Hello All,
An update as promised.
Today, I have spoken to the company that were looking at the possibility of supplying a flight to Bodrum during the winter. Sadly, they are not going to be able to provide flights this winter, but, they are looking at starting flights in March 2006 and also flights for the winter of 2006/2007. So not all bad news.
I know this is going to be a big disappointment to everyone, including myself, but to think that we only started the petition/campaign in March this year, and we have a promise of flights to Bodrum for next winter, and we do have a company that is going to be flying weekly to Dalaman, from Gatwick and Manchester. So I do think we have achieved a lot, in a short time. Though, not all of our goals have been reached as quickly as we would have liked.
Many of you may be aware of the companies that are selling the flights to Dalaman, but I will give you their details.
Firstly http://www.h4u.co.uk are the company that initiated the Dalaman flights, and are prepared to take the risk of providing these flights. Anyone wanting prices for long stays, flights from Turkey to the UK, you will need to ring them, as their web site does not have the facility to price these flights.
Another company selling these flights is http://www.customflights.co.uk but they do buy their seats from h4u, so compare prices.
For those who wish to book with a company in Turkey, Yabanci Services have these flights for sale, you can email them at tickets@yabanci.com who will be happy to quote you prices for the flights, and you will know you have a company in Turkey that can issue you your tickets.
Also h4u are offering transfers at the following prices
Dalaman to Bodrum £22 per person each way.
Dalaman to Altinkum £30 per person each way.
I am going to contact a friend of mine who runs a transfer service, and owns coaches, mini buses and people carriers to see if he can do these transfers any cheaper. So if anyone is interested in knowing more about this, let me know. Obviously it will depend on numbers etc. But I am am hoping it will be cheaper than the prices quoted. And I am sure he would be willing to cover other destinations.
If anyone knows other people that would also benefit from this information, then please pass this information on. The more people that know the better, and if the Dalaman flights are a success, other companies will become interested.
If you have any questions, please p.m. or email me, and I will try and answer them. Hopefully I have covered all the information.
Joanne
There must be many like me who don't own homes and aren't strictly tourists wqho want these flights.
Iwant to go to Turkey during the winter months to seemy second 'family' but am seriously restricted due to the cost and availability of flights.
With 2 children to take and myself the cost is crippling, being on my own financially I would welcome more flights year round and obviously this would bring the cost down eventually.
I miss my 'family' desparately both in winter and summer!
Have tried all sorts of ways to make it cheaper so I can see them more often. Even considered moving permanently to Turkey, however selling up would not give me enough to buy and live on income left over without some work.
So best route (sorry for the pun) is to have more flights during winter at cheaper cost, may it come sooner rather than later.
so would love to support you jo and book the flights as manchester would be much better for me but no better on my pocket işs the dıfferance of going to see my family once or twice really.
good luck just hope the airlines dont price themselves out of doing this flight.
sarah
The prices over the Christmas and New Year are higher, but I found that the other dates a return was coming up at £183. That was with http://www.customflights.co.uk who buy their flights from http://www.h4u.co.uk
Also, Cyprus Turkish Airlines are flying every Sunday from Dalaman to Stanstead so this is an additional flight, so hopefully the prices will become more competative. I know I normally paid £270 for a flight at Xmas, with Turkish Airlines, via Istanbul to Dalaman. They may be cheaper at other times.
Of course, everyone has to book the flights that are right for them, at the prices that are right. Everyone wants value for money, I would expect anyone to book the deal/flights that are best suited to them.
Jo

have heard today that onur aır and h4u have cancelled the flights between certaın perıods ın dec - jan and jan - feb.
havent got exact dates here with me know but will get them and post up tommorrow
glad i booked through cyprus turkish airlines now and payed a 100 pound less
I just checked ot the flights for 4th November - £120 return...... Bargain id say
outside of christmas and new year they are a bargain but i was quoted 286 pounds for a 3 week return from dalaman over christmas and new year. booked with cyprus turkish airlines for same time and only paying 185. so thats a bargain for me. today a friend who was going at same time with h4u was advised they have cancelled her flight but shes pleased ın the end because will be cheaper for her.
shpuld i need to go back any other time during the winter i wouldnt hesitate to check h4u out
Nice to see you back online - Your input has been missed over the summer
I hadnt seen your post about the cancellations- looks like we posted almost the same time. I was checking prices for a customer and couldnt believe how cheap they come out at.
Regarding the price increases at xmas - its to be expected i suppose - the same way they raise prices at easter/school hols
Wonder if Jo has heard from them about the cancellations?? It will be really sad if they are pulling it all together

time has been extremely lacking this summer, just cant seem to split myself but i have missed the forum, have dropped in a few times.
sorry mods i know off topic
i do expect a price increase but thats silly cyprus turk aır are there only competitors so would expect them to be a bit more competative plus for xmas and new year cyprus turk air have better flying days.
its shame if they canx, i know a few bars and restuarants that were planning to stay open because of these flights and hotels. İts takes so much to convince them to extend the season then they go and cancel 2 of the only 3 flights into dalaman and its a large chunk of weeks there cancelling.

Last time I spoke to her, the bookings were quite slow for dates outside Christmas and New Year, though there was no mention of cancellations.
As soon as I get a reply I will let everyone know.
When this company put on these flights, there was no competition, and I suppose the fact that Christmas and New Year were going to be in higher demand, they put a higher price on the flights, to make up for the losses at other dates.
I expect to get a reply tomorrow, and I will post the reply. I hope these flights are not cancelled, but there are still so many people that are unaware that there are winter flights, it would be a shame to lose them.
Jo
The dates they have had to cancel are as follows
25th Nov;
2nd Dec;
9th Dec;
13th Jan;
20th Jan;
27th Jan;
3rd Feb.
It is a terrible shame that these flights have been cancelled, and sadly the demand was not there, many of the prices were very reasonable from £129 for a return flight on certain dates. Yes, Christmas and New Year are more expensive, but are still in line with Turkish Airlines prices, though Cyprus Turkish Airlines are coming up with competative prices.
But as anyone will realise, if the bookings are not there, then sadly its not going to be viable for them to run the flights. We all knew that if they were not used we were going to lose them. Which is now what has happened on certain dates.
There are still so many people that did not realise there were flights. Lets hope we dont lose all of the flights during the winter months, it would be a terrible shame.
Jo

Hi,
Seem İ didnt miss the point at all then - there are not enough people living in the area to support the commercial viability.
I feel sorry for the people that have booked their flights only to now have them cancelled.
Since the flights have been cancelled, I have received loads of emails from people stating, that they had intended on using the flights on dates that have been cancelled but had not yet booked. A shame, as now they have been lost.
I suppose the huge demand around Xmas and New Year, is the reasoning behind, some of the dates before and after this time being cancelled. I just hope that the other dates are supported and used. As, they are very reasonable.

Hello all, Holidays 4 U are suppose to be doing flights all winter to Dalaman from Manchester & Gatwick, but have heard through the Grapevine they've messed up big time with it. Don't know if they are carrying on with flights now or not. Also i have been told that Thomas Cook are doing flights all season. Will let you know if i hear any changes.
I believe Thomas Cook are flying into Dalaman until around the 22nd November, unless they have decided to extend their flying dates, to compete with the other companies.
Jo
