Reagrding the long posts, sometimes the information is still relevant or it may be a fast moving topic like some of the hotels in Turkey.

I have a topic in the Cruise forum which is 270 pages long and has been running since 2005. This is actually the second topic of that length on the same subject as we had to remove the first one. I have no intention of pruning it back as there is information I know is there and I can find when needed using the Search facility.

If you think we have long topics, have a look HERE 4137 pages at the moment and growing by the minute!

Cor, fancy moderating that one, luci? :yikes
I've been a member for three years but posted less than 50 times, very unusual for me! Mostly cos I search for any information I need (I also can't stand lazy people asking the same question on forums) and also cos if there's something I can answer someone else has beaten me to it. :duh

Yeh, but that's a :swear site where you can have the same question posted in the same day by several members and they never transfer the posts into one running thread....there's more organisation in a jumble sale
I could see David the mod having the time of his life thinning that down and clearing out whats duplicated and irrelevant :rofl
On that page alone they have two threads made within minutes of each other asking the same question by the same member, so one of those would def go in the bin on this site ;-)

Hmm so maybe our overmoderating of duplicate posts and merging similar ones isn't such a bad thing. ;)

I think it's a wonderful thing Luci :rofl
However, for a newbie it may appear that the post has been deleted, if they are not aware that their post has been moved or don't know to look for it.
But, I personally would rather have this system than the one TA has, any day of the week...theirs pees me off big time.
Can you remember not that long ago, when a certain hotel in Benidorm had an outbreak of the Norwalk virus ...jaysus they had about a dozen threads running all at the same time and people posting the same thing in each of them......
It drove me nuts ...I can't be doing with that site, I look and post occasionally, occasionally being the operative word.

But, I wish someone would sort these blasted emotions out in here. ;)

Merging / moving is a useful tool to keep topics together and avoids numerous discussions on the same subject. I can understand how it may cause confusion for new members but it would be inpractical to advise each member personally when a topic has been moved/merged.

Topics where you as a member have posted in can be found easily through your User Control Panel.

Another note about TA - those dammed popups when visiting their site :banghead: Thankfully here at HT we're not subjected to that.

Unless the post is merged to an almost identical title within the forum, or there is a shadow left to follow,I do pm members 99% of the time. There is a lot more to modding than what you can see Sanji. :)
You can use the "view your posts" at the top right to find any lost posts as well.
For guest viewers, one useful feature you have when you have registered is that you can view new posts since your last visit.
You can also choose to get an email alert when there is a post added to a thread you are interested in.
Once you have made a few posts you will also be able to be able to contact other members by pm.
And finally
But, I wish someone would sort these blasted emotions out in here.

Things do sometimes get heated in here but we do our best as mods to calm things down :rofl

I never said or implied that there wasn't, I was just having a conversation and pointing out that although I prefer this system, some new members could be looking for their post and not realise it's been moved....if it was so obvious, then some of them would use the search facility in the first place....and yes, it is impractical to suggest every member is notified when their post has been moved and there's more than one mod in HT, modding forums that are busy/quiet....but I thought we were talking about the difference in systems....advantages/disadvantages...that's all :que

And whether you want to call them emotions, emocions or smileys, half of them don't work or you have to click on them about a dozen times, and it's frustrating........or if you're like me and have gone out and bought another mouse, then it's even more frustrating.....i just thought I'd mention that ;)
