The only way that it can be done is by scheduled flights, flying to Mumbai then on to Goa, you will have a bit of a problem with accomodation as 90% of the hotels, only open during the tourist season, but there are hundreds of guest houses that will let you a flat or room. It may only rain for a few hours, but I am afraid that you will be walking around in red mud. It may look greener, in the countryside, but you will not be able to visit the beaches to swim, or sunbathe. There will be very few restuarants or shops open, other than the local Goan's use.

Then again you may have a good time.

A few people off this forum have been to Goa during their rainy season.
There arent any charter flights to Goa during this time, so you would have to go via Mumbai, as tomitma has just said .

I know of a few restaurants that are open through the rainy season, and im sure if you use the search facility here you will find a few trip reports from people who went then.

I think you need to have posted a certain number of posts before your allowed to PM.
I think your best bet regarding flights is to use a website like travelsupermarket, just to get a basic idea of prices.
Select your UK airport, then select Mumbai.
For the flight to Goa try a local airline, i think they cost around 50pounds per person return.

If you use Jet all the way including the Mumbai-Goa sector, you can check your bags into their desk at the international terminal, and it saves you lugging them over domestic terminal yourself We found that Southhall travel were very competitive with fares with Jet. alan

We will be in Goa until the beginning of June and then back early August. We enjoy the rain. We get wet but it is warm rain. I think you have to have a certain attitude to it that is the rain may last all day but then you may get a few days sunshine so you have to go with the flow! We still walk on the beach with our dogs...get wet....go to Margao get wet and muddy...run in and out with the washing [just bought a tumble dryer so no more]...read a lot..
We are flying with Air Sri Lanka. Goa to Colombo and then to Heathrow. They are cheaper than Jet and we wanted to go to the elephant orphanage so will have a few days in Sri olanka on the way.

I agree about Sri Lanka Airlines they are great to travel with and just looked up on tickets to India web site and for June 7th for 3 weeks price Via Columbo is only £417.00 which for scheduled airline is excellant value. I also think it's a good idea to stop of in Sri Lanka for a couple of days as it's a great place to visit with people as friendly as the Goans and with as big smiles.

Try Etihad Airlines, they are currently coming up quite reasonable!! They fly Mumbai to London or Manchester via Abu Dhabi and are in my opinion much better than Virgin. Have also flown with Sri Lankan - very good,they put you up in a hotel and feed you in Colombo if your connecting flights are more than 8 hrs apart.
Monsoon is lovely in Goa particularly for one reason.....No charter tourists

Hi Philduk, which website did you find the sri lankan airlines fares to Goa. I have not been able to find any flight schedules for them on their own website unless it is because I am looking for november and it is too early. Flew with them earlier this year and the flights were fantastic, also flew first leg of the journry with Etihad Airlines and again brilliant flights.

You say 'summer holidays, would this be July or August? These are the two wettest months of the monsoon, and there is a huge difference in having your own place there, or staying in a hotel. Most hotels are not equipped enough for the rainy season, neither are most people, unless they are indian and used to the conditions that monsoon brings. It is not just rainy days, its very humid if the sun comes out (steaming), there are loads more insects, bugs, flying ants, white ants. Roads and tracks become rivers. I speak from experience, I have had a house in Goa for 22 years and spent several monsoons there, in a well equiped house, with staff, internet, loads of books, sat tv, and everything you need to be comfy. Without all these little luxuries it would be quite different. I would think very carefully about this. Oh and dont forget all the ailments that go with damp, wet, humid weather, especially for people who are not used to the conditions.

Have you tried the Sri Lanka airline web site, we booked directly online to Goa in December and it was cheaper than using an agent.
Just looked at the dates you have chosen and it is coming up as £390.60 inc taxes.

The flight prices do change depending on the season but it is nearly always cheaper to fly at the weekend so have a play around with the dates, it's suprising how much you can save, and also as it is a scheduled flight they fly daily.

Philduk I think the stopover thing is a really good idea, our friends did that on the way to Goa this January, we have travelled to SL with SL airlines many times and always found their service excellent. They really make a great start to your holiday.
