My friend has borrowed a samsonite suitcase to take with him on Goa. On the way back, he notice the lock was completely broken and the suitcase was held together by a couple of plastic strips/ bands. I believe some Samsonite have at least a 10year warranty. However, the shop assistant said it can only be repaired if my friend had obtained a certificate from the Goan customs to prove that the have damaged it.
Has anyone had any similar incidents?
No damage but at security they bind them
Have never had a problem with suitcases, I use the plastic type cable ties through the zip tabs and they have always been intact on retrieving the case, just take a spare for the journey back or a few if you want to keep things secure in your case while it's in the hotel room, at least it's easy to tell if it's been tampered with as the only way to remove is to cut it off or take the whole case (which would be a bit harder to explain!!)
I can second that ilovegoa we always use the plastic cable ties on our suitcases and we've never (up to yet) had any problems..only problem we have is getting them off when we get there has you are'nt allowed scissors in your hand luggage we normally have to ask at the reception desk at our hotel..
When they turned up 3 days later - all the locks had been burst open by customs.
The real secret if if you have a smaller outside pocket on your case, is to slip a pair of scissors into there wrapped up in kitchen paper and popped into a plastic bag, it makes them legal to carry!
ilovegoa you made me laugh thats what my hubby does..
