Maybe looking going to Fuengirola on Boxing Day. Does anybody know if the trains run on both Boxing Day and New Years Day from Malaga to Torreblanca and back?

Hello there, I have used the service before to Benalmadena, but we are going shortly to the Sol Puerto, and I wondered if anyone is aware if Taxi`s wait at Montemar station which I believe is the nearest one.

There are no taxi's nor taxi ranks at either Montemar or El Pinillo railway stations which only gives you a choice of Torremolinos or Arroyo de la Miel stations. You could give Benalmadena taxis a ring and ask them to pick you up at Montemar? Their telephone number is 952 441 545. Failing that you could wait on the road and hail a passing taxi if you're lucky.

You don't say what day or time you are expected to arrive in Malaga, or whether you are travelling light.
The nearest train station to the hotel Sol Aloha Puerto is El Pinillo and personally it wouldn't bother me one iota to walk downhill to the Aloha Puerto from El Pinillo after being cooped up for 3 hours on a plane, but only if I was travelling light and it wasn't peeing it down with rain.
Another alternative is to disembark the train at Montemar and catch the L1 bus, which will take you outside the doors of the Aloha, but you'd have to check the timetable in the link below.

As you come out of Montemar station to the main road, the bus stop is just further up the road on your left, before the pelican crossing and on the same side as the station"¦the cost is something like €1.19"¦.it's a little urban bus on the local loop between the Aloha and Torremolinos town centre....and although it seems to go up hills and down dales, it will stop opposite the Aloha because this is the end of the first leg of the 'loop'.

The other alternative is to disembark the train at Torremolinos, walk the few yards to the end of the plaza (square) and jump in a taxi.....
The Sol Aloha Puerto is the last hotel within the Torremolinos boundary, so you shouldn't be paying to cross over the border and into another price zone"¦.I think there's a flat rate of €6 within the Torre boundaries.
So, IMO, if you disembark the train at any of the stations within the Torremolinos boundary, then it's best to phone for a Torremolinos taxi"¦.if you get off the train at Arroyo, the taxi driver will charge you more for going into the Torre zone.

Although there is no taxi rank directly outside El Pinillo station there is one about 5 minutes walk away on Ave Benalmadena in front of the MaxiDia supermarket and close to Saltillo Alto apartments.

We've just got home from our hol in la caruhuela and am glad to report that we found the train very easy and efficient to use. It was well signposted from the airport terminal and the ticket machines were simple to use. We only paid 2.70e for 2 of us to travel from the airport to Torremolinos :D

The trains were running every half hour.

Just an update to my previous post on the previous page.

The train station is now about 200 yards away from Terminal 3 arrivals exit.
The temporary walkway has now gone and now access to the train station is more or less directly opposite the arrivals doors at the end of the courtyard.
The pelican crossing has now been repositioned nearer to the sign directing you to turn left at the end of the courtyard paved area, and the whole area across the road has been paved and has been planted with flowers and cacti and leads directly into the station and the ticket machines.
Both platforms are now operating.

Hi Can any one tell me the nearest station to the Costa Lago hotel. we have been pricing the transfers up and they seem expensive for a very short journey and are showing transfer times of 50 mins for a 6 k journey so we thought we would try the train. Any info would be very useful. Thank you
Sorry, it is in Torremolinos, or looks to be at the beginning of it airport side.

Hi neknit,

I've just googled the name of your hotel and it seems to be pretty close to la Colina train station. You can put in the name of the hotel and La Colina into the google map search and it will tell you that La Colina is a 2 min drive away or a 10 minute walk.

Having used the train once, I won't hesitate using it again. They're really cheap and easy to use :tup

There's recently been a rise in train fares from Malaga Airport.
The increase in local train fares from Malaga Airport means that the cost of a single ticket has risen by as much as 12.7% and if you are catching the C1 train from Malaga Airport to Fuengirola, there will be a rise from either 2.95 euros (during the week) or 3 euros (weekends) to a standard 3.35 euros.
The day return discount has now been abolished, so, a round trip on the same day will now costs 6.70 euros instead of 4.50 euros.

Renfe claim that the day return discount was only used by 7% of passengers, (I doubt that) so they have abolished it and replaced it with a new tariff deal. However, if you use the train a lot, it may be better to purchase a Bonotren ticket, which offers ten train trips, which are valid for a month, and can be used by more than one person travelling the same route, as long as they all have the same departure/destination point.....for example, Malaga-Fuengirola ten tickets cost €23.45.

No, it's just a bad translation and the English version gives the impression that you must make the journey within 2 hours, which thinking about it, is absolutely no use to anybody, so I'm going to edit my posts because on the Spanish site it explains it a bit better, and it says the ticket must be used within 2 hours of its cancellation...which I'm understanding as saying you must use it within 2 hours of the ticket's expiry and not its use.
