Some time ago there was a reply giving actual time scales to book cheapest charter flights. Something like 25 - 41 days before flights (or it could be any other days). I have tried to find the thread but without any success.
Does anybody remember where it was? Want to book flights for next summer's holidays and don't want to book too early or late.

Moved to flights forum.
It's all about demand and supply. When there are plenty of seats available, ie when the flight first goes on sale, charter tickets tend to be at full price. As time passes, the price will fluctuate depending on how they are selling. If they are selling fast, then they price will stay high. If they are selling slowly, then the price will fall. It's all economics and market forces. Normally, prices are at there lowest 2 - 3 months prior to the departure date, but it all depends on how they are selling. Bear in mind the longer you leave it, the more risk there is of flights becoming full and you being dissapointed.
The best thing to do is keep checking the flight and when it reaches a price you are happy to pay, book it. The trick is not to look again afterwards in case they've got cheaper! As long as you're happy with the price you've paid and they are the flights you want, that's all that matters.

Thanks for replies, Mark and Darren. Will look a couple of months before we want to go.
I booked a Thomas Cook flight with Travel Republic for 24th February from Stansted to Monastir some time ago for £170 which I thought wasn't too bad. Last week I got notification from Cheap Flights listing flights on the same route for the next few months and it showed this flight at £124 which, when I followed it through, finished up at £114. I didn't set out to check, honestly Darren, but it popped up in my in-box, so what's a girl to do. I can live with this, but as I travel alone and am reasonably flexible it has taught me to take a chance next time and wait to book later.
