We booked a holiday with this company in Feb 07 for Aug 07, we tookout the holiday insurance for cancellation with them.( as £480 is a lot to loose due to unforseen circumstances). A month before departure, our dog had to havelife saving surgeryon the spinal cord. She needed 24 hour care for at least 2 months, so we could not go on our holiday. We phoned the company and told them our plight and that we had to cancel. They told us to get a letter from the vet and send that with a covering letter, and they would deal with it !
They dealt with it saying the dog was'nt covered on our policy and that there would be no refund.
I spoke to the customer sevices executive (grand title for someone who had no manners and continued to talk over me)
Everyone beware of this company, we gave enough notice for them to re-let our pitch, which there is no doubt that they have,they were rude and condescending with no interpersonal skills when dealing with the public!!
Their attitude was that they did'nt care, they had our money and did'nt honour the cancellation contract, avoid Park Resorts like the plague! We did have a camping holiday with them spring bank week this year in our caravan it aws very basic and nothing to shout home about, unfortunately we book the two holidays at the same time. Really wish we hadnt.
Our Pet insurance would have covered us for that eventuality but not our holiday insurance.
What does the insurance policy say?
Policies can be extended to cover people who fall outside the ones stated. I know because we used to have to get one written into the policy. Pets are not covered on a normal policy, but, as with unlisted relations, you can get them written in.
Patka states that her Pet Insurance would have covered such an eventuality. Do you have pet insurance and have you checked that?
Whilst you state that the customer service skills were not up to standard they were correct in their ruling if illness of pets had not been requested as a reason to cancel..

Sorry Gilly, but I've been looking at their cancellation insurance on the internet and your circumstances are not covered.
What is covered is not being able to go because of sickness, redundancy, or jury service. That's all.
Therefore it's not fair to say they didn't honour the cancellation contact because the circumstances it covers never arose.
Whether they could have been nicer about it when dealing with you I don't know as I wasn't there, but the bottom line is that Park Resorts were within their rights not to refund.
Again, sorry, and I sincerely hope your dog is OK now.
