I've moved discussions about the withdrawal of postal visa applications from London to here as I realise this is an important topic you want to discuss. Please keep queries though to this thread.

Here is a link to list of visa surgeries around the country

http://www.hcilondon.net/visa/visa-surgeries-schedule-07.html

The nearest one to me is in Nottingham, so if Birmingham decides to follow suit and stop doing postal applications its only about 35 miles

I plan to ring about two months before my travel date to make sure they are still happening.

What is a concern to me is the possible turn-round time for postal applications to Birmingham.

When we return from Bali at the end of September we will have just over 7 weeks to obtain our Indian visa before we go to Goa.

I've read through a lot of the Visa thread and I'm just not convinced that the Consulate General of India office in Birmingham could manage that - and that's before they had potentially all the HCI London workload.

So I'm in a quandary whether to risk it or try at one of the surgeries. :hmmm :shrug

Ho Hum.

A quick word of advice for anyone planning to use the Liverpool surgery, the place opens at approx 7-30am so it would be in your best interests to get there and collect a ticket so you will be one of the 1st to be seen when the officials arrive (which is not until 9-30 -10-00) It is easy for me to go early as I live 5mins away, so I go collect my ticket, go home for a couple of hours and rtn about 9-15. They do provide refreshments for anyone waiting.... hope this helps...Keith
PS
Most people are'nt aware the place opens early and everybody tends to arrive about 8-30ish

Although the visa form has the london address on the top is it still ok to post it off to birmingham.

We will need our passport for italy in sept do you think if we send for the visa now we will get it back in time i think its going to be to late to do it when we get back from italy.

YESTERDAY I E-MAILED THE BIRMINGHAM CONSULATE TO ASK IF THEY WOULD STILL PROCESS POSTAL APPLICATIONS.
the answer is, they wil only do applications from scotland as this is their jurisdiction.

Re Bob - God knows where this leaves us as we live in Cumbria and it's too far to travel to surgeries [won't be going again]

My first time oap, so I want to make every effort I can but its blinking miles to any surgery.

So if Birmingham are only accepting Scottish application, what about Edinburgh?

If they say...Scotish only, then we're buggered!! (so to speak)

What do we do then?

Hiya Spinner, I was going to send mine to Edinburgh but last week somebody on here said they were only accepting Scottish applications. If this is the case - then it means no one in England can get a postal application other than London TA's who won't do it unless your holiday is booked through them. Thin k I'll put my head in the gas oven !!!!!!!!!!! Don't know what to do. Just done my form last night ready to post to Birmingham. Keep you posted.

as i say,you will have to use a courier service or on of their designated travel agents as a intermediery. go back a couple of pages and you will find on one of my posts, an agent who charges £10 for the service.

Yes its getting very stressful now. I have been really annoyed about it and am looking for another holiday somewhere else even though we have already booked for January for Goa. I dont know why I am wasting my time looking because I know in my heart of hearts that it will be Goa as usual.

This is just rediculous. I live in South Wales and have no hope of attending a surgery. Maybe I will just take a chance and send a postal application to Birmingham and see what happens!

Like you Rogietlegs I live in South Wales. Our nearest visa surgery is Gloucester and guess what........ they held their surgery in June. We have always posted our applications to London with no problems. Thinking of driving up to Birmingham to get ours. :(

we used a courier srevice last year so we could send for them at the last minute without worrying about postal delays we did'nt have any problems

I called Birmingham last week and they said they would accept postal applications regardless of your address.
