I wonder if hubby likes bikes?
have a friend who brought back a new Enfield about 6 years ago.
don't know the details but he was into shipping and forwarding and so knew his way around the rules re vat, import tax etc etc etc .
Seem to remember that he said it was expensive but the bike was worth it
not in contact with him so can't get any further hard info , sorry

If Brit bikes are his style... he might find more than few in India. Sunbeams, BSA's, Nortons, AJS & Matchless' to name a few. But not in Goa... Up North mostly. Goa only had BMW's in the old days.

yes british or japanese machines. la

sorry Glynis

its a bad habit and sometimes dont realise I am doing it, will be careful.
Thanks for that dak. i think he will settle on the enfields and just see what else available. Got a horrid feeling him and our son will probably hire bikes out there, all seems a bit dodgy, with the police stopping and fining. I'm sure somehow someway motorbikes will feature highly on this holiday :shrug

A word of warning. My husband purchased a Royal Enfield bullet 350 from the Panjim agent in October 2004. So far there has been no sign of the bike or the paperwork, despite numerous phone calls and e-mails. even allowing for the slow pace of Indian life this is worrying.

Hi flimflam,
Something strange here. Has he paid all the money for the bike? Even in Goa things can't be that slow. Perhaps with the reciepts you could contact the Enfield Company Directly... Chenai??? was it an export order or a local payment made in Panjim?

hi all, in january 05 my husband and myself went to the enfield dealers in panjim he was told shipment to liverpool could take upto 6 months!!!!!!!
maybe they were going to ride it over.

We paid in full, to include delivery to Liverpool (this included VAT). we were told the bike would arrive at the nd of December. Have tried Royal Enfield head office and the parent company Eicher, but they don't answer e-mails or letters.

Perhaps the Enfield they will export to you is the international model hence the six month waiting period.
Is there a price difference between buying it in the U.K., and buying it in India and geting it crated and imported in to the U.K.?

Anybody with info on buying mopeds in Goa?

Reason it takes 6 months is that its shipped to the uk via a ship. So depending on when it left what route it takes will determine when it will arrive.

The best bet is to speak with the shipping agents that its being delivered to in the UK. Obviously if you have not had the shipping documents through yet then you cant do this, best thing is to keep trying to get in touch with them.

Mate bought one in December £700 for bike £400 for shipping. Being delivered to a shipping agent in tilbury docks in essex.

thanks all
for such useful information, he is left confused but aware that it may not be as easy as:
1. buy cheap bike in goa
2. ship it back to uk
3. wave at all his bike mates that spent fortunes on theirs, smug in the fact he paid much less!

Has anybody actually got an enfield that has been imported from india and have managed to get it registered because I am really tempted to buy one next time we go but we was put off by someone who reckons there mate imported one then had real trouble getting it on the road because so many things needed attention for it to be uk road legal even things like the petrol cap being too raised and the speedo needing changing. Apparently you need an understanding motorbike specialist to carry out the work to get the thing to pass an m.o.t/sva test. This may all be rubbish. Can anybody let me know.
