The same thing happened to us, we all walked down it as i got to the bottom and jumped off it started going upwards and mum and dad nearly landed at the bottom  I had to jump back on and run up quickly to stop them fallling.

The whole airport is an accident waiting to happen with it's inadequate lighting in many area's, slippy floors, odd escalators, many, many things :(

i know we tried to stop people doing it too and they did put a no entry sign at the top of the stairs which was ignored sometimes, but i think unless they sort this out theres could be a very serious accident

Same last week, and its when the first person goes off at the bottom, triggers the sensor and everyone else then is going backwards. I know, I was one of the backward ones
Long walk to the other side to get the escalator that goes both ways.

 Well.. I Think I Got Off Lightly. When We Got Off The Plane and We Were Going To Get Our Cases The Ones To Get There Weren't On. So You Had To Walk Down Them, They Were So Steep and With a Hand Luggage Bag On One Side and Carrying A Little Pully Suitcase Its Going To Be Awkward...I Ended Up Scraping The Back Of The Leg and I Still Have The Teeth Marks On My Leg.

We witnessed a near accident on escalators in the arrivals hall at Dalaman last week.

As people were going up to the Visa & Customs area a very large queue was building up in front of the Visa desks which then went straight back accross the exit of the escalator thus blocking the exit of the (moving) escalator.

This almost caused a nasty pile up at the top as more and more people surged off the top of the escalator. As we came up the escalator, an elderly couple in front of me just couldn't push their way through the Visa queue blocking their path, and me and my young daughter were being pushed from other people coming up behind us which almost resulted in us all end up in a heap on the floor. It was very frightening - especially for the elderly couple and my young daughter.

What got me was that there were absolutely no airport staff around marshalling or directing people where to go or stand...it was left to the people off the plane to sort out where to go, where to queue etc etc

there will always be fools who can't use them safely

I think jdybnsn meant problem was with people queing for visa's NOT the people using the escalators Denny

Excuse me!!!! How rude are you, my parents are 67 and 82 and certainly NOT fools.

It's the inadequate signage and information supplied by Dalaman Airport to blame.

Yes it was the 'fools' queuing across the exit of the escalator .......in the absence of any 'idiot ' airport staff, or signage directing them not to.

I think most of us are quite capable of using the escalator correctly ....even my young daughter, and the poor elderly people in front of us !!!!

Oh god, something else for me to be wary of
Is the aiport quicker now when you arrive? getting through visa, passport control etc....

i cant visualise the escalator from arrivals, i am sure we walked off plane through the tunnel and then into arrivals hall ,that seemed an age to cross to get to visa control and passport check, then we went down the escalator to baggage ,the escalator that was causing problems is situated in departures leading up to the food courts, this is now sign posted with a warning sign warning you not to go down as they are for going up only. this is the escalator people are refering to in orignal posting .xxx jan

Ever since June 29th 2006 this Airport escalator has had big big problems with the same issues, The only way to solve this problem is tell the Airline you flew out of Dalaman with, That way they will get in touch with the Airport terminal management to sort out this problem, Anyone who has seen problems or has had Problems I urge you to contact the Airline or your Travel agent.
