Surely the topic is about smoking in Turkey not the UK, ie not to help passive smokers but to stopsmoking.

Presumably people wouldn't visit & start flauting other laws, so why should they do so with this one. Perhaps Turkey is worried about the detrimental effect smoking is having on its nations health, for both smokers and passive smokers & is trying to do something about it.

I don't accept the argument that just because one policeman is seem smoking that gives all tourists carte blanche to ignore the new rules.

Del , are you on a wind up ? you say tolerance is a good mindset to cultivate and in the SAME thread , say if you cant do what you want then whats the point in going!

I am actually laughing mate , cheers :D

Thats right,
if I cannot do what I want to do because of someone elses intolerance, then I will excercise my right to choose not to go.
Or are you suggesting that , even though I cannot do the things on holiday that I like to do , I should go and spend my cash there anyway?

I think the only thing i`ll suggest at this point is that we both get back on topic or not at all

other than.........you say its intolerant for people to not let a smoker smoke , maybe so , but its a fact that if someone chooses to be intolerant over passive smoking and all that can entail then they sit firmly in the morally correct camp

Selfish is puffing your smoke at me when I do not choose to smoke. No one is saying do not smoke! but others want to enjoy their holiday to!
I fear it will just be like here, the entrance to every pub has people smoking so you still cannot escape it if you want to get in the pub etc!!!
Passive smoke kills!! The Antalya smoke room was overflowing and I for one will be glad not to have to pass it to get to the ladies room in future!!
In reality in Turkey I think it will be harder to enforce, but if all those who feel bitter about it stop going it will be bars ,hotels and restaurants that suffer which would be a shame!!They are only doing what their goverment has said they must do!!
If you can travel 4 hours to get there without a cigarette surely you can manage a couple of hours in an evening!

Of course it will be same as here with people smoking near the doors!
But we could ban that also, and on the beach , the roadway the pavements etc etc etc.
Intolerance??????????????????
What do you people want........... go on , come out and say it!!! .........a total ban?

Me , I just want to live my life in the way I choose, I think that its called Freedom of choice.
If you don't choose to eat in the same restaurants as me .......... fine, eat elsewhere, there is plenty of choice.
But no. YOU want the right to have YOUR preference in EVERY restaurant.

Try tolerance, I do.

Smokers and non- smokers will never agree on the subject. It would be a shame for both camps if the topic got locked because we can't and will never agree. We will then lose the information that we come on for.

I'm not sure if that's true Margaret. I'm a non smoker and don't really have any problem with people smoking as long as they do it in the places that are provided for it. At the end of the day its a persons perogative to smoke if they wish to do so.

I am just not keen on people flauting other country's laws, which have presumably been brough in to benefit the population of that Country. It seems disrespectful.

To chose to visit a country because it's easier to smoke there than your own just seems stupid and shallow and to say you will no longer visit because of it's trying to change it's peoples attitude to smoking seems churlish.

same could be said for the people that choose amsterdam for a bit of wacki bacci why not i'm a non smoker it dosenot bother me there are far greater threats to health than smoking like carbon monoxide which comes from cars etc so please leave people that smoke to enjoy there passion as was said there are plenty of places for non smokers

Well, if you are referring to my posts.

1 I never said anything about visiting turkey cos it is easier to smoke there. I have been going to turkey as a smoker and non smoker

2 How is it churlish? I am excercising my freedom to spend my time and money in a place that suits me. If a country alters its laws and no longer suits me then I am free to choose not to go.

3 If Turkey were to become a Muslim state (religious) and ban alcohol , would you say the same of people who drink and chose not to go?

My final comment on this thread (you can all breath a sigh of relief).

My holidays are paid for with my money and are my using up part of my life expectancy.
I reserve the right to travel to any country that will allow me in and that fulfills my requirements, I also reserve the right not to travel to a country that doesn't and owe no allegiance to any holiday destination no matter how much I have enjoyed it in the past.

I am a CUSTOMER not a visitor.

ps Maverick seems like a very nice person!!

I am a smoker,(my husband is not) I am neither stupid or shallow. Nor am I inconsiderately blowing smoke on other holiday makers, when in a restaurant, be it indoor or out I would not be seated next to families for example. I do not smoke in my own home, only outside. I do the same on holiday out of respect for other people. I enjoy a cigarette with a nice glass of wine in the evening, where is the problem with that? I work hard all year round to get away from this nanny state where the next rule will be we can't drink either. Just a thought, how are they planning on implementing this no smoking rule with the Russians/eastern europeans?

perhaps the russians will be a lot more strict with the smoking ban.... yay, lets send all the non smokers to russia! :rofl

before i cause a mass "ruffle of feathers" im only joking...

like minione, i also enjoy a ciggie with a pint, even more enjoyable after a meal, but i would never sit and blow my smoke at other people wether they were smokers or not... all it takes is a little consideration... on our part! ;)

Claire seems nice too!
Yes it's about consideration and tolerance. I think if you have definite rules and designated areas you will have less of a problem. It would for example be a good idea to say no smoking around the kiddies pool and maybe half the area around the main pool could be set aside for smokers(preferably opposite end of pool) just in case there are people like Dan in your hotel. I know I wouldn't want him or the rest of the anti smoking brigade giving me the evils while I'm enjoying my ciggie from the comfort of my lounger that I've paid very good money for
