I presume it is the same in other Mallorquin resorts but for the last few years, the number of South Americans (particularly the Argentinians since the 2002 collapse of their economy) has increased dramatically. At the moment they seem to be working as waiters in bars but I would guess soon they will be taking over bars themselves. Maybe we will soon be seeing 'street' Tango in the bars in Mallorca (unfortunately I can't dance either!) .
Pleased to meet you too David!

It's a Majorca discussion and ALL are welcome to post
I think we're all aware that Majorca is a good sized island with various resorts catering for various tastes and over the years we've done Arenal, Palma Nova, Camp De Mar, C'an Picafort, Alcudia and Ca'n Pastilla. I've done all the cultural things (albeit 25-30 years ago) and the kids will have that too - it just hasn't been possible in recent years with the twins being so young.
Cala Bona/Cala Millor is where my heart is and it would be really sad if peeps stopped posting on here for fear they're talking about their fave resort a little too much.
Our children have picked up some of the Spanish language and use it appropriately which is always appreciated, they love Majorca almost as much as me and my hubby, we have several friends in the resort both Mallorquin and British and we all love everything it has to offer - it doesn't end solely with British Bars.
I'm a very fussy eater, married to fussy eater and altho' the kids aren't as bad, we eat out at British places, not because we don't appreciate the culture but because we're not into Mallorquin or Spanish cuisine and I'd really hate for anyone to think otherwise.
Do people look down on us as a family for travelling to Majorca and eating out in British places? I really hope not and I would be extremely offended if someone actually thought so!
Having said that, whether someone goes to see the cultural side or just for the hot weather then surely that is their decision, they are doing what's right for them and not one of us has the right to criticise that.
To be honest I feel a little deflated after this - this was supposed to be a lighthearted place to come, somewhere we could discuss Majorca, our fave resorts, our holidays etc etc without fear of going off topic. Can we do some chillin' and just go with the flow...........?

Hi Tippi - how's you? Did you get the piccies okay? Will sort some more out when the kids are back at school (tomorrow). Today I have to label all their uniforms and pack away most of their summer clothing till next year (boo hoo). Hope some of it will still fit next year!
Don't be so glum get back into gear your enthusiasm for Cala Bona is to be admired I only expressed my opinion and it is you who have said that it would'nt be good if we all thought the same ok you like Cheers the other lady likes Wetherspoons so what we have agree to disagree. So brighten up your mate Calabonagirl will be on here soon and I no doubt will be giving me another rocket for upsetting you. One thing we all have in common is that we love Mallorca but not all in the same way.
I am a little but not so bad really.
Very best wishes,
Dave.
Got your piccies this time! The red sky over the bay is lovely. Don't worry what people think - anybody who has read your posts over the last few months know you do a lot more than sit in bars (but as you say it's a holiday you've worked hard all year to pay for so it wouldn't matter if you did).
I know I have wanted something different from my holidays each time I go (depending on whether I am alone, with my mum and kids). That's the beauty of the area, it really does have something for everyone.
It would be nice though to hear what people like about the resorts they stay at. There is a lot of the Island I know very little about, the North East and South in particular.
We are booked in at the Son Matias in January and although it is quiet we enjoy the entertainment in the hotels and going in the friendly bars in the area.We always use the local buses to go to Palma and other resorts.
Keep up the lively discussions.
regards Sue
Where is the Son Matias? Like you I do enjoy the other resorts but, like most people, work, financial and family commitments prevent me taking more than one holiday a year. As my brother lives in Cala Bona - I use up my holidays visiting him. On the plus side, you get to really know people at the resorts and it makes the holiday so much nicer.
When I first started posting I didn't like to praise the resort too much in case I was biased but Tis, CBG and Parva etc prove I'm not the only person to love it.
This year though I have just booked to go again for my birthday in October (sorry I've not told you yet Tis)! This time I am going alone and just staying at my brothers.
What's Mallorca like totally out of season? I really would like to visit then as I think you would be able to explore a lot more. Better go now, late for work!!!
Hi Ya Tippi: Mallorca are desperate to build up Winter visitors to the island, but most beach resorts virtually close down completely, there is a bit of life in Palma Nova and Magaluf as well as Can Pastilla , we have visted the week before Xmas as well as New year, at that time of the year the weather is very variable we have had snow. We did on our visit to Port de Soller last February but as we go for the walking it did not matter to us and it is a completey different view of this lovely island. There must be visitors to the reduced number of hotels because attractions such as the Caves of Drach remain open. Our regular hotel in Port de Soller does not open at Xmas so we stayed in Can Pastilla because from there it is so easy to get in to Palma which as you know is a lovely city and there is certainly plenty to do and see there. It is also easier to get about the island by public transport and when there we visited Palma Nova and Illetes where we are staying in the first two weeks of October this being ideal because my wife is on the injured list and will be not be able to go on the walks we have planned around the southern part of the island including Dragonera Island, San Telmo, Banyalbufur , Estellencs up to Valldemossa which we have visited many times. Sorry for waffling but do try a winter visit you surely would enjoy it.

Cheers, Paul
It sure is a great offer Paul, Air Berlin are a superb company, I have already booked my flights for February with BMI baby at a good price from East Midlands , the parking for only £21.50, from Stansted the parking is very expensive and would make my travel much more than going from there even using the vouchers. But for anyone living in the Stansted area or who can be dropped off with no parking involved you will not beat it.
They fly to/from Manchester, Glasgow and Bournemouth as well in season. Don't know in winter.
Just checked they have some flights too and from Manchester during winter, some from (but [curiously] not to) Bournemouth but sadly none from Glasgow.
Yes Paul you are right from Manchester via Stansted which would add considerable time to the journey, but I am not looking on the dark side as this would probally suit some people at this price, I am only able to get advantageous rates because I can book very early and go at any time.
Others that will carry from 12 years upwards unaccompanied are Monarch and GBAirways (BA from Gatwick). I think Easyjet allow 14 and upwards.
My kids (now 13 and 16) have been happily flying on their own for about 5 years now - it's all very different from when I was a lad!!
When you were a lad they didn't have powered flights did they Paul?
At least I dare own up to my age!!
Hi all, have been depressing myself all morning - I work at a playgroup several mornings a week and we're in the flight path for Newcastle airport for take offs & landing depending on which way the wind blows.
This morning we had take offs so we got to see all the flights coming out of Newcastle - me saying to the kids "Oooh there's a plane lets wave and wish them happy holidays" whilst thinking to myself "Turn back and let me on please"!
Tippi I am VERY VERY jealous of you going back out in October and I'll be really interested to see what weather and resort is like off season - I can imagine it being very calm and just think you'll beable to walk along Passeig Maritim (the promenade) with no bikes and no brats on scooters Sounds great just saying it.
Weather too hot. Start of Fiesta yesterday having a good time talk to you all when I get back. CBG
Hi CBG - delighted that the weather is good (even if a little too hot). Continue to have a GREAT time and we'll speak to you when you get back!
Where is everyone? It's gone VERY quiet on here all of a sudden. I know we have a few peeps away on their jollies at the mo but even so it's painfully quiet here at the mo.
