We have just arrived home tonight from a holiday to Marmaris in Turkey and on our return flight from Dalaman to Manchester we had a 9 hour delay, I know the cut off time for compensation is 12 hours so we are not within this bracket, but there were a few other "problems" as follows:-
Upon arrival at airport for our 5.50 flight joined a very long que which was not moving due to the fact that there was nobody at the checkout, nobody knew what was happening until a leaflet was handed out explaining that due to a technical fault being the flight was not leaving, we were to be transported to various hotels in Dalaman, given rooms, breakfast, soft drinks and lunch and hopefully a flight would be leaving at 1pm the following day. There followed after this alot of confusion as this was the only info we were given until some holiday reps turned up and ferried their customers off to hotels, elderly/disabled customers and those with young children were also transported off to hotels which is fine nobody had a problem with this, unfortunatelythe rest of us who had booked flight only were left to be allocated rooms only problem being there was 360 on the flight and Monarch could only find rooms for about 200. We were eventually told that we would be moved to a hotel 5 mins away that the airport crew stayed at, we would have no rooms but could sleep on the sunbeds round the pool or wherever we could find, we would be provided with a turkish breakfast and soft drinks, but upon arrival at the hotel it was the soft drinks included in the breakfast menu if you fancied coke or something different you had to pay for it. Once the sunbeds had gone, there were couches and leather seats and then wicker or metal chairs located outside. The hotel was hot and sticky inside and even hotter outside and there were loads of midgies about. We actually tried to sleep on the marble outside,but it was more or less impossible as it was uncomfotable and of course very hot. We were all very irritable and had no information about what time we would be flying at. A poster was eventually put up saying we would be picked up at 11am and would hopefully be flying at 2.30pm which we in fact did. We were provided with lunch from either Pizza Hut or Burger King, again was fine.
We live in the Isle of Man and were booked on to our Manx flight for 11.15 which of course we missed, we had to book and pay for new flights on the last flight out from Manchester to the IOM.
My question is can we claim the money back for the cost of the Manx flight and if so who from - Monarch, A1 Travel who we booked it with or Custom Flights whose name was on the tickets or do we have to make a claim on our holiday insurance for these ?
We were all not happy about the hotel situation as we were promised rooms and ended up trying to sleep in the heat and could not have a shower or freshen up properly in fact most of us did and could not sleep at all - can we claim anything for this, I have a feeling the answer to this will be no, but it was a really horrible way to treat people.
The above spoilt what was a very enjoyable holiday in Marmaris, I know that planes do develop technical faults but feel that those of us that ended up having to stay al fresco got the rough end of the stick!!!!

Best to check your insurance about the delay as the length of delay can vary from different insurers,but i dont think you will be covered.
Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.
Am not sure re connecting flights you could check your situation with Ros Fernihough on 01922 621114 for free advice.
Have just rang our travel insurance firm and we are not covered for the Manx flights so will give Ros a ring to see where we stand and just to point out that as we live on the IOM we cannot book through flights to Dalaman so unfortunately it is a risk that we have to take, we have no choice.
