I travelled form tenerfie last week, there were no hold up at checkin either and it is normal practice for passports to be scanned now and that did hold us up....

we go to Costa del sol on 22nd of July. Do I need to inform anyone with our passport no's or will it be done at check in?

Hi Chivas ... you could check your airline or tour operator website to see if a facility is available to collect the information in advance. If not, it will be collected at check in.

ryan air have just announced this.

Just spoke with XL regarding this - apparently Manchester Airport is equipped with machines that read the information on your passport so a quick scan of the newer passports collates the information

we are travelling to tenerife in feb. my husband is Turkish but has a valid schengen visa to travel to spain. do you think this will cause problems. We are booked with British airways and I have just sumitted all out passanger information thats req on their website.

Have booked with EZY Edinburgh/Madrid and completed passport details / numbers etc . Tried to print off relevant page to show other passengers for independent checking , but print out did not actually show passport number . Is this to do with identity fraud etc ?
Will a passenger be rejected if there is even one digit wrong in passport number but name.date of birth etc correspond ?

I booked a return flight for a relative from EDI/AGP . Out with Globespan , back with Ryanair .
Globespan site did not ask for API , is this because site knows she has flown with them before /
Ryanair to my surprise asked for API coming back from Malaga , why ? Banner clearly infers it's in the other direction only

I believe the API is required for flying in Spanish airspace, therefore I presume its irrelevant whether you are leaving or arriving in spain. Globespan will probably take the information at check-in (this has happened for me with several other airlines), however Ryanair ask for it on-line. I guess this is to help keep costs down as you submit it yourself.

Not sure if it applies to all Ryanair flights, but the last time I used them to fly to spain, anyone who had not provided it on-line had to provide it to the service desk, which meant queueing twice, as they didn't take it at the check-in desks. Some people didn't bother, and as a result, a list of at least 20 names were read out on the plane, and we couldn't take off until all of them had provided the info to the cabin staff. It took that long, we missed our take off slot, although thankfully another was available pretty quickly.

also my dad is going lanzarote in june,but he wasnt asked to do the api thing,he booked through alpha rooms and flying with monarch,but there isnt anything on the alpharooms website about this api.

API is Advanced Passenger Information. This is a requirement for all passengers travelling to Spain. It's a security measure so the Spanish authorites can check who's travelling in to the country by air prior to them arriving. Details of what it's all about are on the DfT's website.

I'm flying to Spain on Friday with Ryanair and have submitted our advance passport information online as we're required to do.

Unfortunately I think I've entered the wrong expiry date for one of the passports. The system won't allow me to go back in and change any details or even look at what I've entered.

Has anyone ever done this or know if it will be a problem either at the airport or when we arrive in Spain?

Hi, I have the same problem as stanley57: We entered the API data but one of the passport numbers entered had a digit wrong. The Ryanair website won't let me change it as I've already completed online check-in. Stanley, did you manage to travel with the incorrect passport number entered in API?

UPDATE: Contacted Ryanair reservations line and they sorted it out in a 5 minute phone call. Phew!

You can also make this change at the Ryanair 'support' desk (not checkin) in the UK airport you are flying from. The downside is you may have to queue and there was no cost to do this.

We are flying to Majorca at the end of May with Thomson. We have not been asked to submit API. Is this something that is done at the checkout?

In my experience I've only ever had to give the advanced information when going diy. When we did a package to Spain this Easter we were not asked for the information at all. I'm not sure why this is?

caroleyuk, most airlines collect it when you check in at the airport. I didn't have to give it prior to check in when I flew with Thomson's, however, I've had to submit it on-line with Ryanair and Easyjet.

As long as its submitted prior to you entering Spanish "airspace" I think you are ok, so there will be loads of time after check in for it to go through.

Think my ocd symptoms have come back. Had a terrible thought that I have entered our passport numbers wrong and feel a great need to recheck that they are correct. However, just tried to check on ryanair site but it wont let me look (just says the info has been entered). What will happen and will I still be able to fly if Ive entered the wrong numbers
