I posted that specifically for you!!

Go for it! You will never get the chance to stay at the Venetian at that price again. There will always be offers for the MGM.

I have stayed at both and I would opt for the Venetian just because it's the Venetian.

My Wife wants to stick to the MGM, and as I love the hotel so much who am I to argue? :tup :tup

I can't believe the value in Vegas during that week though. Sure it will be 140degrees (sic) but at least the rooms are cheap!!!! :rofl I'll have to hope there are similar rates available for the Venetian next time we head to Vegas.

Thanks for posting the tip though Luci. I just looked at my email and I received it through also.

Hi

I really really can't believe your wife doesn't want to switch to Venetian given the price. I wish those were the rates for my dates!!!

Hi Lesley,

I think there are a couple of things that are behind the thinking of not taking up that great rate at the Venetian. Firstly, we are trying to do the accommodation on a budget this year to not only give us a bit more spending money, but also save money because we are trying to plan home improvements and a 10th Wedding Anniversary holiday for next year. :tup

Secondly, and I do agree with my Wife on this, we do spend most of our time down the South Strip area. We find we enjoy gambling at the MGM, NYNY, Excal and Luxor over most other casinos on the strip, and I guess we would be spending a lot of time getting to and from that area. In fairness, we have had zero reward from gambling at any of the top end casinos, whereas we have always done very well at the above properties. Maybe it's a blind loyalty thing, but the $25 dining credit and 2 x free drinks is also a nice little bonus.

It is hard to walk away from rates as good as that at a property like the Venetian though. Maybe next time. Let's see how the MGM treats us. ;)

Wow, I don't suppose they'll carry on those type of rates further into September...........at the moment they have Sept. 1st to the 4th for $99..98..98..98 - four nights at the Venetian for a little over £200! You can hardly get the Imperial Palace for that!!

Someone on another forum (I won't mention names) got the MGM for Sun-Thurs in August for $49 a night. That wouldn't even buy you a super saver Travelodge room in the UK!!! :tongue :tongue

I tried so hard to find those rates but the best I could do was $69. Roll on 7 weeks today.

Fair point about Venetian/MGM. We're more swayed towards north strip, so I have the same concerns about staying at MGM as it's too far south for me (despite a celebrity spa suite being $139 and $149 for my dates and looking rather nice!).

TeeCee - I do hope it continues. I checked their recent codes to see if I could see a pattern, and even tried possible next in the pattern to see if there were any offers but it didn't work! Ah well. I guess I really need to be patient! Palazzo has come down to $219 for my dates though and makes me actually think about it. The pools look strange though - shallow end has loungers in it!

I really can't decide at all!

Although we will not be taking up that offer of staying at the Venetian we are looking forward to trying the Grand Lux Cafe in either of the locations (Venetian/Palazzo) after we see Mystere at T.I. We always head to the Cheesecake Factory wherever there is one in the USA, but this year in Vegas we agreed we would eat for 5 nights in places we haven't eaten before in Vegas. Easy to get around the horror of not eating at the Cheesecake by eating at another of their restaurants. :tup

I don't tend to class the Venetian as North Strip. North Strip to me is anything north of Wynn and an area I really don't have a great deal of time for. In fact the longest I have spent in that area is queueing to sign up for the Sahara's players card just to get the $10 free slot play last year!!! :rofl

It's south strip for us again in August, but I think we might be ready for a change to the Mid strip on our next visit.

I would opt for the Grand Lux Cafe in the Venetian as I've read bad reports on the one in the Palazzo.

:really

What are the bad reports based on Luci? Service, food etc etc. I've done a search on another forum (no names) and it tends to get good reviews at both locations mainly.

It was on TA when the Palazzo had not long opened. I think the poor service was the main complaint, but that may have improved over time.

Cheers for that Luci. I was going to head to the Venetian one anyway, but some people have said on TA (you mentioned it, I might as well) that if there is a queue there just to walk to the Palazzo where it is often less busy.

How this for an offer from the Venetian? On selected dates you pay what the forecasted temperature is going to be. If the temperature is forecast to be 104 deg, you pay $104!

all english hotels would soon be out of business if they did that :rofl :rofl

the excalibur are doing rooms for 49 dollars a night during the week if you book on their website more than 30 days in advance.

i booked a week including weekends for about 550 bucks in total including taxes

I've also seen rates of $69 for excalibur widescreen rooms which is a good deal. However we're doing 6 nights at Orleans, 2 nights at Platinum, then we're prepared to splash out a little for something niceo for our other 5 nights (they're weeknights). Still got Flamingo Go Strip view booked at $115 but I'm sure we'll change it.

Obviously the hotels are a matter of taste as well as price. I think you'll find that most Vegas 'veterans' who have been a few times, wouldn't stay at Excalibur or Circus Circus out fo choice. These are the two hotels often offered by UK package deals. They are ok hotels, and normally fairly cheap, but there's a reason they are cheap and that's because they are not as nice as others on the strip. They are also what you'd call 'Family friendly' hotels meaning you get a lot more kids there, which to be honest, is a pain in the rear if you spend time around the pools! :sun2
As ever, there is something for everyone in Vegas and there are a lot of people that want a family orientated hotel so these are perfect if that's what is required.
The Imperial Palace is another hotel which is normally cheaper than the others - it doesn't have a swimming pool hence the cheaper price - I've stayed there and thought it was quite adequate, if you go in the late or early part of the year and aren't bothered about laying in the sun.

The IP does have a pool, but it's just a boring rectangle although there is plenty space to lie and sunbathe. I think you are gettting confused with Bill's which doesn't have a pool, but guests can use the one at the Flamingo.

sorry, you're are right of course Luci :whoops - the pool at IP is awful! If I remember rightly it's pretty much always in the shadow of the hotel - not nice.

Not so, you can sunbathe on the deck until abou 4-5pm if you pick the right spot.

I wasn't particularly suggesting staying at Excalibur, but I have to say that at $69 for the upgraded room it looks to me like a good deal. I'd still choose Orleans over it though, although maybe that's crazy. If someone only wants to spend $69 it becomes a valid option as it has the updgraded rooms, and it's a decent sized hotel. I've never heard fantastic reports on it though, and the buffet is supposedly poor. But....on a budget, it's probably not that bad. Of course there's so much else to choose from which just makes it so confusing!!! :que

Anyway, I'm still no further forward with getting a deal for 14-19th September yet. Still booked for Flamingo, could still get Palazzo for $219, Celebrity Spa at MGM for $139 and $149. Signature $159. The deals haven't got any better really in the last few weeks! Maybe this week more deals will come out!!! Or maybe after July 4th they'll look a bit further forward???
