Hi Goaliesmum - The name of the road for Soumyen's is Luis Marino Gomes Road - it's little more than a track, though.

As you head towards Candolim from Calangute, pass Daytripper and look for a "Barista" cafe further down on your right before the road kinks where they are building a new part of the Jambleshwar temple.

Just after Barista and before the kink in the road, you turn left . There's a sign at the top and he employs a young lad with a lamp to guide people down the road.

So if you see someone with a lamp opposite Barista, it's either Florence Nightingale going to a fancy dress or you've found Soumyen's! It's worth seeking out!

Samtheboater and his OH and my mate and myself ate there in Feb when they had a powercut and cooked by lamplight. Was still the best meal I had! :rofl

Well I was very disappointed when I had a meal a couple of weeks ago, service was poor and so was the meal (I've known Ram for quite a few years and hopefully this was a one off!).

Hi I posted this restaurant in the monsoon but feel it needs another airing so to speak "The Travelbar" in calangute opposite tarcar ice factory just before the big banyan tree/temple going towards candolim
we went there on new years eve and had a really brilliant meal, (the chef used to work at sublime in Anjuna)
all different types of foods, starters tempura prawns, mozzerella wrapped in aubergines, salads to die for, fish, chicken and beef dishes, beef wrapped in blue cheese on a bed of mash potatoes and galzied carrots yum yum and puddings fried bananas with a ball of ice cream wrapped in cornflakes and deep fried, chocolate cake with strawberry sauce,
reasonable prices and quite a romantic setting in the evening, nice salads and baugettes at lunch time.
well worth a go
Angelina and renny make you feel very welcome indeed.

I like the sound of this place Poppetjay and hope to give it a try in March/April time. The menu seems extensive and yummy! And if its the Chef from Sublime then it must be great. How is it price wise?

Hi Gemma its a little bit pricer than your average place starters around 150 and main courses from 230 upwards but its more al la carte menu and very different i feel, they have a choice of veg food aswell, its very nicely done out with wooden tables and benchs (no Plastic) just cosy and nice.
drinks prices are average 3 adults and 3 kids new years eve, there is no kids menu but the chef does them a special pasta and chicken dish and fish fingers kids loved it. bill came to 2,400 with drinks/puddings and 4 starters and meals.

Just got back last night, once again ate some really lovely food. Souymens as ever excellent, getting rather busy now so best to book your table before arriving. Lovely meals at I95 and After Seven, didn't manage to get to POSH but will definately give that a try next time we go.

We spend our days in Mandrem and find the food at Sea Paradise very good value for money and love their chickent kebabs, plus the boys are great.

Disappointing for us this year was O'Pescador, lobster price has doubled since March, portion sizes down considerably, this restaurant was always a good one as a back up but after one meal we didn't go back again. East Meets West, we should have turned away when we walked down the entrance, the smell of rotten fish was unbelieveable and kept wafting across the restaurant during the meal.

For a great breakfast try Orangeboom on the way to Anjuna market, lovely fresh food.

Had a couple of good chinese meals at Hibiscus, in our opinion this is much better than Kim Faa.

We tried Soumyens for the first time, wetn for the special Christmas Eve menu. The meal was very good but we do prefer After 7, much nicer setting. We were also a bit put off because quite a few of the taxi drivers told us they were being paid by Soumyens to take customers there instead of After 7 - not really fair play, they should rely on their good reputation for food. We agree with you Miccie about O'Pescador. this used to be one of our favourite restaurants and have also gone at least once but this year we were very disappointed with the meal. We also tried Hibiscus as this had been recommended to us for Chinese food but didn't find it as good as the Chinese opposite O'Pescador so will go back there instead next time. We did visit Posh on our last night and loved it here. The food was fantastic and a very different menu to other places, lovely if you have something to celebrate, nice and romantic. Unfortunatel I don't fancy my sister much as I lover her! The staff and service were amazing and they showed us around the house and told us all its history. We were most impressed. I have to admit though we were the only people in there which was a shame for them. But as Liz said Posh and Becks would pay a fortune to have a restuarant like this to themselves.

On the occasions that I have gone to NISHA on Titos road, I found the food excellent, service friendly and the Goan owner Nisha would always come over and say hello. I hope they are still there this year and as good as ever.
Unfortunately last time we went it was a little late at 22:30 so the best steaks had gone. We had the most exquisite Chateaubriand there one time. Next time we got it will be 7-8ish to get the steak , or reserve in advance. Instead I had a Goan Fish platter which was enough for 2 and was very delicious. We also had a sort of med veg fry on the grill for a veg alternative.

Please others comment on the good experience had at Nisha.

We were very impressed with the meal we had at the Carvery, the fish was beautiful. We did have to wait a while but it was extremely busy and as it was a meet up night we knew we were in for the long haul so were in no rush. It was one of the few places we went to though that realised they are supposed to bring the G&T before the meal and the bottle of wine. Everywhere we went, with the exception of After 7, Posh, East Meets West and Casa Portugese, they brought the G&T with the meal and the bottle of wine. They couldn't seem to understand we wanted the G&T while we read through the menu and waited for our meal. They always looked at us as though we were made asking for G&T AND wine. Never mind, it is Goa!
