fethiye times reads this week that the gocek tunnel could be open in two weeks this is what they wrote :
Workers on the Gocek Tunnel believe it could be finished in the next 2 weeks. The approach road from Dalaman has now been completed including a bridge (see photo) passing over the old road. The contractors issued a press release last month saying the tunnel wouldn't open until September due to geological difficulties encountered whilst they were cutting through the mountain. However, we believe they will want to open it as soon as possible so they can take advantage of the tolls generated from the tourist season and the large volumes of traffic that are generated.

Has any body been to oludeniz recently?
Have they completed the tunnel through the mountain on the road from dalaman airport.

If they have does it save much time on the transfer?

We go in three weeks and i dont fancy going over the mountain at two in the morning if i can help it.

Went to visit a friend in Gocek last week - the tunnel opens on the 20th July apparently.

Hi Everyone,
I took my friend to the airport the other day, bound for Ovacik Turkiye, I have since got a text from him saying that the Gocek Tunnel is now open between Dalaman And Fethiye / Olu Deniz / Calis etc etc ... :) Smiles all round I think :)
Just thought that I'd let you all know......

goan mad

Went through it last Friday and we were told by a (very proud ) rep that it was saving us 15 to 20 mins on the journey.

Thanks for the info regards traffic now using the tunnel. its just in time for us

we travel sunday evening (6th) and did not fancy another trip over the mountain in a mini bus at 3am :(

we are hoping the transfer driver does not go the original route and keep the toll charge

cheers mate

This was a nice surprise to read about! We're off on Monday, and the wife was a tad edgy about the transfer over the mountain (we were last there in '04).

We've opted for a private transfer with Orange Car Rental, and they added a useful note to their confirmation email giving us the option of paying the 3.50YTL toll charge or taking the mountain road... No contest!! :)

Our driver on the way out to Hisaronu went over the mountain at 3 am, we contacted our rep and asked if we payed the 3.5 ytl could we return through the tunnell.

It took 90 seconds to travel through to the paybooth instead of 20 minutes lurching about in the back of a mini bus.

No contest in the future, tunnel every time, ask when booking holiday your if transfer is via the tunnel.

VIVVIAAN me neither,

its just the after travelling through the tunnel, it make you realise you have done a transfer via a trip through a spindryer.

Hi, :?:
Sorry silly question but reading all this tunnel news from the beginning I got quite excited that the journey may be shorter. Is there a chance that transfer to Olu Deniz will not go through the tunnel? Why? :P

What are the times if using tunnel and not?

(Never been before so wondering as when I booked and knew it was a long transfer it was a bit of a um moment but the pictures and reviews swayed it!)

Booked with Thomson and got the Friday morning flight into Dalaman with MyTravel plane. (If this helps!)

Bonus if it is a shorter journey.

Not a silly question, Lazying by the pool,

All transfers go through the tunnel if going towards Olu Deniz, Fethiye etc. the time in the tunnel is around 1 minute to 1 minute and a half.

Just got back from Olu Deniz and cuts off a lot of time on transfer.

If you are going on a thomson holiday to Olu deniz and your transfer is booked also with Thomson you will go through the tunnel.

Enjoy your holiday

Hi Lazing by the pool

I was also on a Thomson Friday departure (Gatwick) and we were also consolidated onto a MyTravel flight due to bookings to Turkey being down this season.

We came through the tunnel on the way back, as it opened whilst we were in Olu D so I'm sure you will be using it both ways. Great stuff Eh!

I felt like it had been opened for us as we were some of the first to go through. :D Enjoy

Great! thanks loads!

what does that make the transfer time now?

More time on beach/at bar/swimming pool and not on coach sounds good to me!
:D

Not an expert as we were first timers. (Bit sad but I was so excited I didn't really notice how long it was taking on the way there  )

I'm sure the thomson rep on the coach on the way back said it was saving us about 20 or 25 mins, so just deduct that from whatever it says in your brochure.

(I think most used to say about 2 hours  I remember that because it used to put me off of going there!)
