Far too early I think, keep an eye out for Qatar though they seem to throw up some bargains now and again.

Yep too early. Thomas Cook are taking package bookings for around the £ 800 mark so you could save £700 straight away but the flights only will drop lot later on in the year. Just keep checking.......

The fact that the charter companies are laying on less flights has driven the price up.

The recession has hit hard in the UK so there are less tourists.

However another reason there is less demand is the never ending decline in standards in Goa. No need to go into it too much you all know the problems.

So less flights equals higher prices for those of us who still want to go.

I am waiting to see which UK tour operator will pull out of Goa first.

Peoples expectations have changed and most will not put up with how bad things have become.

It may well be just us hard core few who return year on year.

Even then the hard core seems to shrink every year.

I had heard that Thomson were not flying to Goa later than Feb 2013 from Manchester. I have just had a look on their website and it would appear to be true. I can't see any packages departing later than around 26th Feb.

Is this the beginning of the end?

As long as the likes of Qatar keep going, old diehards and addicts such as ourselves will keep on. We've booked flights for November with Qatar at £ 609 about £45 less than we paid last year. I know Qatar had a crazy sale last year, but with the shrinkage in charter flights, we decided to just take that price. The only thing that might tempt the big companies back into the Goan market, like a few seasons ago, is the worsening situation in Eygpt. All of a sudden Sham. etc might not be such an attractive budget alternative destination to Goa.

I have booked our holiday 2013 to Goa leaving Manchester on 29th January, 9.30 am flight arriving Goa at around 10pm.

The information given by one of the members is incorrect about no Thomson flights from Manchester till 25th february.

Hi kks44,
I think you might have an unpleasant surprise on the flight timing of TOM166 to Goa from Manchester next winter. I checked, and found it gets into Dabolim at 0045 - I reckon a horrible time. It's NOT a 10pm arrival time which might just be bearable.
That's one reason why I'm not booking next year with Thomson.
But looking at Thomsons timetable you are correct in pointing out that they actually do seem to be flying throughout the normal winter season, not cutting off in February.

I said that I couldn't see any flights departing Manchester after 26th February, not before.

I've looked at Thomson and Thomas Cook flights to Goa next winter Manchester, and even Gatwick, and I see that both major operators have swapped their all flight timings to departing in the UK morning and arriving Goa in the very small hours of the morning in India. I reckon these flight timings are horrible. And truly ghastly when heading for home again at maybe 3am India time.

Why did they do it? If you look at their other winter destinations like Mexico or the Caribbean islands, I see what I consider as much more civilized timings.
After eight years in Goa, not for me in winter 2012/13 I'm afraid. :cry

Booked with Qatar for early landing 3.30am and 4.00am departure. 1st time we have had those times and not thinking it may be the best, but will wait and see..

Spike,

That Qatar flight has one major advantage in that the airport is quiet both arriving and departing.

The downside is the last day knowing you have to leave for the airport in the middle of the night.

We have an early dinner and then get to bed for a couple of hours.

We've got same time flights as you Spike going this Sunday from Manchester, arranged for taxi to pick us up. Hopefully we will be at Rising Waves for 5 - 5.30am, plan is to try and get a few hours kip then unpack and stroll to beach in the afternoon. Not sure what to expect at airport regarding immigration (hoping it will be quicker) and whether the good old bag snatchers will be present ....... :yikes Keith

Keith,

Last year immigration was much quicker but those bagsnatchers were still there.

Rest assured the bag snatchers will be there in numbers, but a very very firm no should deter them, the immigration is much better at this time , our last two arrivals with Qatar saw us through both times, long before the luggage. The only snag is the departure, they are in no hurry to start the bag xray and the check in is slow as usual, then the boys and girls in brown wander out very slowly at about 02.15 am and reluctantly start work, meaning more queues. We find the departure much worse now than the arrival. A good tip is if you get checked in early just go upstairs to the cafeteria between the terminals and have a coffee and toast or whatever till the immigration get their act together.

Gramps,

We avoid that problem by turning up about 3.15. More or less everyone checked in problem solved.

Hi ukbill,
Thanks for pointing out the arrival time at dabolim. You are right that all flight timings have changed. I am not sure how much of that is due to the landing charges at the airport. At least hope to get a few hours of sleep before heading to the beach. This years flight timings are better reaching early morning. Shall be there on the 14 th. Escape from the winter spell providing the planes do take off!!
