Sfelts - I think many of us on here know Goa has a problem with garbage. There are people who visit Goa and find it very upsetting and don't go there again. It seems to me that you're one of them.

I don't like garbage but can put up with it because there is so much about Goa that I do like

I can't help thinking that your efforts will be more constructively used in finding a place that suits you better rather than launching barely coherent rants about a place you clearly don't wish to go back to.

is this because I would be deleted, its on trip advisor oh my god the competition no wonder,

sfelts, contrary to what you might think we don't delete posts that refer to our 'competition' we gladly allow posts / links that are relevant to a discussion from other websites, that is why it was NOT deleted when I checked the forum earlier.

I will use this as a reminder to everybody to keep it friendly

It is filthy and it is a disgrace thats what upsets those of us who have come to love Goa.

BTW that was me on TA did not think I would get away with it here but we will see what happens.

My real gripe with Goa was really being driven out, I lived there many years and the restricted visa situation then the threat of property confication and the feeling that Goa really does not want you there, I heard comments from locals like go back to your own country and we only want two weekers were quite offensive to someone who spent regular all year round, and when people like Mike R get refused entry for no reason it really make you think.
The rubbish just got worse as close to where I lived the road towards Nerul bridge was just a long line of rubbish tips all along the footpath, its a pity as I enjoyed my time there but everything has to come to an end and I among others have left either willingly or forcefully but hey, I am happy now that may change as the current world unrest anything could happen so live life a day at a time.

Well done Sfelts for coming clean ( sorry about the pun! ). I can empathise with your situation and glad you have found your Shangri La elsewhere.
For those who have known somewhere a long time, the changes can be hard to take.

I agree with your comment about sfelts's post, DaveWales.

But sfelts is/was in a position very different to most of us who post on here - a very upsetting position agreed but not one that tweekers or even those who are long-stayers who don't own property but instead rent apartments experience.

As a long-time (not long-term) visitor to Goa on-and-off since 1994, I have seen Goa change, a few things for the good but some things for worse.
I don't see the point in listing those changes here as it's all been well documented and discussed to death.

When I get fed up with Goa I'll decide to move on.
I do get the feeling that a number of people similar to me are getting a little disenchanted with Goa.
I think I might be too, I posted on the 'are you going back' thread with a 'maybe' rather than a resounding 'yes' which I would have said even this time last year.

I might keep popping back to the HT & TA Goa forums as I find the topics interesting, but I'll propbably spend more time on the fora that relates to the places I'll be visiting, exactly the same as I do during "closed" season in Goa, I'll be on one of the Greek or Turkey fora, depending where we've decided to spend a couple of weeks this summer.

If someone's fallen out of love with Goa, that's fine.
But please don't try to taint other people's continuing enjoyment by being negative on every thread.

Don't worry I can assure everybody we are not, it is probably a good time for members to refresh themselves with the contents of this THIS .

A debate and difference of opinion is healthy and provides a balanced view however, it must be kept friendly and free from personal attack on other HT members and a final reminder as mentioned previously by Van

It's been brought to my attention that a few expats and owners / ex owners of property in Goa have been posting with reports of a negative nature in an attempt to cause as much disturbance to these forums as possible and also what seems to be an attempt to disrupt the tourism industry in Goa........Please take the time to think about what you post and where you post it.

I do believe the influx of domestic tourism has played a large part in the deterioration of standards. Day visitors bring their own food and drink and don't use the bars and shacks nearly as much as Europeans do because, to them, the prices are outrageous. Consequently, a lack of civic amenities including public toilets and waste clearance has created a disgusting, hazardous environment. Yes, it's India but do tourists have to accept it ?
The answer of course is No. The ball rests in the Goan government's court, they may or may not wish to address it.
Interestingly, on a recent visit to the Gambia I noticed the fruit sellers were raking their patch of beach every morning before starting to trade to make sure that there was no rubbish. The beaches on the main tourist areas are better kept than ones in the UK.
It's appalling that you can't walk on the BCC strip without fear of treading on broken glass and bottle tops.

OK, it might not make any difference at all, but if enough people email, it might just make them sit up and realise that this is an issue that is actually putting people off and making them think twice about visiting Goa.

Last time they were doing any serious work on the River Princess (a few years ago), the beach around there was strewn with rubbish that had obviously been thrown overboard and carried to the shore.
It included empty bottles, fruit, veg and all sorts of other cr*p.

I hope that's not happening again.

I have written to a number of Tourist Ministers over the years starting with Doctor Willy DeSouza - we even had a meeting with him but nothing became of it. Pacheco and the rest have never replied - numerous letters to the Herald, which were printed and one was made into a piece by the Editor a couple of years ago.
Has anything changed - NO - it has got worse. They don't have a clue how to sort out the garbage problem and just hope it will go away on its own.

a brilliant and captivating report Roma, thanks for that, agree with almost everything you say and LOVE the 'paradise in a dustbin' ... also so agree that price doesnt necessarily mean quality, we love local restaurants and always have consistently great meals at a lot of the ones you mention (and others) at ridiculous rates!!

those pictures are shocking maxthebiker and really bring home the reality of the rubbish scandal... i notice it far more than i ever used to these days and the smell can be dire... we were on the bike the other day and as a bus passed some beer cans came flying out of the window nearly hitting us and another Goan on his bike...he pulled alongside and went crazy through the window at the offending Indians.... but this is the sort of thing they really need to start to understand and tackle you cant just throw stuff on the streets!!!! its mindless but they just dont seem to get it...

Of course i love Goa or i wouldnt be here but i note on this forum more people c/o illness when they get home ... this rubbish prob cant help... its a hazard and needs addressing ...soon!!
