Are you trying to say Goa attracts "cheap tourists"?

Am sick and fed up with all this. Seems no-one on this forum is allowed to like Goa or make any positive comments about it. I'm peed off with reading doom and gloom in this forum. We haven't got a forum on this site that is so full of certain members determined to spoil Goa for holidaymakers.

Bans will be made very shortly as there's just no need for such negativity. If you're so upset or disillusioned with the place then go somewhere else and let others decide for themselves.

We are not chippie fish and chip people in UK but here in Goa there is no better place than Tonys at end of the cross roads opposite to Nerhul crossroads.
Go from Calangute to Candolim to the crossroads where you can go left to Nerhul but go right to Tony*s
- 180rps for the best fish, chips and peas in Goa - a bit skinny on the peas but ask for more.

People moan about pie and chips and fish and chips, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it is the same people eating these foods every day. For all we know they may have eaten curries for several days and just want something different for an evening meal. If there wasn't the call for it then restaurants wouldn't sell it.

I am also becoming tired with those posters who are probably staying long term in Goa who are determined to criticise those of us who they perceive to wear rose tinted glasses (because they see the real Goa and we only see a snap shot). Like most people, we know the negatives (the rubbish, the increase in prices, the number of sunbeds on the beach, the DABS, having to check and re-check your room bill, restaurant bill etc., etc.), but that can happen anywhere in the world.

Any newcomer to the site can read through all the forums to get an overall idea of what Goa is like, so we don't need some posters going on and on and attacking other posters. People are quite capable of making up their own minds about a place.

Yes, like most people I moan about the things I listed above, but Goa is under my skin and I suspect will continue to draw me back. I didn't go last year because I didn't have a job and I really missed Goa. So, on Saturday I am going to Gatwick and flying out there and I cannot wait.

as long as I can still get curries, great seafood and fish, I don't mind how many places advertise 'anglicised' food, and I do appreciate that people may fancy a change from more spicy foods occasionally.
It certanly doesn't make it a place that attracts 'cheap tourists' as that type of food is usually more expensive than say Chicken Xacuti and Naan.

I can walk past restaurants and bars with enterainment that's not to my personal taste and go into places that do suit me.

I think the point that Papa was making, and me too, was that there seems to be a growing number (compared to a few years ago) of places that offer 'anglicised' food.

As long as I can still find food and entertainment that I like, I'll (like you) carry on taking holidays in Goa.

Hope you have a great holiday.

Hey everyone.

I offered my honest opinion of what I saw in my week in Goa.Not being overly negative at all.I called it how I saw it and have also said in more than one post how much I and my partner love Goa.

We have been going to Goa for longer than I care to remember. We had a break and came back to it.

I will not be accused of Goa bashing.Anyone can read my history of posting and will surely see that I tell the good and the bad.

Comments I made about goa becoming like the Costas are in all seriousness trying to show just how much Goa has changed.

Look,if some people like kareoke, quiz nights ,football(and I love football) then fine.Oh and by the way after a few nights of Indian food I am more than happy to try something more plain.

My report was meant to inform and give my opinion and I really cannot believe one of the mods is talking about banning members for expressing their experiences.

I did not say the B word in any of my posts but really what is the point of posting a report if it does not generate lively discussion.

I have honestly supported the mods in the really difficult job they have but I post on this forum not to be negative but because I and my OH love Goa and want to see it thrive.

Papa gave an honest trip report based on his latest holiday in Goa. Some negativity is unavoidable if you want the truth as Goa has changed so much,i think most people will agree with that, but this does not mean that anyone is "Goa bashing". I am sure a trip report written by Papa 10 years ago would of been a completly different post as it would of been for myself. This does not mean that anyone is trying to put people off going to Goa or being negative most people love Goa but are very unhappy with how it has changed.

Papa I wasn't referring just to this thread. As you know this 'sniping' about Goa has been going on in various threads for a while. Many members have complained about a small group of people who seem intent on going into a thread and making negative comments. I perhaps shouldn't have hijacked your thread in particular in which to post my concerns regarding certain members. They posted here so a warning was given. I've since had numerous pm's in support of my post.

Enough said about it. I'm not entering anymore conversation about the matter, it's all been explained before.

As I say, I apologise for posting in your thread.

mmmm I want to say something but not quite sure of the best way to put it! I don't like spicy food and it doesn't like me. I've tried to eat it on previous trips to Goa and even when I can handle the taste it makes me nauseous after a few mouthfuls.

The last time I was in Goa was January 2000 and my choices were very limited but i survived on Soup, Naan Bread and the occasional steak or pizza. I had three trips to Goa in the space of four years and loved every one - the climate, the beaches. the people, the cows, the dogs, the general daily chaos. :D

I' m really looking foward to going back again. I'm delighted there is more choice of anglicised/european food except I will probably put on weight this time where on my previous trips I lost it :rofl

I will post a trip report when I get home and give a balanced perspective of the changes over the last 10 years - I'm sure I will find many but that SOME of them will be for the better ;)

I'm already compiling a list of recommended restaurants

One of my biggest disapointments the last few years has been our loss of appetite. Not sure if it the heat or age but we can never finish a full meal.

Get a bit tired of being asked if there is something wrong with the food when its us that just cannot finish a dish.

I think we should just have starters.

I know what you mean Javelin and Papa.

Anything stronger than black pepper makes me cough and splutter; once I start choking I cannot stop. I tend to live off of curries that are mild and creamy.

We too have found that our appetites have greatly reduced over the years, so we assume that it is the heat. We never have three courses and the waiters always ask if everything was ok.

This may sound sad but towards the end of our holiday I really look forward to having a lasagne at our hotel because it is one of the best I have ever had. Even then I cannot eat all of it.

As for papas post,as I said, I thought it was spot on. I,ve been here for the last few weeks as I have every year for the past twenty years or so and will be back again early next season. I was amazed at the reaction of the Mods, although she did say her comments were not aimed at papa. Surely a discussion group must include warts and all, or newcomers to Goa will be given a false impression. For what it's worth, the shacks are getting up and running NOT in the allocated spots but in their usual spots. Whether this will be allowed or will the Boys in Brown return, who knows. The beach is much dirtier, the beggers far more numerous, many shacks have put their prices up 20 rps to recoup for lost time. the Sinquerm beach is a lost cost, and the local tourists and Russians far outnumber the the Brits. Taxi drivers still demand 100rps for the shortest trip but unlike other seasons quickly come down when challanged. Now if these few thoughts make me one of the troublemakers so be it, but unfortunatley it's the facts at present. I've been in love with this place since my first visit over fifty years ago, but it does'nt make me blind as to what it's like today.

We will be returning in Feb for 3 wks as we have done for many years, and like most people (apart from maybe 1st time visitors) look forward to the trip reports from those who go earlier in the season. We are aware of the problems in general rubbish/taxis/roads ect which have been there since are 1st visit but I am thankful for those who post to inform us of things that are happening there now, the price rises, shack situation, new places opening, old favourites closing ect. If people dont want to hear about the downsides of Goa just read any of the brochure descriptions but be warned it wont be as Idylic when you get there, nobody holds a gun to our heads when booking our hols and we choose Goa because we know what we are getting...warts and all....Keith

The point is though Alan, most places change over the years. If a place you like changes into somewhere you don't like then move on. Find somewhere else that you do like. :que

If I feel in love with a Greek Island and holidayed there for years and then the area started to change not to my liking I'd simply find another destination. I wouldn't launch a vendetta about the place, I wouldn't scan the newspapers daily hunting out negativity and post it on the internet. I'd be disappointed of course, but I know things change and not always for the better, but there's nothing anyone can do about it accept boycott the place and move on :que
Holidaymakers are wise enough to make their own decisions regarding holiday destinations.

Agree with you Glynis , back in the late 90's I visited Ko Samui in Thailand and I have to say it was pure PARADISE !! however over the next few visits it changed to such a degree that I did not recognise my beautiful island , so I moved on to pastures new and never looked back.

like some others here, my first trip to goa was ages ago. to be more specific 1970. maybe i'm blind and/or stupid but the reasons i go there again and again have remained the same. in india i find wonderful people, breathtaking sights and culture we can/could envy. to say nothing of the sun and sea and delicious food.
there are allways two sides of the story. i see/accept the darker side. but if some of posters will focus only to dark side of this country, i feel that unjustice has been done. my brother once said to some poster in another forum, who could not stop whining about the litter and trash. rise your eyes and you see wonderful things. if you prefer to keep your sight low enough to be blocked by s**t, then make yourself and others a favor, and do not leave home.
I share his point of view.
