzie bites and Alcudia! We were there last September - used extra strength stuff we had left over from Oz and they still managed to eat me alive!! Had loads on my face - which was pretty!! :omg

This year we're of to an old haunt - Cala D'or - haven't been for 19 years! Bet it's changed! I'm going to give Avon's skin so softly a go - a colleague swears by the stuff!

Will let you know when I get back, though in Alcudia think it's all those canals that attracted the mozzies.

Starting to get excited - just hope the weather picks up for when we're there, should still have a good time any how.

Hi all.
Some people swear by Marmite! Not spreading it on the skin but eating it.
Apparently the skins' natural secretions make it unpleasant for the mozzies. As they say you either love it or hate it - mozzies are supposed to hate it. I don't know if it does work but it must be worth a try.... unless you hate it! :?

:) Hi everyone. Has anyone been to the Bellevue Apartments over the last couple of months with Thomas Cook? I haven't been to Majorca since 1983 but am going in September for a few days. I've travelled a lot, my favourite places being Goa and Turkey. What are the prices like? :wave

tippi thanks for replying. beaches sound great we'll try them both. will go up and down the coast anyway - this is my first time to majorca. the water park sounds good, know what you mean bout the burnt feet... been to the waterparks in florida and they are the same... you try and stand on the wet bits... love them especially when its hot hot hot... can't wait to go now, haven't done any packing, just hours of ironing... the packing is better... shall post on this site to let you know how everything went.

have you eaten anywhere in sa coma.. wanted to have a meal and some entertainment.. did you find any bars good ?

Martin - I think it's to avoid the possibility of libelous comments so they take out the word C O N (as in C O N man) and leave ??? in it's place.

Candy - prices went up along with most other places with the introduction of the Euro altho' I still think you find the islands cheaper than mainland Spain.

Mia - we ate at the Britannia Bar whilst out there (came back on Saturday) - hadn't realised there was a separate snack menu and ended up ordering gammon & chips instead which was nice but would have preferred to order from snack menu if I'd seen it first.

Walk along the seafront to S'illot (10 mins Max) there is a lovely bar/restaurant Antic extensive menu all day at reasonable prices. Does get busy but worth the wait. Otherwise if feeling lazy just go into the Brittania as Tis says. Enjoy!!

Hi Tis, glad you had such a great holiday! I have stayed in Alcudia a good few times and the mossies have always been a problem there! What a pain!!
MIA - I went to Aqualand in June. It was good fun! Didn't like that SuperKamikaze though   I'm a bit of a wimp but hey I still went on it
It is a good day out and everything is fairly close together so not too much walking. Also like that they now have wooden planks on the floor which isn't as hot as the stone floor!! Can be a bit slippery until your feet dry a bit though!
From Aqualand you can see Western Water Park. We didn't go there but the slides looked a lot scarier from what we could see lol!
Wherever you go I'm sure you'll enjoy it anyway! Let us all know!

tis; seen menu for brittania girl on website about sa coma and it looks great... got some good reviews too - and its on the way to the beach.. it only shows the snack menu which would suit us down to the ground..

calabonagirl; i didnt know s'illot was that close! am definately going there.. dont want to regret not seeing a few places when i come back.. thanks for the tip on the restaurant.

kate; glad you like the waterpark am looking forward to that.. think will be the main day out - for the kids especially (i'm just a big one) went on a kamikazee ride in america, you wouldnt believe the drop it was in blizzard beach, i got to the top and didnt want to go down but felt such an idiot and there were about 50 people behind me so i did it, it had a tunnel halfway down you thought you were going to hit, it was a straight drop. i was jumpy for ages afters. that was in 2001, went back last year and wild horses couldnt drag me on there, think i'm past it - my bottle has gone... but will go on any others.

am up late tonight... again.... got most things done now... want to relax day before, and recheck my case he he probably be taking thinks out and putting them back in all day. promise i shall reply to you all when i return. am feeling much happier now about digs and town.. some of the reviews are horrible, but then some are great. anywhere better than housework, work, and cant wait to get away from it all ...... think just need some sun!!!

Mia - S'illot is so close to Sa Coma it's hard to see where one starts and one finishes (a bit like Cala Millor/Cala Bona - we walked along the sea front till we crossed the bridge where 'river' meets beach (cute ducks at the water's edge altho' water looked a bit iffy).

We could have gone into other bars but Britannia was the first one we came across plus it was indoors so we could shade from the sun which was really beating down that day.

Gosh it's all gone quiet on here all of a sudden!

Has anyone booked for Majorca for next year? We booked ours back in March - same apartments but a week earlier than this year. Just waiting for flights to come out to see if we can improve on price.

This is the bit I hate about coming back from holiday - I just feel that I dreamt it all  and it's so hard knowing that it all still goes on even tho' you're not there. Mind the piccies I ordered online arrived yesterday and I went to the local craft shop yesterday and bought a tonne of scrapbooking stuff so I'll be kept busy making up a holiday scrapbook.

I'm still washing holiday clothes - iot's sunny today so I should get the last of it dried and then put back into the suitcases and then they can go up into the loft out of the way till next year.

Anyone travelling this weekend - have a FAB holiday! I am VERY envious!

We,ve got our flights booked for next year, but not sorted out accommodation yet, there doesnt seem to be much available to book yet.Hoping to go to Alcudia, we usually try to get a private apartment but there.s not many of them in this area, any reccomendations would be welcome especially for apartments which are more suitable for couples rather than families if there is such a place!
Bye for now
Helen
