Hand luggage is not weighed but I would be careful about 100ml bottles as I thought it was only 50mls you were allowed.

100 ml bottles are Ok as long as they are in a 20cmx20cm transparent bag and don't exceed 1litre in total.

100 ml bottles,no more than 10,total 1 litre,in a clear plastic bag.

I know it is 10 x100ml bottles in a plastic bag.Although I cant get 10 in one bag I can use 2 bags as my husband is travelling with me. In June 2007 I didnt have the right sized bag for my eye drops(My bag was a fraction too small!)and I saw a bag with a couple of items in on the desk at the security.I just emptied them out and put my drops in.The security came after me informing me it was his sample bag! :rofl He then sent me off to WH Smiths to buy a bag! This was at Teeside airport.I have travelled twice from Newcastle and twice from Gatwick since and they have supplied bags although I havent needed them as I had 20kgs allowance!

Does anyone know if your hand luggage is weighed if travelling with Thomas Cook?I have been away twice this year with Thomson and they didnt weigh it.

Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. I think they do it on a random basis to check, especially if your bag looks like it's bulging.

Silly question do you get a invoice for the payment? Our 1st year 09 to Dalaman and we have 23kgs allowance from Thomsonfly ( my favourite) airline!!!!.Just incase we are asked to pay.

Haven't read through all this thread, so apologies if this has already been said. - If it's the airline making these charges at Dalaman, in my case First Choice/Thomson, then why do they not charge when flying out from a UK airport?
When checking in at Stansted to go on our holiday, the person in front of me, their case was over the limit, but just had a 'heavy' sticker put on it. Surely if they are going to charge for excess weight, then you must charge for both inbound and outbound flights?

We too were overweight on our return a week ago. We also challenged this. The check in staff wanted £75, they asked for cash Sterling (why can't you pay with either a debit/credit card if it's the UK airline making these charges)? We also challenged a couple of First Choice reps who were around the check in desks. They were next to useless, and seemed more confused than us regarding this, saying they can't do anything about it.

I'm inclined to agree with Intervoice. I don't think I have ever seen anyone at Gatwick, Luton or Stansted charged and I can't beleive that of the many times I have travelled everyone in front of me has been under or on their luggage allowance.

But more interestingly I haven't seen people charged at Faro, Malta, Reus, Charles De Gaulle, Chania, other Spanish airports etc. The only other place I have seen it is Sharm.

The argument that it is all Thomas Cook just doesn't hold water with me. Why do we not see this reported all over other country's travel boards, especially with the reduction from 20k to 15k ? Thomas Cook travels all over the world not just to Dalaman.

Also why cant people pay with credit or debit cards, it's not like Turkey isn't geared up to take these and the shops at Dalaman take them ? It seems suspicious that it always have to be cash. :que

The other argument is that they follow things to the letter is ridiculous. A country less full of 'jobsworths' I have yet to find.

Dont get me wrong I dont agree with people taking more than their allowance a it pushes up costs, but the practices at Dalaman are dubious to say the least.

I have found the staff at Dalaman airport to be different in their way of working to the workers you find in resorts and hotels. They take the airport business very seriously from checking in to duty free to security. I believe they are only doing what they have been instructed to do and the chap who is there to ensure that the excess fines are paid is in my opinion there to relieve the pressure on the check in staff when they frequently have people arguing about it. That is not to say that they are not profiting from it at that particular airport - it is a bit suss that they only accept cash, but then receipts are issued.

I mentioned above that I have felt dubious about the scales being properly set, however the lady in front of me had 19kg and was charged, she swore she was under the limit. My own bag weighed only 11.3kg so if it was over 4kg out of kilter then that would have made my bag weigh only 7.3kg which is a bit unlikely.

I haven't read through all the posts so I can only comment on our trip through Dalaman last year. We normally go to bodrum where I have never been chraged for overweight luggage even though sometime my bags were so heavy I could hardly lift them :yikes but I had heard that Dalaman were very strict. I know we were under the limit on the way out but I also knew that the cases were a lot heavier on the way back (no quite sure how our bags put on so much weight when we go to Turkey :que )

Anyway I was sure we were in for a hefty fine but no-one said anything. Maybe it was because we weren't with a package and came after all the package holday makers had already checked in, maybe because we had two young children or maybe because my husband was chatting in Turkish with the check in assistant, I don't know, Or maybe it was just our lucky day ;)

I would think you didnt get charged because you are Turkish and talking Turkish to them. Yoiu said yourself you were massively overweight. They see the Brits as soft targets. :(
I can just imagine what would happen in the UK if we tried to treat a Turk different to a Brit. All hell would break loose.

People wont like this statement, but I am just saying it how it is.

I'm not Turkish, just my husband but I think you are right. Things are a lot different in this country to Turkey though.

just got back from turkey flew from dalaman, we was aware of the high prices in the airport for food so we ordered some sandwiches from a cafe in hisaronu before we left, (there are many restaurants, bars, cafes that advertise sandwiches for the airport) and had a little picnic in the airport waiting for our flight!
i was worried that we would be over on the baggage allowance but needed had -we were just under (yippeee! first time ever!) even so we didnt see or hear of any one getting charged for being over (we were flying with onuair)

So it looks as if they are targeting the British (maybe other nationalities) tour operators/airlines then.
If that's the case, then that is wrong. Surely this has to be across the board, you can't have one rule for one, then one rule for another.
OR, maybe they are not so bothered as the season is coming to an end? Either way, consistency is important as people will know exactly how things stand as regards to luggage.
They either charge, or they don't, and not just when it's a certain airline, or when they feel like it.

Rant over ;)

Totally agree with Intervoice. Consistency is very important. Same rules should apply for everyone no matter what airport or where you come from.

If you have a look through this thread, you'll find loads of information on the subject of excess baggage charging. I totally agree, it should be consistant for everyone but the reason it isn't is because check-in staff work to the rules of the airline, the work instruction issued to them. Thomas Cooks is to charge for every kg over your limit. This is applied in the UK as well, although they'd normally allow an odd kg. OHY may not have issued the same working instruction to staff.
