Hi Guys,

I too got my old passport back last Monday and the courier attempted delivery of my new passport the following day. I logged onto their website and arranged delivery of it to my work on Thursday. So without the redelivery it took just under two weeks. Good turnaround IPS!

if you read back through this thread, you will find a passport is valid till the expiry date shown irrespective what age the person was when it was first issued.therefore it will run out June 09, if you intend to holiday between 01/09 and 06/09 it will need renewing 3 months before the holiday or expiry, [any unused dates up to 3 months is added to the new passport.

Hi sharon ... as Wizard says, the passport is valid until June 2009, irrespective of the fact that your son turns 16 several months before that.

However, generally passports can be renewed up to 9 months before the expiry date, with the unexpired period being transferred from the child passport to the adult passport. In this case, renewing in January when he reaches 16 may be a good time to take advantage of what might be a quieter spell at the IPS.

HI

applied for my daughters first child passport on 15th may ( check and send) with over 3 weeks until date of travel. rung passport office who said processing times were 2 weeks with check and send which i did. Now after 2 1/2 weeks nothing ( not even orignal documents ) received. did online tracker which says passport has passed first round of checks and is has been waiting examination since 22nd May. I urgently need this passport by friday. SO far not had much help from the passport office when I rang last week. Does anyone know if I can ask for an upgrade to fast track . Is it worth keeping ringing in the hope that someone is more helpful and can spped things up?. How long are first child applications taking at the moment?

Thanks for any advice

I would ring the passport office back and tell them about what you have read on the online tracker and ask them what is the information that they need as ypou have heard nothing from them.

This way they HAVE to look for your application and not just fob you off.

Also stress that you need the passport urgently.

If you get no joy from the person dealing with you on the phone, make sure you take a note of their name and then ask to speak to their superior officer.

Keep your cool, remain polite, but keep doing that until you get someone who deals with your enquiry to your satisfaction. ( That worked for me a few years ago - different enquiry but I needed to chase up an application. )

Best of luck. I hope you get sorted.

seems a bit of a strange question but are you allowed to photocopy your passport?

when traveling last year with my boyfr one of us would have the orginal documents, tickets, passports etc, and the other would have photocopies.

but a friend said this is illegal?

No, it's not illegal to photocopy a passport. It is often recommended that you photocopy your passport and keep this copy separate from the original, in case it is lost or stolen.
If you go to open a new bank account, the staff will photocopy your passport for indentification purposes.
A few years ago, when buying my house, my solicitor had to photocopy my passport, again for indentification.
I guess the fact that a solicitor did this, is a pretty sure bet that its not illegal!!

Taking colour photocopies of a passport can be illegal.

It's a big can of worms but nothing to be worried about if done for the right reasons.

Whether it's illegal or not, the 'film' over the photo in a passport turns you into a Klingon when you photocopy it! I assume that's the whole point of it and it's a security measure. My passport photo was pretty awful in the first place - the photocopy of it is an absolute horror :yikes

Hi, Can anyone please tell me if you are travelling to Austria at end of July and passport expires end October would it still be valid?
Reply
As an official entry or immigration requirement for Austria, your passport requires to be valid for the duration of your stay in the country. However, you would just need to check that you are not travelling with one of those airlines or tour operators which stipulates a minimum 6 month passport validity requirement for all destinations.

Many thanks for your quick reply. It's for my mum who is travelling by coach and ferry. Would it be possible that the coach tour company have their own rules which she would have to abide by?

It is possible, so it would be best just to check with them for peace of mind. Some companies find it easier to stipulate the same minimum passport validity requirement for all destinations, rather than to advise clients on the varying entry/immigration requirements around the world and allow them to just comply with the specific requirement of the country concerned. That is perhaps a less likely situation with a coach tour firm which specialises in trips within Europe, but worth checking just to make sure.

I fly to Faro on Tuesday 1st july and I have only just realised that my passport expires in jan 2009, which is just about 6 months away.
How many months has there got to be left on your passport for Portugal ? as I know some countries are 9 months.
I hope 6 months is going to be ok

You will be fine, EU law states that to travel between member states your passport need only be valid for the length of your trip. Some tour operators make their own rules but you will be OK as your passport has a full six months validity on your departure date. Enjoy your holiday.
