Roma,

We too are just back and you have saved me the trouble of writing a trip report.

You really have said it all. Well almost.

Agree about the Rubbish the place is a pig sty and you just know nothing will be done about it.

Heard about the Ukranians beating up the taxi driver and then getting jumped on themselves. Peaceful Goa eh?

We really had a good time but there are indeed now lots of bad things that are starting to outweigh the good.

My list of the worse is:

The rubbish just about everywhere. Its disgusting for a place trying to attract tourism.

The Airport is a disgrace.

Taxi drivers are having a laugh so we now use a scooter.

The dogs are out of control roaming in packs and howling and fighting all night. There needs to be a massive cull. Sorry dog lovers but it is out of control.

We have alredy booked the same guesthouse for next year but wonder how much worse it can get.

Excellent Roma, we got back last Saturday after our usual 3 weeks. We stayed at a different hotel this year after 9 years at the Marinha Dourada, we also tried different shacks instead of sticking to one.I am on lates at work next week and I will try and put something together and post it on here (its only fair because I enjoy reading other peoples reports)...cheers Keith

Great report, I agree with you re Newtons, the owner was a miserable sod when he ran the till at his Calangute shop, strangley his wife was a charming person, but I did'nt notice either last November
So thats another institution gone then, we looked in vain fo Carmen in November and thought she must have moved on, sad really, we smiled every morning as she paraded past, she must have had a very large suitcase, as she changed her coulor schemes daily.

A great report, Roma - I don't think I could disagree with any of what you say.

It's a bit scary about your PC being compromised.

And, I 100% agree with you about Newtons.
I only ever buy anything there if I can't get it anywhere else (usually Biotique products).
But I do like to have a mooch round and always get a girl following me which I find a bit of a pain.
One morning I popped in there for some lip balm and I happened to have the remains of my chicken tikka in a small plastic bag for the dogs.
The guy outside insisted I should 'check the bag in' even though I opened the foil and almost stuck it on the end of his nose so he could see what it was.
Were they so badly ripped off by shoplifters so they automatically distrust everyone or are they just distrustful to 'be on the safe side' or is it just a standard Indian or Goan trait?

I'm getting fed up looking at this sort of thing - it wears me down. :duh

I call this image "Dustbin Kids"
I just hope that, as a tourist I'm not responsible in some way for this.

Me too !
Interestingly there are fewer HT'ers in denial nowadays. When I first posted my opinions a couple of years ago there were quite a few who got upset about my negative comments.
I think far better to know the truth than arrive and discover that all isn't quite as it appeared in the brochure.
cheers Dave
