We're not going to Los Cristianos - I've been told where we're going its near St Eugines in Torviscas area of Las Americas. Its been over 20 years since I was last in Tenerife so I'm looking forward to it. Do you think we'll be ok on Xmas Day if we don't book something? :D

We've been a couple of times to Tenerife over Christmas and New Year. I must admit we never bothered with Christmas lunch but there were plenty of places open. The resort isn't mad jam packed so I think you should be ok. Have a walk around on your first evening there and see what's available.

As the question says...and what are the chances of eating out on that day/night?

Should have no problem eating out and that day- was in las americas for xmas day two year ago and everywhere was open, doing standard food or xmas lunch - paid a bit more for the lunch than you normally would but also had option of normal stuff ( i went to jacket pot and tuna for xmas dinner!!!!) :)

Hi I live in Torviscas. I can assure you there will be plenty of restaurants open in the Torviscas / Fanabe area on Xmas day & evening. What kind of food are you looking for, English, Spanish, Indian, Chinese? Let me know and I'll point out the main offerings in the area and who will & won't be charging for "meal tickets"

You will find many of the non English restaurants quite empty on Xmas day evening as most of the hotels do special Xmas day 'gala' evening meals for their half board guests. However don't be fooled; boxing day its back to full capacity.

We usually go for a walk Xmas day evening around the area and find it soooo unusual to see Fanabe prom so quiet. Its lovely!

Id recommend something not typically English. They will make a fuss of you and wont ply you with tacky Xmas commercialised cak. The Spanish celebrate on Xmas eve, but they know we make more of a fuss about Xmas day. They will really appreciate your custom because most tourists make a B line for all the "Ye old Inn" style Brit bar restaurants for that "Xmas day atmosphere"! The Spanish restaurants will be festive enough, but in a more sophisticated & relaxing way!

Many of the local "English" establishments offer tickets for sale for their Xmas day evening meals and entertainment. We find the prices of these expensive and coupled with the fact these places open their doors to all at 9pm you may feel a bit ripped off, especially if your still eating your microwaved Xmas pud when us lot barge in for the entertainment FREE of charge!

So don't worry there will be plenty to choose from

Spanish recommendations in Torviscas / Fanabe? OK...

If you want to be pampered try the "Gran Reserva" in Fanabe next door to the Sunterra Royal Sunset Beach Club. For example no free wine here, its €11 a bottle for table wine, but then again their table wine is at least a 5 year old vintage, sometimes 7 years old! A meal for two wont be the cheapest but the service and quality will match their sophisticated ambiance. Emphasis is on attention to detail. A meal for 2 with a bottle of wine will cost between €30 & €45 - not each, but all in for both, with a *non microwaved* pud!

Or next door to the Gran Reserva is its sister restaurant "Caio Caio's". Same chef, same quality of food, more of a street cafe feel to it.

Try the Little Italy restaurant's (upper Fanabe prom) if you want a sea view. Not as high standard as the Reserva or Caio Caio's, but cheaper and good quality food. Service here is a bit cak where there busy.

Walk along to Del Duque (10 mins along sea front) for a selection of very swish Spanish eateries, some with stunning fairy lights and live entertainment playing to accompany your eating experience. Again not cheap but hay its Xmas!

There is tuns of Spanish "Steak houses" and Pizzeria's along the lower Fanabe prom that will be open. OK, plastic seating with pads on but your so close to the beach that the gentle sound of the waves will accompany your meal. The food is very reasonably priced, of more than acceptable standard & beer is as little as €1 a pint.

You could finish off with a Gin / whatever while sitting right on Fanabe beach in the beach bar, in a reclining chair, surrounded by the naked flame lanterns and fairy lights, listening to the bar's chill out music ON XMAS DAY NIGHT in 65 to 70 degree warmth. PERFECTO!!

Very nice indeed. what would you expect the weather to be like? and when does it get light and dark etc?

Well currently its peeing down, which is a bit of a suprise! But its still 77 degrees outside.

It gets dark at xmas at about 7pm,

this time of year it gets dark at about 8pm.

We don't have dusk, we only get daylight then suddenly it dark.
