Hi Chilly - we changed ours in the little shop along from Teama last season.... it's set back slightly and you have go down a couple of steps, they also develop photos and there was a daytrippers board outside too. We always got a good rate there.

Please note that Nationwide will be passing on the Visa fee of 0.85% from 6th May 2009 for credit cards and 1st June for credit cards. This will rise to 1% from 1st July 2009.This applies to India. For other countries check the link below- many are still fee free.

We will probably continue to use Nationwide in Goa as the rate you get is usually at least 1 rps better than for cash. So even with their 1% charge it will be a better deal, also we will not have the worry of having loads of cash or TC's on us or in the apartment.
Luckily we won't have charges yet while on the boat in France.

Has anyone used one of those pre-paid currency cards in Goa? I go long-term at the end of this year and am trying to work out the best way to get access to money. I will mainly use my newly-acquired Nationwide card (my luck they will start charging!) but was thinking of backing it up with a pre-paid card just in case something happens to the Nationwide card.

Thanks - did the "yes" mean you can use pre-paid currency cards out there? Or yes, NW have started charging. I am easily confused!

Play it safe - mix of cash and travellers cheques. Been quite a few problems with ATM machines this year.
If using credit cards, even if you have informed your bank you are out there, they may block them for security reasons, so make sure you have all contact numbers to get them to unblock it.
Also if your card is 'swallowed' by the ATM you may not get it back from the bank if you dont know all details of it (maybe photo copy front and back ?)
