All I can say from my point of view is we had a great time and re-booked whilst there to go back next May.
Some of the reviews that have been given lately makes it hard to believe it's the same hotel.
Me,hubby and 2 kids aged 7&9 went this May and we loved it. None of us were ill except my daughter who was sick on our last day, which I think was too much sun as she was fine the next day.
The food is fine, i am a really fussy eater and even I found things i liked.

All I can say is read up on the first timer's tips on tripadvisor, take Acidipholus tablets both adults & kids 2 weeks before you go and whilst you are there. We did and I really do believe they are worth taking. The snorkelling is fantastic.
If you are in a standard room block 5 is in a great location.
Just ask if you want to know anything else.

How easy is it to get a late check out room once your over there - going end of July for two weeks - any idea of the cost of one?

runmeg, I emailed them re the late checkout, I must say every question i have emailed them they reply very quickly the answer I got was 50 dollars till 5pm and 40 dollars till 3pm, didnt give any other currency options. I will be booking this as soon as we get there hopefully that will be in time, as booking it here is usually more expensive. Also we are having 2 interconnecting rooms and First Choice only gave me an option of keeping both rooms, when we get there I will just pay for 1 of the rooms after all the main reason for keeping it on is having a bathroom and a bedroom to get ready in before you go. We go on the 14th August (7 weeks 4 days Katiesmum) won't be changing the last place we went to in Egypt was slated really bad and we had a great time and it had no where near the facilities of the HV :sun2

We are flying home around 10.30pm via First Choice Airways on the Thursday night, anyone that went on a Thursday with First Choice can they tell me what time they were at the hotel till. If late checkout is till 5pm maximum I would just like to know how much after that we will be waiting to be picked up. Thanks in advance
ps what currency is everyone taking? With the HV replying to my question with dollars wondering if they are the best currency maybe a few British nuggets for tips!!! Last time we took Eygptian

Hi Louise-lancs, its getting closer.
I can only assume it will be 3 hours ish before flight time! hopefully someone can let us know who has just been. Thanks for info on keeping room $50 doesn`t seem too pricey, and at least the money is gong to the hotel and not FC.

I`m taking sterling (I have a little Egyptian from our last holiday) but will change a bit more at the airport when we arrive.

Hi Louise-lancs

We were on the 10.30pm flight to Manchester (delayed :( ) on a Thursday. We kept our room till 5pm (paid about £30 when I booked the holiday). I think people were paying about £25 to keep the room by booking there. We were picked up about 7.30 - 7.45pm from the hotel and your AI is included until you get on the bus.

Just another thing about keeping the room, if you want the bell boy to take your case to reception they tell you to leave it outside your door at 4pm. We were running a bit late with the packing so didn't bother but at 4.45pm there was a knock at the door. It was the bell boy come for our cases and a tip ;) , which was good because we were on the 3rd floor.

hi all, just recently been reading all your reviews there is 15 of us going out on the 10th of july.i did vow before booking this holiday i would never book with first choice again a few yrs back had a terrible holiday in bulgaria! but here i am again with a few bad reviews n being really worried about things, but have took a deep breath n am gonna go open minded! it was a bit reasuring when read wot the manager had to say.i would love to here off anyone with advice about things like wot best money to take, wot time is food till,is there mossies out there, the weather is it bareable, r the kids ok with the weather, ive read all about the tummy upsets n took yr information in plez help! thanx :)

Brando lady:We didn;t have an iron but I think you can hire one. I took a travel iron but didn't need to use it.

Waddys5: There were no mossies when I was there.I took all the repellants, plug in's etc but didn't need them. We also used the avon so soft showergel & body lotion that is meant to ward off the mossies.

As regards to money probably best to take english. You can change it at the hotel but most places seem to take english as well.

The breakfast opened at 6.30 - 10am and dinner was again 6.30-10pm. Lunchtime food was about 1pm by the main pool.

The weather was great very hot but it was a nice heat not unbearable like it is here.

The snorkelling is great just off the HV Jetty.

A bit of advice on the tummy probs, me, hubby and my 2 kids aged 7 & 9 took the tablets from Holland & Barrett for 2 weeks prior to going and whilst we were there. I will definately be doing the same next year. A certain person on another sharm forum doesn't seem to like me mentioning that for some reason, I think because they were all ill and they didn't take them.

Hi I am so shocked to read so many bad reviews about the HV ..

We came back on the 13th june after 2 wonderful weeks there..

I went with my 2 boys age 11 and 12 , none of us were ill , we jst used our common sense when choosing food , anything we didnt recognise we didnt eat..

We was in block 6 which was great, my kids thoroughly enjoed themselves with all the activities..archery,water walking, sea scooters zip wire and loads more..

Beach was great and we loved the swinging beds on there..

saving up like mad so we can go back next year,,

Oh my god, this has to be the worst holiday I have ever had. If you are thinking of going, be warned DONT or if you do go please empty your suitcase of clothes and take medical products for diarrhea and plenty of toilet paper, also book a doctors appointment for your return. On arrival we were told the restaurant was closed but the BBQ was still open. The BBQ consisted of everything that had been in the restaurant, sitting on the hot(ish) plates for hours brought out in buckets and dumped on the BBQ grill, this included salad. Upset stomach the next day = YES. The food did not improve throughout our stay and at one dinner time (what I think was) a health inspector in full white coat and wellingtons asked if he could "probe" the chicken that was on my plate - swift exit and taxi to the Hyatt for dinner. Whilst there a lady from Chelsea was rounding up people by the pool who had "tummy" problems. Within 20 - 30mins there was a group of 30+ people (The BAD Brigade) marching in a line to the reps office. The rep was under so much pressure he actually told me he was leaving the next day and his decision had been reached because of the complaints and because he had to eat the food there too. If you like your drink unrefrigerated and warm while tanning in 40 degree+ heat then this is the place for you. This is the place for you of you like to pay £3.20 for two Mars Bars and £3 for a can of coke. I visited the doctors whilst on holiday and after explaining what was wrong ("dicky belly" etc) was offered Viagra and "happy pills" for when I was better. I could go on and on about the state of the rooms, toilets and communal areas but they where dirty and unkempt. I bought the Daily Mirror while I was over there and lo and behold Holiday Village Red Sea Hotel voted the 2nd worst place in the world to go on holiday. I will be asking First Choice for my money back. 5 star hotel "my poorly bottom" more like 2 star and that is being generous. Please book somewhere else and do not bring your children anywhere near this hole.

Strange how the really bad reviews are from first time posters :que

Here we go again, some excellent reviews and another way out bad one, it is hard to believe people are talking about the same hotel, i am certainly not looking for a 5* hotel when i get there as HV is not classed as 5*, i will just be sensible about what i eat, Bbq,s are dodgy ground in this country in your neighbours back garden let alone when it is mass catering. i cannot understand though if the hotel is so dire, how come there is so many excellent reviews and so few poor ones :que

Was a little shocked to read this review - they have been really good over the last few days.

Why is everyone mentioning the article in the paper - this was the hotel in 2007 not this year.

As mentioned Hol Village is 4* and has never been advertised as a 5*.

Surely if it was that bad, them there would be 1000 holiday makers complaining as the complex must easily hold that many!!
