Waves in Holiday St Calangute. European menu, more upmarket than most with very nice relaxed setting away from the road. Prices a little more expensive than the norm but less than places like After7. Great for a special night.
need directions to posh please, coming from calangute
Just got back last Friday and here are some of the restaurants i visited....... Soumyens Kitchen, Floyds, Bistro, Mollys,Carvery, Casa seashell,Tulips, Alexandras and Inferno. Cant remember what i ate where but i have no complaints about any of them. Floyds and alexandras maybe just shading favouritism
Posh is reached by going through Candolim and turning off to the left on the road to Panjim. Go over Nerul bridge and go into Nerul. The restaurant is there on the way to coco beach. It is only a couple of miles.
Tiger Trial - Down the lane beside Newtons, I loved the butter chicken here but other half wasnt too fussed on his.
Scar Face - Same Side of road as Newtons more or less over the road from Brunos shop - Menu a bit different - Beef Xacuti was first class, Steaks were nice and the loaded potato skin starter was quite a change too.
Cato Lobo - Over the road from Newtons a little further down - I had the chicken corden bleu here which was good, other half tried the turkish mezes which were nice but not really enough for a main course ( for him) this place is worth visiting though just to check out the toilets best ones Ive seen in Goa.
Big Daddys - Turn Right just as you approach Just Chinese and follow the road down, weve passed this place for years and never gave it a second glance but on the way to the beach I noticed they were doing Greek Salad and just had a yearning for it. Ordered the Salads as a starter bit of a mistake as they were very large and one would have done both of us. I had Enchiladas for main course which were good and other half had a pasta dish which was presented and tasted very nice. Prices very good too.
Just Chinese- we were recommended this place, spare ribs were really good but the rest of the meal was just your average chinese nothing special.
Rising Waves- near to snow white laundry - Loved it here and the presentation of the food was good. Fillet of King Fish in Garlic and Lime Sauce was raved over by other half, Beef Medallions in Mushroom Sauce was excellent too.
Rest of the time back to old favourites, Carvery for Beef Vindaloo which is always very good, Green Jacket - Chicken Sesame Toasts yummy and Butter Chicken, Alexanders mainly cos our friends ate there a lot but a lot of choice on the menu and the Spicy Chicken with Honey is rather nice also we love the Kulfi for desert and not many places seem to have it on. The Fishermans Cove ( the one opposite the football ground) as this was our local!! Food the same as the other other Fishermans and never had a bad meal there yet.
During the day we mainly ate at our usual shack were the food is always been good but really noticed the prices there were well over the top but because weve used them for the last 10 years we felt obliged to keep going but next year am going to make the break as it seems we were paying nearly double to what other shacks were charging, that aside though the Prawn Curry and Rice at the shack has to rate as one of my fav meals.
have to ask which shack......?
I have to say that during our last week were "curried out" I was yearning for a roast dinner. Someone told us about The Hungry Horse. Walk past Molly Malones with Molly Malones on your left and it's a bit further down on the same side. Absolutely lovely meal and not expensive. It's owned by Rav and Louise, The roast beef dinner and cottage pie are really good but make sure you're hungry when you go there I couldn't eat it all.
Dave's wife I cant believe thats you back already!!!!!
just for the newbies that would be the new newtons,in candolim not the original newtons in calangute by st anthony,s ?
Candolim Lover the Shack was Antonios - great shack boys and good food but the prices were mad. Egg Sarnie at breakfast 75rups Prawn Curry 180 rups, fresh orange juice 100 rups, large fosters 95 rup - free sunbeds though
Palolem - Magic Italy - great pasta and best pizza we had in India.
Arambol - Rice Bowl, get to the beach and turn right, try the sesame prawn toast and momos. Also good noodles.
Greek Souvlaki - amazing kebabs
Calangute - Tibetan Kitchen - fab momos
Panjim - Delhi Darbar - you MUST try their fish tikka starter, if I was on death row this dish, from this restaurant, would be on my last meal request as a starter (o/h also agrees).
Arpora - All Spice - ate here twice and both times we had excellent food, the beef meatball curry was divine as was the chicken patiala.
Candolim - Soumyens - o/h swears the blue cheese sauce on the steak is the best he has ever had.
Flambee - ate here twice, the Akbari Chicken kebab is a must.
Stonehouse - as good as ever espec beef masala and even fast service for once.
Carvery - ate here several times before the meets, didn't have english/european food but the goan and indian food was always good.
Fishermans Cove (the one near the football pitch) - good chicken dishes (ironically) espec the butter chicken.
Angaara - on beach road opposite side to inferno, had excellent red snapper in here.
Inferno - was as packed as ever and we enjoyed our food.
In Candolim we also ate at Viva Goa, Floyds (the original one), Alexandra's on beach road, Mermaid (and probably several others I have forgotten) all were good but the above particularly stood out.
We use Splash shack on the beach in the day time (in between Bono's and Sams Paradise) and always ate lunch in there. As ever great food.
Cheers
Sian
i have read every posting here and have made loads of notes, can anyone suggest a restaurant that has a setting as nice as east meets west (thought the food here was very average).also last year we had our most enjoyable night at the mayana bar,it was asunday evening and the bands were amazing,is it still there?it`s on the same road as the MD,thanks
Would have to agree. We had a distinctly average meal in East meets West but the setting cannot be beaten.Maybe it is just too big.
Debs
Might try it myself as we stay at the Marinha Dourada and its close by for us. Only thing is I might bump into Chilly and she might force me into drinking too many coffees
thanks for the replies, paul, where is over the flames,we will give it a go.and yes gemma that is the bar iwas on about,by far the best i`ve been to anywhere, need to get there early as it gets packed,i was amazed at the quality of entertainment, and the food wasn`t bad either,
Ive heard it gets very busy Debs. How early do you think we would need to go?
Over the flames is on the Calangute to Candolim road just past daytripper on the same side. Run by a lovelly Welsh lady called Dawn.
The only downside was we asked for Disarono after dinner, and the owner said she had some but it would cost little more as it was imported fine we said - those two drinks came to the cost of almost half the bill!!!!!
