Hi Tracy
Thanks for this, sounds fab love seafood and fish so will definitely make one or 2 trips.
I get eaten alive by any kind of insect so will have make the skin so soft and DEET stuff is sprayed everywhere those nights, or were mozzies not a problem?
Can't believe that some parents let their kids run around and put fingers into the food, no doubt they would be the people who have been complaining about cleanliness and hygeine! Will have our little one on a tight rein, but she hardly eats anything anyway, except fish fingers
5 and half weeks left and counting, got the summer clothes down, not that any fit of course, and am adicted to reading this and other forums re hotel just to make sure we've made right choice, not that can do much about it now even if we haven't, which from the sounds of things we have booked the right place.
How cute having lizards I bet you had loads of fun watching them, were you on the ground floor? What type of room did you have?
We've booked a select room but are hoping to upgrade to a junior suite or swim up room, have been in touch with Ramy at hotel and said ask him 3 days before we arrive.
Just one more question from the hubby, what's the local beer like? Not that either of us drink during the day, except water, but as you may guess we don't get out much with having a 3 year old and our holidays are total unwind and grown up time.
Lara
thanks to everyone for their advise, hints and tips along the way
we will be glad to get away from this rain
see you in 2 weeks
Have a fab time, am so jealous, I will be all wrinkly from the rain by the time we fly!!
I didn't see a single mozzie when I was there, and I am one of those who gets eaten alive between the plane and the luggage collection! I did get a couple of bites which seemed to be late at night when sitting on the balcony. They didn't really itch much though and were gone within a couple of days.
Hubby says the local beer is nice - it is bottled anyway.
We were in a room on the first floor - block 6, which is next to the main pool and just opposite the a la carte restaurants. We had a kids den, which had a smaller separate room with bunk beds for the kids. There is a PS2 which comes with the kids den - you have to collect these from the First Choice office and pay a refundable deposit of £20. Our room was plenty big enough. My Mum came with us and she had the room next door to ours - a standard room. Her bathroom was much bigger than ours and had just a shower (which could fit about 10 people in) whereas ours had a bath with a shower over (I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to sit in a bath in Egypt!). Mum's room also had much more storage for clothing - she had a separate walk-in cupboard whereas we had ours built into the 'hallway'.
One thing to watch is, if you want to leave your air conditioning on all day, you will need another key as it only works when the key is in. We were lucky in our room (6107) as the cut-off didn't work which meant that everything worked without the key. However, the cleaners (who do a fantastic job every day) do seem to switch off the air conditioning, so if you want it left on you need to nip back to your room after they have been and switch it back on.
If you need any supplies, you are much better to leave the hotel complex and walk into Sharm. There are plenty of places to choose from to do your shopping. If you leave the hotel and turn left there is a bank (CIB) with a cash machine inside just a couple of minutes' walk away. Just next door to this is a supermarket. We found that the prices here were about half those charged in the shops inside the hotel complex.
If you are going in the sea, particularly to snorkel, it is advisable to wear the pool shoes as there are several areas where the water is quite shallow but the coral is quite painful to walk over. I would also advise anyone to buy a waterproof camera (you can buy the reusable ones at the supermarket in Sharm for £8) to take photos of the fish as they really are fantastic.
I had seen quite a few negative comments about the airport in Sharm El Sheikh. It is quite unusual as, when you arrive for your return flight, you have to put EVERYTHING (yes, your suitcases as well) through an x-ray machine. You then proceed to check-in, where you are given another immigration card to complete before proceeding through passport control. We had no problems there at all, though.
If anyone thinks of anything else, just ask.
Enjoy!
Tracy
got over the stressed bit of packing and organising earlier..now enjoying a glass or 2 of wine....
Think we will have to just except the fact there will be no lie ins if we want a sunbed near the pool with umbrella!
I am going to have to bite my tongue if I see kids running riot in the restaurants! What is the best (quietist..ish) time to eat? we may even on the odd occasion just have pizza for lunch and snack in the evenings.
Glad you had a great anniversary and they treated you great! Hope they do the same for my nephews birthday..he will be 4 on the 26th..we got the balloons and pressies just hope they will have the cake!
Very glad to read you had a great time and you have reassured us..its just what you make of the holiday and I intend on making the best of it!
To everyone else going tomorrow..see you there!
Joanne
Have they changed the room numbers recently?
At least it wasn't just me noticing how the kids are allowed to do whatever they want in the resturant, some parents really do need to teach kids manners.
Whist we were there one English boy was always in the resturant on roller slates ( trainers with wheels on them ) - I couldn't believe that any parent allowed this.
We foudn the best time to go was about 9.30 each morning, for dinner about 1.45pm and for evening meal we went as late as 8.45pm as it seemed quieter at these times.
We got Antinal formt he Pharamacy, turn right outside the hotel and walk 100 yards to the Laguna Vista shopping center and he will sort you out, we got two packs, some toothpaste and a lypsol and it came to £4.
We drank the bottle larger, we didn't like it though in the Sports bar even though it was the same bottled larger - not sure why it seemed different but it was very flat and lifeless.
hi everyone, added a quick review as only arrived back at 2.36 this morning and finally home at 4.30 so havent slept yet, its not showing as yet. for all of you who are about to go, enjoy, have a super holiday and enjoy the weather.
1 thing to ask do HV have a washing machine room to wash your cloths
if anybody can let me know big help
shandygirlx
Hi Shandygirl, no they dont have a washing machine but they do have a laundry service which is payable per item.
First Choice rang the other day to say the flight time home on the the return ticket was wrong because of the time change while we're there. So the ticket says 5.30pm departure but it's a 4.30pm departure. I asked if we would be issued new tickets and she said, 'no the original tickets will be fine' WRONG
I thought I would ring FC myself just to find out straight from the horses mouth and it's a good job I did as we do need new tickets.
When she checked on her screen the date we were leaving she said, 'very unlikely you're going to get them in time now though.'
She then went on to say WE have to ring our booking office and arrange for them to get back in touch with the ticket issuing department to get new tickets sorted. It's a bank holiday weekend!!!!!
I'm absolutely fuming with FC to say the least. You would think they would automatically issue new tickets when this problem arose. Has anyone else been told their return time is wrong and have been issued new tickets?
It's my birthday today too and really didn't want a stressful day but looks like I'm going to get one whether I want it or not.
Emma
It will be fine, we go in 16 days time so it may happen to us also.
Keep smiling and have a good day
Kazee x
PS see you there
Not even opened any cards or pressies yet.
I could honestly cry.
Will the FC desk be open for when we get to the airport though. We'll be there at 6am?
Emma
Many happy returns!! Kazee is right, dont let this blip spoil your day. You will be able to collect your tickets at the airport, because, at the end of the day, the fault lies with FC, so its THEIR responsibility to sort the problem. It will become apparent to FC when they wake up, that there is not enough time for those tickets to get re-issued in time for your departure.. unless they do it, and then send them to your home address recorded or courier delivery, which i think is doubtful when FC are the most penny pinching holiday company known to man!! SO.. the only alternative is to re-issue them at the airport and have you collect them there...
And going on FC's history of fantastic customer support, can you honestly believe they will be open at 6am??? Blimey - you're getting there early arnt you??? They'll probably be open about 8.30am ish.. after their coffee and breakfast and gossip!!
oohh i am feeling rather pessimistic this morning! only because i know that when i get home from visiting my mum, they'll be the same message from FC waiting for me on my answering machine!! We'll have a big drink at the bar and laugh about this in a few weeks!!!
have a great day today!!
tash
We want to be at the airport early because we don't have pre booked seats so want to be at the front of the queue for checking in.
I thought everything was going too smoothly.
See you at the bar, I'll have a waiting for you.
Emma x
i really wouldnt get upset about soemthing like this.
I rang FC again and they said the tickets will be fine as the flight number is still the same and the time is only put on for our peace of mind.
Time to start the packing I think.
See you all out there.
Emma
Stemma glad you are more at ease now. FC desk will be open, just ring FC and let them know that you will be asking to be re-issued with new tickets at the airport. Explain that you wish to have your tickets with the correct departure times etc to avoid any confusion. It will be absolutely fine, we collected tickets when we went away in June this year, no problems at all.
Hi peeps
I think we have decided and want to go here next September. Have any couples stayed here and did they have a good time? We have been to HV in dom rep and going to HV in mexico next month so guessing they all may be similar if they are then im sure there will be a few things for adults. Also want to book a swim up room, are these recommended?
Thanks
