Your flight from Manchester to Heathow is a code share as both airlines are part of the Star Allience network. Because you're travelleing down to London on a domestic flight, you'll have to abide by those luggage allowances and anything in excess of them will be liabe to relevant baggage charges. Excess baggage charges are applied and calculated on an individual route sector basis, ie you'll have to pay excess from MAN-LHR at Bmi rates, then onwards at AC's rates. The airport wouldn't be able to advise on baggage policy for the airlines, you need to speak to your ticketing agent or the airlines direct.

( but thanks for the reply) Last ime I went with BMI to winnipeg it was the same hold allowances but it was an international manchester to chicago flight so possibly different allowances for manchester to london. I'm going for 6 months and will be moving there permamnently next year when my visa comes through- I thought this was a good chance to ship some belongings over cheaply

We have flown ABZ-MAN then MAN-LAS with bmi on both routes. Although the baggage allowance was only one bag at 20kgs on the domestic route, as it was a through ticket we were allowed the transatlantic allowance of 2 bags per person at 23kgs each.

We have a fly/cruise booked and the flights are with BA. a BA flight from manchester to Heathrow and a BA flight from Heathrow to Miami. I understand from reading BA`s checked baggage pages on their website that we are allowed one checked bag up to 23 kg on the Manchester flight and two on the Heathrow flight but that I can pay £25 for the extra bag on the domestic flight. Is this correct? I want to make sure I am reading it correctly. It also states that if I pay online the charge is reduced to £20 but to do this I have to have a BA booking number. The problem is I don`t have a BA booking number as the flights have been booked by the cruise line (Holland America). I am quite happy to pay the £25 for the luxury of an extra suitcase. It also states that the excess baggage charge should be paid before I check-in. If I don`t pay online where do I pay?

All very complicated this baggage thing isn't it!! I had a similar problem when flying with Air France (Air Mauritius) the other year. Because the flights were booked through an agent as part of a package, they were on a discount code so I couldn't book the extra allowance on the MAN-CDG sectors and therefore couldn't take advantage of the full allowance on the CDG-MRU sectors. I'd check to see if this is the case with your flights as some discount coded flights won't allow you to do it. Because your flights are booked through a third party and you don't have a BA booking reference, you might have to call BA direct and arrange things over the phone (that's what I had to do with Air France as they didn't issue a ticket / booking reference). When you call, have your flight details to hand and I'm sure they'll sort you out.

Great news! I just rang BA and was told that because both flights were booked together we are allowed two bags each on both flights. I think that means I have a bit more shopping to do!

Does anyone please know if you can put your luggage allowance together with Thomas Cook, we have 20kg each for 3 and I want to take 2 cases if possible. It says in their brochure max case weight 30KG. Last year with FC we had to take 3 small cases as their max is 23kg.

As I See It You Can Combine The Luggage As Long As None Of The Cases Exceed The 30kg Makimum Limit (The Actual Max Limit For Lifting Is 32kg)

Thanks I thought might be able to but the brochure sometimes confuse!! makes life so easy taking 2 cases instead of 3.

Thomas Cook alow the pooling of luggage as long as each passenger is under the same booking reference and no case weights over 30kg. FCA/TOM have a different luggage policy that doesn't allow pooling. Refer to the Thomas Cook thread for more details.

I'm currently looking at flight only for Feb/Mar 2010, flying multi city Manchester - Mumbai - Delhi - Manchester.
with one flight company outgoing allowance is 30kg but return is only 20kg, is this normal??

It's not abnormal, but I'd check the reason for the lower luggage allowance on the return journey. It's probably because you are starting on a domestic / short flight with them which has a lower allowance than international flights, as per your outbound flight (you're presumably flying with PIA?). I would check their luggage conditions; they may honor the higher allowance because you're connecting to an international flight.

Thanks Darren, the flight I'm looking at is schedule with Emirates for all journeys.

I have e-mailed Emirates and yes it is 30kg Mancheter to Mumbai and only 20kg Delhi to Manchester - unless I pay excess baggage to bring it up to the 30kg for return journey - I don't think so. Shame because flight times and service etc would be perfect for me, and it's on the return that I will need the larger allowance. AAh well, will start looking at other airlines. Does anyone know of one with a generous allowance?? - I don't do travelling light especially coming home!!

Does anyone know if there ia a particular airline that gives you a better luggage allowance on an economy ticket or are they all pretty much the same?I will be flying to Mumbai from Manchester and returning from Delhi.

I just booked Etihad to Bangkok and got 30kg in economy. Don't know if they would do the same on their Indian routes
