Having been going to Parga for 22 years I would agree with all the comments in the previous post. All the info you need can be found on the Parga.com site

Villa Petros in Parga is very nice and clean. I just got back Sunday 30th May 2005 we had a lovely room and we had a lovely view of the mountains. Parga itself is very nice there is lots to see and the restaurants are very nice. You will have a lovely time.

going to parga town in september staying at the mara studios first time here after many other greek venues any info would be greatly appreciated

Hi. Parga is brilliant. We went last year for a week and we have booked for 2 weeks in August. There's loads to see and the town is full of great restaurants and bars. I think there is a previous thread on Parga but also try http://www.parga.com where you will find loads of info.

Parga has to be one of the most beautiful places we've been to, we stayed at Valtos and used to either walk in to town in the evenings via the castle or catch the water taxi. Wonderful tavernas and very friendly locals ,we loved it there and we drove back up to it when we stayed in Lefkas a couple of years ago. I just love the drive from Preveza airport the scenery is gorgeous!

You will love Parga.We love the place, in particular the Valtos area where you can get all the peace and quiet you want but are just a walk or a water taxi away from the buzz of the town.
There are numerous great restaurants, some on the harbour front, which are a bit pricey, and plenty more hidden in back streets of the town.
The beach at Valtos is nice but you can get taxis to more secluded beaches if that is your thing.
Like everywhere in Greece, it is more expensive than it used to be due to the introduction of the Euro but it is still great value and out of all the places we have been to in Greece, it is still our favourite.We have never had any problems on our holidays there.

Fully agree with what valtosmythos has just said, the area is lovely with lovely beaches and many excellent tavernas.

After all that bickering (and I couldn't be bothered to read all of it to be honest!) I'd like to give my opinion of Parga and my personal experience. I went in June with my boyfriend and had a lovely holiday. It was quiet (but not deserted), with some amazing restaurants, lovely sandy beaches and some of the friendliest Greeks I've ever met. Granted, its probably not as traditional as other Greek resorts, but to me it was great and a perfect balance with it being a fairly small village but enough to do!
There is definate scope for exploring, we managed to hire a boat and there were loads of secluded beaches. We went to one (can't remember the name) on a different occasion, the beach thats furthest away and it was definately the nicest.
Personally, I think June/sept time is best for Parga as you miss the crowds. Also, I probably sound like a real brit when I say this, but the fact that there aren't many British tourists, mainly tourists were dutch, german, italian...it makes it feel less touristy!
If you want a beach holiday in a pretty location with good restaurants (not too pricey) and a place to explore from, I would without a doubt recommend Parga! It really wasn't commercialised, the problem is that you will rarely find truely traditional Greece by the sea. Failing that, go to Turkey, its cheaper, less touristy and the people are great. I'm going there this year before it turns into greece!

Glad you enjoyed it in Parga. Most people who go to Parga go back there regularly. We are giving it a miss this year, just for a change, but hopefully we will be back again next year.unless we stumble across somewhere better...

Hey , Anna...As someone who lives and works in Parga, thank you for the compliments about the place...but no thanks for the Turkish plug at the end...since this site is based on people's real travel experiences, I have to share some factoids about Turkey with you. Went with my husband who is Greek, about 2 years ago (I am a Greek -American) and we were ripped off just about everywhere we went...at the airport, I was charged 100 dollars to enter because I have an American passport! (my husband payed nothing with his Greek one). Taking a cab to the Greek Patriarcheio, the cab driver short-changed us by 15 euros. At the Egyptian Spice Market, the same spices can all be found in the Athens spice market for 1/4 of the price, and the list goes on and on. I do not think the people are friendlier, nor is it cheaper for everything. The food , however, was the best I've ever eaten on vacation, and I will return for that reason as well as the exoticness. But nicer people?? Not by a long shot!

perhaps it had something to do with your Greek husband! When we were in Gumbet ( Turkey) we did a day trip to Rhodes. We had made friends with several Turkish people and when they asked what we had done that day they were not amused with our reply! No love lost there!

You are right. I don`t know what I was thinking of . I feel suitably chastised.

Once again I have to agree with my good friend Eirini! I have had one holiday in Turkey and would never go back in preference to anywhere in Greece and CERTAINLY not Parga. I think I have written enough in defence of my favourite place in Greece....suffice to say that this year will be my 15th visit over 23 years and I can't wait to get back to see all my friends in "my second home". Travelling independantly this year and going for Three weeks...roll on August 21st!

enjoying reading the info re Parga on this site, I am going there in a few days and have a couple of questions I hope any Parga expets can help with.
1. Beaches - I understand the beaches are stony/shingle, which beach has the finest shingle and is easier to get into the water.
2 . water taxis, for example to return from Valtos beach late afternoon what would be the latest water taxi back to Parga town??
3. Has anyone any idea where the Ombreta studios are?
how long would it take to walk to the Harbour?
has anyone any idea how many studios there are?
4. last but not least- if you could dine in only 1 restaaurant in Parga which one would you choose and why?

Hi, The beach at Valtos is no problem at all. It is also reasonably large so it doesn`t get too congested. We normally stay at Valtos so we often get the water taxi into town and walk back at night to work off the evening`s excesses.I think the last Water taxi back to Valtos from the pier is about 11.00 .
Our favourite restaurants are Golfo which is right at the other end of Parga and the one directly under the Castle which has superb views over the town.The two that are on the steps up the hill on the way from Valtos to town are also very good.
We very rarely have a bad meal while we are there and though we are still trying different places each time, we try not to eat too much on the front as it is a bit overpriced and gets too crowded.There are plenty of little restaurants down the side streets where you can have a quiet meal.
If you are staying in Valtos you will find that the majority of the people you meet go back there year after year.
