The problem with some private transfers is that the operator may not be licensed or insured to carry out transfers.

If in doubt, ask to be e-mailed a copy of their Tarjeta de Transporte which forms part of the licence that people need in order to be licenced to carry fare paying passengers. Legitimate companies will be happy to do this. Licenced companies have to display this licence in the window and also have to have an SP plate on the front and back of the vehicle.
Please note that the police and Guardia Civil are cracking down heavily on this, and there are frequent roadblocks. If you are in an illegal vehicle you will be left by the side of the road. There is also talk of the police fining the passengers €1000 each, for knowingly using an illegal taxi, even if you were unaware of this at the time.
I've always done package holidays before where you see the rep at the airport and they direct you to the right coach for the transfer.
This time we've booked through ulookubook and just have a voucher for the transfer.
will the driver be stood with a board with our name on or something?
how will we know him/her?
and how do we know if they're legal?
thank you in advance
Whats the name of the transfer company and I will try and give you some pointers.
think your right and so looks like i'll be booking with travelrepublic to be on the safe side.
There are other transfer companies mentioned earlier in this topic such as Resort Hoppa and Shuttle Direct. It may be worth pricing them online as well as Travel Republic.
the name of the shuttle company isn't mentioned on the voucher but the ref number starts with tvt if that's any help
We caught a private bus (not booked) on the day we arrived which was last Friday 17th Oct. Number 23 bus which is on the right as you come out of the airport. Cost us 15 euros each.
what is the waiting time if we book a shuttle transfer as to getting a private taxi
You might be lucky but sometimes they will wait for other flights to come in so you have to sit on the bus for a while.

We booked on a shuttle bus through travel republic, cost £50 return for 4 of us, and we had to wait about 10 minutes for the bus, which took only four families and we were the first drop off.
Best Regards

Can anyone tell me whether it is possible to get a bus / shared transfer from alicante airport to Altea.
Ive tried Shuttle Direct & Resorthoppa and the best price is £145 (for 4 people) for private transfer.
Compared to <£60 if we were going to Benidorm, this seens rather steep, but only because they offer shared transfers to Beni, but not to Altea. Plus, I can hire a car for with carjet the fortnight for £190 and whilst Im not madly enthusiastic about driving to & from the airport, it would make more sence to do that
Alternatively, what would a taxi cost from beni to Altea and where would the best place be to be dropped off if we just got the shared transfer as far as Beni?
Thanks
If it was me then I'd ask to be dropped off at the Flamingo Oasis, as it won't cost as much in a taxi from there as it would if you were dropped off in central Benidorm.

I think it is only just fair that I praise them on the great service we received, we arrived at 11:45pm last sunday and the coach was there waiting for us, We called them on the saturday just gone to confirm our time of pick up, the call was answered straight away and the coach arrived on the dot.
I would use them again in the future without a doubt.
Well done Resorthoppa
I have just booked flights today (first time going DIY) and are going to use Shuttle Direct for transfers as I have booked them before for my Mother for a last minute trip she booked. My question is as the fllights are not till July should I book the transfers now or wait till nearer the date. Thanks
I personally would leave it for another while. Flight schedules for next July may be subject to alteration and if that happens, you would need to alter your transfer booking accordingly and perhaps incur an amendment fee.
