Which company do you use for the car ? We used Carjet last year and I'm sure someone in the queue paid with cash (after a bit of persuasion ).
Have a great time. Gx

Hi - we made a booking with Carjet inline earlier this week and it must state about 20 times before you confirm your booking that you MUST have a c/card, even if you have paid on line with a debit card - very bizarre but if there website is anything to go by you will need LOTS of persuasion!!!! sorry :?

We have always used Carjet, and even in June this year payment by Debit card was not a problem. Since then though rules appear to have changed a little.
Thanks for the comment Parga (one phone call from wifey to Carjet at Palma Airport today........problem sorted  ).
As for the other problem, the threatened baggage handlers strike, again another phone call to the airline and we are told that none of their flights are involved..........????
So hopefully come this time monday night.........the hire car will be parked outside the hotel, our suitcases will be with us and we will be enjoying some long awaited San Miguel.

Carjet isn't a hire company they're just booking agents so it's not them you have to convince.

Usually you can pay anyway you want but they still want a credit card imprint as security (in case you steal the car I suppose).

I'm not exactly sure why a debit card isn't acceptable but i think it's something to do with the fact that you can cancel a payment by debit card after you've authorised it or the bank can refuse to honour the transaction due to lack of funds.

A credit card payment is immediately secure because it's the credit card company who pay the car hire company and then you owe the money to the credit card company.

Not sure if this makes sense but maybe someone else will know more than me!! :?

Have used my debit card at Record car rentals for the passed 5-6 times, without any problems. The only difference I can see is I always take out their additional insurance at 4 euros a day extra.Or maybe its Im a loyal returning customer, without any accidents??

Pipefitter.....have you hired a car since july-august??? We have never had any problems before using a debit card but apparently this new rule has come in since we last hired in June.
The only additional insurance you can get with carjet/Europa is for tyres, in case of blow out etc, everything else is covered (except breakage of glass, or loss of keys).
We tend to take out the tyre cover (about 7 euros for the week i believe) just to be on the safe side.
72 hours from now, ice cold San Miguel will be in easy reach..yipppeeeeee

Coleport27,I used Record 2weeks ago at Palma airport.I produced my card and was asked if I had another,I said no,so they accepted my debit card,on the basis I took their extra cover for tyres windscreen etc.
