Hi, my son has just turned 5, and we are going to Goa again in Jan.
Every year i have always took his buggy, and i even took it this year as hes very hyperactive, so tends to fall asleep early in the evening (8pm).
We only use the buggy during the evening, and sometimes we do not use it at all.
It is nice to have some 'parent time' , and the only way we have this on holiday is when our son falls asleep in his buggy.
But, as my son will be 5 and a half years old, do you think it will look strange pushing a 5 year old around in a buggy?
I know im probably worrying over nothing
Nicola
No not at all, we did it till my s on was nearly six, although as he'd made friends with kids on holiday and we kept bumping into them, he soon asked for us to leave it in the room, we made a deal with him so he'd have a nap about 4 o'clock on a sunlounger which he adhered to. There are plenty other people who do this, so why not.
Thanks for your reply, its good to know its not only me who feels like doing this.
No problem, but i did feel a bit of a numpty pushing him round sometimes and he was heavy, surprised the buggy survived.
My daughter has just turned five (although looks a lot younger) and we are taking the buggy for her this year, - it comes in handy late evening whilst we are watching the entertainment and she will be tired, but not quite ready for bed.
Enjoy.
I agree, I think a lot of people use them for older children who woudn't normally use them at home. I've just bought a new 'holiday' buggy for my daughter who's 3 and intend to use it on our next few years holidays yet. So don't worry, as someone else said, it's your holiday too and you deserve a bit of 'you' time.
We are going to the caribbean and i find my self in the same situation, i have i 5 year old and a 14 month old, before the baby came and we went on holiday, we always took a buggy and he would sleep in the evening and we could have our time...etc !!
this time round however, we are taking a buggy for the little one, as he will need it for sure, and i have searched and searched for A buggy big enough for my 5 year old i just ordered 1 last night !!!
I just wanted to ask which buggies you all use for your older children ????
many many thanks
ps.....please dont think you look a fool with a big kid in a buggy.......us parents need to relax to....also its not fair on the child to be expected to walk around after been in the heat all day !!
Bea - when i went to Goa in Jan this year, my son was 4 and a half. I bought a stroller from argos which cost around 30pounds, im not quite sure what the age was, but i know its a nightmare trying to find a buggy thats big enough for their legs.
The mistake i made was buying a buggy that didnt have 2 positions, so most of the time as soon as he fell asleep in the buggy i took him out and let him sleep on 2 comfy chairs pushed together in whatever restaurant we were in.
We were lucky really, because the goans love children, and they'll do anything for them.
We were eating our meal at a beach shack, and it was getting a bit cold because we were sat right near the sea, and a waiter came out and gave us a blanket to put over our son.
we have just bought my gradaughter who is 4 a lovely buggy in argos cossatto 2 position with brolly 29.99 in th sale we will be using it in turkey next week especially after a night out on our way back to the appartment
Then when we took him to cuba at aged 3 i had a chicco reclinging one, however his poor legs will not fit on it now...(perfect for the baby though !!) lol..
So i read on this site about a babydan stockhom thats reduced from £99 to £38 apparantly is slightly bigger and has 5 recling positions and adjustable leg bit ! should get it tomorrow so hopefully its ok.
thanks for your replies....now all i gotta do is get through a 10 hour flight with a just walking pre toddler.....!!!
Hi. I originally bought a Chicco reclining stroller for my daughter which I was never really happy with (not sturdy enough) but have put up with it for 2 years, Have just bought her a lovely pink Cosatto Dixie reclining stroller from ebay. Thought it was a bit of a risk but I'm really pleased with it, only cost me £36 inc. P&P and came with hood and raincover. She's 3 1/2 now and seems much more comfortable in it than the Chicco, it seems a lot roomier for her and should suit her for a few more holidays to come.
We had a Maclaren Recliner, £85 it cost us when Tom was 1 year old and it lasted till he was nearly six, one of the wheels was a wee bit wobbly towards the end though.
Yes, Maclaren buggies are really good too. I had one for my son and then continued to use it for my daughter until it eventually started looking tatty and the wheels had very little rubber left on them! I'd have bought another but they are a bit pricey for what I wanted plus their cheapest one (around £50-£60) doesn't have a reclining seat which I think is essential. If you don't mind paying a bit more though I'd definately recommend one.
many many thanks, everyone my babydan stockholm should arrive soon so i will let you all no how big it is !
