Chilly, did you let Nationwide know that you would be in India? Only ever had a problem twice, once when I forgot my pin when I was in Australia and it swallowed my card :rofl and once last March where it wouldn't pay out at one ATM in Calangute. Walked along to the next one and it paid out with no problem.

Considering how much money we have printed lately and how much a hammering the pound has taken against other currencies it is doing O.K. against the rupee.

Not as bad as it could be.

Hi can any one tell me if you can change sterling travellers checks in India[Goa]
thanks annx

Yes, you can, however the rate may be different from cash and you will need to take your passport when you encash them.

We always take Sterling travellers cheques. You usually find that the exchange place wil take a photocopy of your passport so that they have your details and then every time you change money they refer to that. You don't need to take your passport every time.

Travellers cheques of course usually pay about 1/2 rupees per pound under the cash rate.

Hi guys I always take cash (£), rent a safe and use as I need it. I was going to do the same this year but the hotel I am staying in the Marinha Dourada does not have safes in rooms but does have safety deposit boxes in reception. Has anyone used these before? Where you happy with the security access etc?

Howard

The Safe Deposit boxes at the Marinha Dourada are as secure as they can be.

Someone from reception will come with you and put in their key and then you put in yours to open the box. Box can only be opened by using the two keys together. You also have to sign a log book every time you gain access to your deposit box.

We didn't have any problems with them at all.

We tried to withdraw cash at the ATM in Dabolim airport last Monday morning. Guess what my Nationwide card was refused twice so I gave up. Rang Nationwide who said there wasn't a problem with my card but there might be with some machines as the are not equipped to deal with the UK's chipped cards. Now they tell me !
I can hopefully get cash out somewhere else when I need to !!

Incidentally I left all my valuables ( mainly photographic gear) in sight at the Marinha Dourada, absolutely no problem and I have full confidence in their security.

ATM's.............What's the maximum amount of Rupees you can withdraw per transaction ?? I'm going to try a prepaid euro card this trip, so, the less transactions I make the better.

djk most ATM's allow 20,000 per transaction some only 15000 rps

Hi chilly

It's Dave Wales who had the problem with his Nationwide card - Easy mistake to make I am dave's wife but not that Dave :rofl :rofl

I'm a technophobe - can only just cope with ATM's here in the UK :rofl :rofl

I rely on travellers cheques.

After several aborted attempts using one bank we discovered that we could use our Nationwide card accross the road at another bank in Calangute. Bad news if we hadn't had that choice though.
