Hi shellyd
It all depends what type of room you have booked, - a twin 4 or a double four, but on the whole they are about the same as the beach club - might even been a bit bigger.
On the subject of the thomsons reps, they are probably the exception to the rule, as in the past we have found them to be ok. Our biggest gripe was with 'jumping johnny' who seemed to decide which kids were going to win prizes before the games had even started, - e.g musical statues. If a kid he didn't want to win looked like winning he would go and prod them so as they moved or wait until they blinked then disqualify them. Don't forget some of these kids are only 3 or 4 years old and we actually saw somw in tears.
In our view the bloke's a complete d***head and we've written to thomsons to tell them.
Anyway don't let this put you off if you are going soon, as the reps are only a small part of your holiday.

Hi joanmc :wave

We are going on 8th August for two weeks so we will be there around the same time as you. It's our first time there but I've been hanging around this thread since I booked the holiday last year. Yes, you can use all three hotels in the chain - the Galeon, the Beach Club and the Hotel Cartago, from what I'm told there's a Mexican restaurant, a Chinese and a Tapas bar as well as the hotel's own buffet restaurants in each hotel, several bars, and a seperate pool in each hotel, and also boats on the beach :D See you there in 3 weeks

Won't spoil boogie nights for you by answering the post before last. All I will say is don't miss it.
I think there is entertainment at the Galeon but never been up there in the evenings. There are always a lot of people from the Galeon down at the beach club in the evenings, so maybe the entertainment up there isn't so good, but don't really know.

Hi all,

We're thinking of going here next May. We're going with my inlaws and our 2 boys who will be aged 6 and 2 when we go.

I've been reading the reviews and they are really mixed. Most of them are pretty good, I think.

I have a question, though. What is the difference between the Hotel and the Beach Club? Is one better than the other? Is one lower than the other? Is one bigger than the other? etc.

Which one is best in your opinions?

We are going to try and book it as early as possible, so we can get free child places, and will probably be going either half term week, or the week before.

Cheers for any answer. :D

Hi All,
Some advice needed!!

Okay - been looking at the reviews & am 95% ready to book the San Miguel Hotel but need some questions answering first

The holiday is through Portland Direct and I'm being quoted £1927 for a twin room (2 adults & 2 kids) and £2011 for a double (2 adults & 2 kids)
Please can anyone tell me which would be the best to go for size wise?

Also, does the hotel have a games room / arcade games for the kids (my son loves them)

How long is the airport transfer?

Has the food really dropped in quality this year?

Thanks in advance x

HI
Am travelling to san miguel Hotel, in 6 days, Yippee, understand no cash machines in resort, are there safes if we take cash or are travellers cheques ok ? have had experience of poor exchange rate with these in the past. can anyone offer advise?

Hi selfey :D
We are off to the San Miguel two weeks tomorrow - might see you there if you're there for a fortnight. I am taking cash for bits and bobs (souvenirs, after-hours drinks etc) and my plastic to pay for excursions. Haven't used travellers cheques for years, and with the hotel being all-inclusive in a tiny resort I can't see us needing much cash. No doubt we'll find a cash machine if we need one while we're off on a day trip out somewhere.

The twin rooms are bigger than the double rooms, and most of them have a partition wall in them separating two beds from the other two. In my opinion the twin rooms are much better and you are lucky to be offered one as they are like gold dust.
There is a small games arcade in the beach club and this year they have installed some extra pcs with games consoles in the hotel.
Airport transfer is 30 - 40 minutes depending on how many drop offs you do on the way. Hotel is always the last drop off.
Personally I thought the food wasn't as good as last year but it is still fine -normal AI fare.
Hope this helps,
Mick.

I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW LUCKY I'VE JUST BEEN!! :P

Waiting to hear back from you about the hotel - (thanks for the replies) so I just went back on the Portland site to check that the twin rooms are available.

They are now offering the San Miguel Hotel AND the San Miguel Beach club.

PRICES HAVE DROPPED BY NEARLY £300 SINCE I LOOKED LAST NIGHT!!!

I'm so glad I didn't book last night.

Okay - new question now then - which is better? The Hotel or the Beach Club??

Hi - It will be 16th June 2008

Have you been before? Do you know if its better to book into the Hotel or the beach club?
Reply
no ive not been before, all i no is the hotel is 3* and beach club 2* don,t know why though.i think i read somewhere the beach club rooms are a bit bigger.

Been to the hotel for the last two years. We've booked the beach club for next year.
If you have young kids then i think the beach club would be better for you.

I just looked at Portland and the price is fantastic but...........my daughter is 16 and the child prices are up to 12 with Portland yet with Thomson (same company) it is 16!!

The price is over £700 more with Thomson for same time etc

What the difference with the hotel & the beach club? Are the beach club apartment style? Where are all the amenities - in the hotel or the beach club?
I see the beach club only has 2 stars - that puts me off a bit - what are the rooms like?

Thanks 4 that, may see you there, my Hubby will be one of the biggest there so cant miss us !
