Hi everyone I know this is a long shot, but is anyone in or around Sunny Beach at the Moment ????

I have booked to stay at the Mena Palace 28th May. Last year this hotel wasn't ready. I have now read on another site that it still isn't ready

I have rang Balkan who are giving me a 100% guarantee that it is ready now!!

I was just hoping that someone might be in the area who could put my mind at rest

Ooooh there are some real horror stories on there....

If you plough back through all the entries there's a lady called June who now lives in Sunny Beach and a few times she has posted there that she will answer any questions she can. Apparently she runs a small tour company out there, you let them know where you fancy going and they'll take you, rather than fit in with organized tours from the operators.

She was a great help when my original booking bit the dust and I had to book a different holiday.

She lives in Sunny Beach so maybe she can help.

I couldn't really work out how the site worked. So I just sent them an email asking if they knew anything about Mena palace. I will see what happens. But I will try and contact this lady you mention Thank you.

Beware of the site mentioned, there is quite a bit of disinformation on it. Dave is not as clued up as he likes to think he is with regards to Golden Sands.

Original booking was for the Riu Evrika with Thomson but that got cancelled with no reason given by Thomson but travel agent thought it was all to do with flights from Bristol. Wasn't happy with any alternative offered so had my deposit returned.

Booked now into the Riu Helios with Eclipse Direct (the one in Sunny Beach, not the Riu Helios Spa in Golden Sands). And flying from Cardiff.

Think in the long run i was lucky. Was miffed when booking was cancelled but have read on here that lots of people who were booked into the 4* part of the Evrika have had their holiday cancelled recently because its not completed, even tho the rest of the hotel has been open a while. At least it happened early enough that i had plenty of time to choose something else that i wanted not what they were offering Thomson wanted me to fly in and out of Gatwick in the early hours of the morning while virtually driving past Cardiff and Bristol airports en route

We're away from 20th June til 4th July.

There does appear to be rather a lot of problems with Bulgarian hotels not being ready when they say they will be. I wonder if this is the Bulgarians fault or the English holiday companies putting unreasonable demand on them
Anyway went back on the site that I had read the first report on, the woman who posted said a friend of hers had been in S/B over easter and that the hotel didn't look finished/occupied.
She said she had rang Balkan and they told her there was some doubt as to whether the hotel would be ready.
However when I rang they said that that was rubbish and gave me a 100% guarantee that it is ready.
Looks like it's going to be a restful time waiting till the 28th May. NOT

Hi lesley sorry cant tell you the sites name but I have just read a post from someone who is going to the Mena ,they say that they have just phoned Balkan and been told that the Mena Palace is now ready for guests. this is another site which deals with beachs in Bulgaria. hope this helps

Thanks Mondeo, Well I hope they are right and it is ready I could do with a peaceful run up to my holiday and then to stay at the hotel I booked for Especially after reading the reports on here about some people who had their hotels changed

By this time you should be just looking forward to the break not wondering what the hell is going to happen when you arrive....

Exactly Del I shall try not to think about it too much. And just wait to see what happens. They should let me know before I leave it its not ready. Hopfully a few weeks before, then if i dont fancy what they offer I will have the opportunity to cancil. Then book somewhere else, but I doubt I'll have much choice in any country with only a few weeks to go

It's been a while. Just wondered if you knew of the new video site Thomson are opreating through Broadband. After receiving an e-mail from them yesterday I visited their site and was really excited to see a video of the Riu Helios. I connected using their link from my e-mail but I'm sure if you log in to the thomson website you'll find your way there. Apparently it only operates if you have broadband though.

I have seen the video and yep the hotel looks good

The video was on their website back last October and then was better as they actually showed more of the hotel. I went to have another look recently and saw they've edited it and now it spends ages showing people in the pool and doesn't show as much of the rest of the hotel

Looking forward to going now, paying final balance today

Sorry I couldn't find the previous thread about the Mena Palace and the discussion on if it is ready or not.

But I have got my tickets today To fly out to S/B on the 28th May and it's still go Mena Palace on the itinerary. So it looks like a good sign and that this hotel is/will be ready.

It's really exciting when the tickets arrive isn't it................somehow makes it more real !!
Just a wee word of warning, my itinerary which was sent with my tickets still shows Hotel Magnolia however I was informed by a seperate letter that I have been moved to the Ralitsa/vita Park (free upgrade Yipee!!!) and last year I wasn't informed of my hotel change until I arrived in Varna!!! I really hope your hotel is finished and that everything goes like a dream for you as I remember speaking to you months ago and I know how much your'e looking forward to it, whatever happens I'm sure you'll have a great time.
