Whats your game Snowey, I'm the only miserable git on here, of course if we in England used the euro at home then we would be able to compare the cost of things more easily and would'nt have to worry about commission and lining the pockets of the bankers.

Thanks VirginPaul!

Will be changing cash to euro's, not sure in what quantities - that's hubbies department and as he smokes  no doubt he will stock up whilst on hols!

Told him it was commission free but he thinks there's a catch. He can't work out how the exchange people make any money if they don't charge.

Just collected tickets from co-op and they offering 1.42 commission free but 1.44 much better - especially when you talking upwards of 500!

Snowey - If we don't exchange our pounds into euro's how can we purchase anything when on our hols?

Happy now tickets have arrived! Only two weeks and one day to go!

Hiya Folks!
Me and the family got home from Cala Millor at 7pm tonight, and are tottally knackered.......
Dont have the energy tonight, but will post tomorow or weekend of our 2 week experiences, mostly good.
Must say, that anybody who is going to Mallorca in the future, MUST, budget for a trip to PIRATES. It was fantastic!!!!
Ate in most places in CM and also visited Cala Bona, Sa Coma & S'Illot.
Kev sorted me out with the birthday cake for my daughter. She thought it was fantastic, and shared it with all other kids in Cheers at the time.
Will tell more later,
Adios,
Mark

Hiya

Glad you enjoyed it, I agree with most of what you said, not sure about Sa Coma though, I enjoyed it when I stayed there about 6 years ago. Also had a day there in May this year, the only thing I noticed is that it has gone even more German than before. So glad you enjoyed Cala Bona, it is my fave place in that area, no theres not much for children to do especially at night, though they do have some very good entertainment, in hotels such as Levante, Alicia, Cala Bona, all of which you can just walk into, no-one minds. Oh well have to go now start packing, off on Sunday, to yes Cala Bona for two weeks, lucky me :P

Please try to post in relevent topics where possible.

This thread is for a light hearted off topic discussion.

I am a little worried that excellent advice and reviews will be lost to the forum by being posted in this thread rather than either in a current or new thread.

Hope you all understand my gobbledegook

If this thread is for off topic items perhaps you should change the title to something like "happy days a head or those we have had " there is certainly not much discussion of Mallorca on this thread as a whole but mainly Cala Bono, Cala Millor and Santa Ponsa, and you are quite right when you say that some good information could go astray when posted here. I know that I am a miserable old sod and it is not my intemtion to offend anyone but Mallorca is a wonderful place which has much more to it than British Bars, it presents the opportunity to meet people of all countries and to learn something of their culture.

Hi David

Whilst I agree with your sentiments I have got to say that the British Bars etc are a very important part of the holiday to many families, especially those with young children. Resorts such as those you list provide these but they are by no means all these resorts have to offer. Mallorquin culture is very much alive and kicking in these areas.

My 16 year old daughter has just returned from a 4 week stay in Cala Bona with a Mallorquin family we met over there. Instead of hanging around the streets on the council estate where we live, she spent summer socialising with this family. The educational benefits have been immeasurable - she has been put directly onto a Spanish A level course even though she has never had a lesson. She has gained an insight into Spanish and South American history and culture (she also met Cubans, Argentinians and Venezuelans)

In short - the beauty of these resorts is that they provide as much or as little as you want from a holiday. When my daughters were young, all I wanted was to relax near a pool, now they are older, we can do so much more. :)

Thank you Tippi, the experience your daughter has had in Mallorca sounds marvellous. Please don't think that I am trying to get at anyone but what has been said so many times on this forum it would not be good we all thought the same. As of course you know Mallorca caters for everyone and I do understand that some people enjoy a touch of home when on holiday, but I struggle to understand people saying that the hotel was full of Spanish pensioners it is after all their country and their subsidised holidays are part of it, I have mentioned this when reviewing hotels on the island and on the mainland and found them to be a mixed bunch as we English some aloof and some very very pleasant. I do hope that your daughter will do well in her spanish studies and wish her and you well and thank you for your response to my post.

Hi David

Confession time now! About ten years ago I went on an allocation on arrival to Benidorm. We arrived at an hotel, looked down at the pool from the balcony and there were about 15 Spanish pensioners sat playing cards and ludo! My heart dropped. :?

The first day, nobody seemed very friendly and I thought "I've got two weeks of this". That evening I just said "hola" (the only word of Spanish I knew  ) to one lady in the lift. From then on she took me under her wing and introduced me to everyone who took pleasure in teaching me a few words of Spanish.

Every night there was flamenco as it should be danced (there was a national competition being held and many competitors staying in the hotel) - without the beautiful clothes but with a lot of fun and passion. It was a brilliant holiday! :P

Hi Tippi, we must stop meeting like this  But I love the Flamenco and as you say not some of the choreographed rubbish but as it is performed in Jerez. I can't dance myself but enjoy all traditional type music and dancing particularly the tango, several years ago we went to London to see a show called "Tango Argentina" the haunting music was something that I will never forget

Enjoy your holidays,encantada de conocerle.
