I have used the train from malaga airport many times and we have always had lots of change for the ticket machines but this time we have no change so could anyone tell me if they take euro notes and give change.

many thanks

Yes, they do take Euro notes and they do give change.

However, if the amount of available change is running low, they stop taking notes.

There is also a credit card slot above the touch screen.

Lovely new trains, too, I noted on my latest trip over last week. New TV-type info screens on board and I saw electronic time and destination boards going up at the stations.
Piece of total trivia/useless information... the mainline trains on our Translink rail service here in Northern Ireland were built in Spain and shipped over, and very quiet and comfortable they are, too... speaks volumes for our once world renowned engineering industry.. where we once turned out skilled workers to build ships and planes, they now board Spanish trains to sell American hamburgers.

I was fortunate to board this brand new train last September, I'm sure it must have been in service only hours because you could still smell the 'newness" of it, it seemed as though they had just taken it out of the packet.
It was one of the 3 new ones put into service last summer, I believe 5 were ordered and the other 2 trains were scheduled to come into service later....it was a joy to travel on, and it would put my local dirty "bone shakers" in the last century.

Anyone know why they dont extend further west than Fuengirola, they have spent a fortune on several new roads each faster and further from the coast why not a railway line?

scroll back to last April! It's heading to Estepona. But there are two big problems with building a new railway.

First, they don't like serious hills so they will have to dig expensive tunnels.

Second, the new roads tend to skirt inland and connect into the towns by existing roads, but for the railway to be any use it will have to go into the towns - and that means you either knock parts of it down or more tunnels!

You mean we have, via the EU money pot  There is no doubt that Spain was in the dark ages regarding its transport infrastructure, and Andalucía has been allocated more money from the Central Government in Madrid, than anywhere else in Spain for this massive project, but they do have some major cities that had diabolical rail links and needed the billions of euros being presently spent to connect these places with the high speed AVE trains., Malaga, Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba. Cadiz. Jerez....all these places needed "joining up" on the non existent network.

You may find this article interesting to read, it's a bit out of date now, but IMO still worth reading.

I did not know that the railway was going to Estepona that's good news, when will it be completed? I must admit that as I am getting on a bit I prefer to sit on a train more than hire a car and drive but I do like all the ports along the coast having sailed a lot there in my younger days.

Don't get to excited, this may take a while. The first set of contracts were issued last April but there's a lot of digging to be done. This is actually the second attempt, the first ended in 1936 due to the civil war. There is an aspiration to eventually reach the Algeciras mainline.

for people heading the other way, rebuilding work at Malaga Centro Alameda station should be completed this month which will help matters a lot.

First time poting here I always use the train from Benalmadina to Malaga airport and find it very quick and very comfortable am guessing with the work going on at the airport the train station will be getting done up aswell ?

The new Airport Railway Station wasn't open three weeks ago. Work is ongoing but it's difficult to assess when it will be completed. All trains now stop on the Malaga to Fuengirola side platform and you still access the new car park via a spiral walk way and footbridge. There are travelators that run along the entire length of the car parks to Terminal 2 (the old terminal) and Terminal 3 (the new one). All arrivals are now through Terminal 3. Once you exit take the travelators outside the main entrance/exit at terminal 3, straight up, following the signs to the railway station and use the travelators.
Going to the airport most British loco airlines still use Terminal 2 for check in. However, if you do not need to check in or have luggage you can go straight to Terminal 3 where the security scanners for all departures are currently located.
Obviously, once the new railway station opens things will improve considerably :tup

Quick question regarding the airport and its 'on going works', have the Easyjet check-in desks moved or are they still in Terminal 2.
:sun2 T minus 12 days and counting.

Thought best to check despite it means the end of our holiday when we need the EasyJet check in. :(

http://www.aena.es website is showing that all easyJet flights are using T2 at the moment.

I`m pretty sure the ticket machine won`t accept anything larger than a 5 euro note. I know I tried a 20 note once and it wouldn`t have it.
Reply
The ticket machines will take a €20 note as long as they have a lot of coins to give as change. As the level of coins available drops, they stop taking €20 notes. When it drops even further, they will stop taking €10 notes and when it gets really low, they even stop taking €5 notes.

The latest machines have a credit card slot.

I arrived home about 2 hours ago with a spliting headache....what a day....stand and queue and stand and queue.
2 weeks ago we landed at Malaga and I didn't have a clue where I (we) was.....we seemed to traipse forever up and down corridors with sections boarded up and work being carried out behind the boards, until we finally got to the baggage collection point.

Then when I walked outside into what I expected to be the section for the taxi rank, I found myself in some sort of court yard, so we took the glass lift up to the travelator and it's a fair trek down until you exit for the train station.
Those steps up to the platform, you'd have thought they'd have dumped some concrete over them and made the steps into a ramp until the new train station is completed.

We decided to get off the train in Torremolinos and have something to drink/eat and then take a taxi to the apartment in La Carihuela/Montemar.....the escalator at Torre station wasn't working, so, Dave had to carry both suitcases up the flight of stairs, that knackered him up.!!! The escalator was finally working on Tuesday (22nd)

This morning we checked in for the Monarch flight in terminal 2 and then had to trek to terminal 3 for security/passport control and a further trek to gates C 225.

We arrived at the airport at 10:05 am for a flight supposed to be departing at 12:10pm and we must have joined the slowest snail speed check-in ever, and at 11:10 am we were still not checked in.
Then we trekked over to terminal 3 to join the queues for security scanning and after arriving at the gate area we were stood for another hour before boarding.
There was no where to sit down, so we had been on our feet for hours.
Malaga Airport is now a big place and you need to allow extra time, especially if you check-in at terminal 2 and depart from terminal 3 "¦.depending on the gate number it can be a fair trek.

I didn't have time to buy/ look at anything, except to queue again to buy a small bottle of water at a rip off price of over 2 euros...can't remember the exact price, but a small water and a small bottle of sprite cost €5.40.
