We're off to Candolim for four weeks tomorrow and I've just had a great half hour reading this thread from the beginning. Got plenty of "leads" to follow up so thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences.
It really does make a big difference to have some restaurants to aim for rather than try pot luck. Promise to write up my experiences when we're back!

Have just returned from an evening in the above restuarant with friends, one of whom was celebrating her birthday. Two of us arrived first and found the place to be in a lovely setting and when we told the restaurant owner that we were awaiting our friend who's birthday it was she asked us if we would like her to arrange for a cake. Having looked at the prices (expensive by Goa standards) we asked "how much" and she explained that it was an individual cake and would be complimentary. What a good start! Unfortunately it went rapidly down hill from there on! When we were all assembled and sat at our table with very attentive waiting staff (who could not be faulted), we waited for our meals. The starters came and were fine, then the disaster of main courses appeared! One filet mignon (no-one asked how it should be cooked) arrived and was difficult to cut even with a steak knife. beef wellington was stringy and inedible, tornadoes were also tough - basically out of six meals one was fine. we very quietly explained about the filet mignon and were told that if they took it away then another one would be just the same - sorry don't comprehend this?! Anyway suffice to say we were not happy people! When we left i mentioned to the owner that we had not received the complimentary cake for our friend and was told "well no doubt you would have complained about that"!!! The rst of our party left slightly after us and were told that we had been so "sarcastic" about their food that we needn't come back!!!!

So people I leave it to you, but my recommendation would be never to go there - I certainly won't!!

Obviously they have not heard about the internet.Off our list now

I went to I-95 for the first time this year and can only say it was one of the best meals we had and yes a little on the expensive side against the normal goan prices but the setting and service we got was exceptional, sorry Flossytindrawers to hear you had a bad experience...jxk8

Only ate there once and thought the food average but they dress it up to be "fine dining". Very pricey for what it is so we never went back.

I never quite understand the attitude of some restaurant owners. You would expect, given the reports of a poor season and fewer customers, that they would fall over backwards to please the few they get and to put right those things that are wrong Ie make sure they ask the customer how they like their steak cooked. I haven't been to I-95 as yet but when eating anywhere else I have always been asked "how do you like your steak, madam"?

To then discuss you with your remaining friends after you had left and in such a manner was very rude, as for sarcasm, it seems to me that their comments were far worse. A lesson is customer service (and good manners)required here it would seem.

Such a shame that a nice setting (as previously reported) is spoiled by bad management.

Been to I-95 once and had a very nice meal. No complaints whatsoever. However, its not in the same league as Soumyens Kitchen or After 7, but we were charged about the same price!
Sorry to hear you and your friends had such a bad experience.

We went when it was my birthday Nov 07 and they made me a cake , all was brilliant- also went to Souymen's kitchen -fabulous and in Jan 07 went to After 7 - never again, I suppose anybody can have an off night but you just don't go back.

We had a similar experience in I-95 where we were to told 'get out and never come back' by the manager. We had booked a table for 6 people (3 couples) as one of the party was flying back to England the following day. We arrived at the restaurent and were shown to our table. When the waiter came to take our drinks order we asked if we could have 3 separate bills (a reasonable request we thought!) The waiter said this was not possible and went to fetch the manager - he arrived at the table with an attitude and said 'whats the problem?' We explained that we didn't have a problem and explained that as we were 3 couples we would like 3 separate bills but he said he could only issue one bill. I then said that myself and my partner would go over and sit at a separate table but he wouldn't let us do this. He said as a favour he could split the bill with 3 meals on one bill and 3 meals on another. His attitude more or less said to us 'if you dont like it leave' - so we did. We stood up to leave the table and on the way out he said - 'get out and never come back.' We have been to Goa 9 times and never have we come across customer service as bad as this.

I do truly find this astonishing.What a way to run a business.

How peculiar. Yet they wouldn't have had problems with three couples arriving around about the same time and sitting at different tables. So what difference would it have made therefore to have three separate bills?

Do they have trouble in catering for parties?

The logic of some people astound me at times.

We always go to Goa as a party of 4 or 6,and wherever we eat we always ask for seperate bills(per couple)and have never had a problem. If we were told the restaurant couldn't do seperate bills we would leave and find somewere more obliging. Paula

Sounds very much like a restaurant with ideas above it's station. I've often passed it and looked in wonder at the prices they have the cheek to ask, still if people are prepared to pay that sort of money when in Goa, who can blame them. I've kept my eyes open on my travels about Goa and further afield, but hav'nt seen too many prime beef cattle in the fields. I've often wondered just what people are actually eating in the pricier eateries, that seem to draw their customers mostly from people that are looking for fillet steak and the like, it's certainly not Aberdeen Angus that's for sure. I have to admit to feeling the same Alan re high price restaurants in Goa. But they get the custom

What is amazing about these reports is they seem to think there is a lack of choice for people.Calangute is full of restaurants and increasingly there are more upmarket ones to choose from.

In any buisness the customer is king.It is a basic rule.Hard to believe any restaurant in the current climate would not go out of their way to accomodate paying punters.

Best service we have in Goa is Floyds hut.Not saying others are not good but they go out of their way to make sure you are happy.Could that be one of the reasons it is full every night?
