I am flying to Dalaman with Thomas Cook on Thursday - my friend has the tickets and says they state 20kg luggage. We didn't pay for extra and I thought it would mean 15kg for the hold luggage and 5kg for the hand luggage. She will be delighted if it is 20kg for her case!!!! interesting to see if we get a meal (which we haven't paid for....)

On my ticket it state 20kg and 5kg hand luggage, see what your tickets state.

On your ticket it will state 20kg baggage this means 20kg hold and you will ALSO in addition have 5 kg hand. I was also unsure of this and I even asked on here too lol. So what I did was asked at check in and Thomas cook said that if it says 20kg on your allowance then you have 20kg and that your 5 kg hand luggage is never added to your hold allowance on your ticket to avoid confusion. Your ticket may say 5kg hold luggage on it, usually on the back, but the baggage is 20kg.Enjoy!

According to the thomas cook website ,the baggage allowance is 15kg hold and 5kg hand .You are only allowed 20kg hold if you pay an extra £8 per person per flight .We travel with thomas cook two three times a year since they have made this there weight allowance and have had to pay for the extra every time ,we have even questioned it and have been told there are no exceptions .Somebody is making a mistake here somewhere .

The travel company I booked with told me it was a 15kg allowance also but i wonder, If it is a mistake and 20kg is printed on your tickets, can anyone legally charge you excess?. I am going to wait and see what is on my tickets before i actually pay for extra weight..... just on case!! ;)

Interesting debate! We booked online, and it does definitely state 15kg hold and 5kg hand on the website. In the flight coupon booklet it states luggage allowance 20kg beside a picture of a case, and on the actual ticket it states 20kg and then 5kg hand. It wont affect me in the sense that my case is just under 15kg, but if I hadn't checked the website when my friend was making the booking, and just relied on what the tickets said, I would have assumed the hold luggage was 20kg.

I deliberately kept the weight low having followed the discussion on excess weight charges at Dalaman. We'll see soon enough - flight at 3.15pm today! Thanks everyone.

Theres no mistake, if your ticket says 20kg thats what it is....20kg plus your hand luggage ! hand luggage is never included in your allowance on your flight coupon. There are people who have posted on here who state that their coupon actually says 15kg so if it says 20 thats what it is. We travelled with Thomas Cook earlier this year to Dalaman and our tickets stated 20kg and I queried this and it turned out that was our allowance with 5kg hand luggage on top of that ! We've already booked for next year and , obviously, I only have the booking invoice to go off, but once again it clearly states 20kg luggage per person and in flight meals including 2 child meals which we didnt pay extra for.

Yes but the question is did you pay for the extra to take it from 15kg to 20kg.if not then there are people who are being chraged and peole who are not and that is where the mistake comes in .We are not talking about the hand luggage which we know is 5kg.

every body is saying they booked their holiday thinking it was 15kilo weight allowance didnt pay any extras and still got 20 kilo and free meal on the plane, it looks like the ones who pay the extra are the ones that are making the mistake.it could be that thomas cook are using onur air paned which are 20 kl as standard but they dont do food on there.

I certainly did not ask for nor pay for extra baggage or meals but got them all the same.

Brilliant for all the people who did not pay for extra weight and in flight meals, but I do think it is very unfair of Thomas Cook to charge for these extras if not everyone is being charged , as a mother of a travel agent I for one will be finding out about this for the future.

Could we please have a list of names and addresses of all these people who got these things for nothing. :rofl :rofl :tongue

we went on holiday with Thomas cook this year. when booking the lady at the travel agency (Going Places) didn't actually ask us if we wanted the extra weight allowance and meals, but just automatically put it on. it was only when i happened to look through the invoice some time later that i discovered this. perhaps it's just common place to add it on unless particularly asked not to by the customer. as i said earlier we weren't asked, however i would have taken it if asked.....flippin 'eck how on earth do people manage with only 15kgs?
it also stated on our invoice that the extra 5kgs could only be purchased at time of booking.
sure i've not said anything that hasn't been said before but thought i'd give my opinion anyway.

happy holidays

Hi nuttynet

I have received ticket for 20kg baggage allowance and did not take out the extra allowance of 5kg at time of booking, phoned Thomas cook last week to add the extra allowance and because our tickets had been despatched were unable to add but ticket state 20kg but we did add meals at a cost of £26.00 for two persons. We are flying with Thomas Cook Airline not Onur Air. On the ticket it states that no in flight meals are added, we are waiting for an invoice to arrive in the post to confirm that we have paid for 2 in flight meals. Hope this arrives in time as we fly on the 15th September.

Can we keep on topic please, ie about Dalaman airport?

Returned from Dalaman on Friday/Saturday and they were being hot on with excess luggage (flying with Thomas Cook).

It appears that some leniency had been used when checking in in the UK. A friend of mine was allowed to combine her excess with others travelling with her but was not allowed on the way back (as they all booked their flights separately). She had to pay £48 for 6 kilos over. This was flying to Gatwick.

The woman in front of me (flying to Manchester) seemed a little worried as she witnessed others being charged but said she was okay coming out so must be okay returning (due to having used up toiletries etc.). She was 4 kilos overweight and was charged accordingly but argued she hadn't any money and her visa card did not have a PIN. They insisted they somehow find some money and kept pointing her/her husband to the cash point nearby. I presume they sorted it eventually but they had them stand to one side so they could process others. I wondered whether their scales might be out but as mine only weighed 11.3kg there is no way they could have been.

So be careful folks and make sure you really are not overweight as you might be lucky in the UK checking in but probably won't be in Turkey.

If your case is over then you should be prepared to pay the extra. I don't see the big deal in this. :que
Dalaman are charging people who have gone over their allocated luggage allowance which is fair. There are luggage allowances for a reason and people who go over should have to pay for it.
