I have just been on the Indian Consulate site, and it states that visas can be obtained from the London High Commission, where as before they stated that you have to go through the agencies, there is nothing about that on there now.
I have emailed them to ask if they are now accepting postal applications, but so far no answer, does any one know what is going on?
Have they changed there minds already?
but if you go into High Commision of India + London...there's still the Press Release saying they are no longer doing postal applications
So, although the press release is still on the front page of the website you can obtain full details of applying by post to London via the telephone number 09068 444544 - and for those who have in the past applied by post, the procedure for applying was exactly the same.
Seems to me that you can apply by post.
If you go into the Visa section it also says you can apply by post to London.
When you download the application form from the HCI, it also gives instructions for postal applications.
Seems to me that you can apply by post.
Your experience of contacting them by phone, plus the other instances I've pointed out would most certainly indicate that they are still accepting postal applications from London.
But.....
knowing how the Indian government works (The mills of God may grind slowly but this organisation makes them seem positively speedy ), I would think that the truth is that they either just haven't got round to amending the details on their website or (more likely) they've totally forgotten about it.
Polly
I have the same apprehension Polly, but the telephone line is very detailed indeed.
The other thought that goes through my mind is that this is just a ploy to cut down the number of postal applications
We need a guinea pig. someone who can send their application to London!
Was you offering Miccie
Have they done another "press release"? I wish they'd make their flippin minds up Not sure if I'd trust them now - they might change their minds again No emoticon available for a "head wobble" but this is no doubt what they do when you phone them - does this mean "yes" or does it mean "no" I feel another "head wobble" happening
I've been trying to telephone but they are constantly engaged - there is so much conflicting on their website and information telephone line. Under General Information on the visa section there is still a banner which takes you to the press release, but why does the phone line still state you can apply by post......... think I'm going to wander off to lie down now
The HCI London can be contacted on 02078368484 if you press option 0 you will go through to a person. I do not think 0 is an option but it is the default for most switchboards.
I tried all afternoon yesterday to get through, it was constantly engaged
I had no problem the day before - you will get through if you keep trying. Note today you will not get an answer.

Did you clarify the position when you spoke with them
I called to get info about a one year T visa. I spoke to the 'First Visa Officer!'
and will you be going to the Embassy or using an agency?
The High Commission in London where he is based....
just been in contact with PUJA TRAVEL. I can now tell you they will get your visa's processed for a flat fee of £10. you need to send them £40 and you can send it by CHEQUE.
it is up to you wether or not you you use recorded delivery. if you send a recorded delivery envelope they will use it to send your passports back. otherwise they will send it back by normal post at no extra cost.
I have looked at most of the other options, and am pretty sure this is about the best.
